del Lago Golf Club
About
del Lago Golf Club sits at an elevation of 3,400 feet, enjoying a temperature that is five degrees cooler than Tucson in the summer, which makes a big difference under the hot Arizona sun. Winding through the hills and valleys of the high desert, the golf course features over 120 feet of elevation changes that present tricky uneven lies. The dramatic undulations also offer beautiful views of the Rincon and Santa Catalinas Mountain ranges. Golfers start at the highest point on the course and then play down into the valley before getting to the back nine, which plays along the Pantano Wash. The first hole is the only forced carry on the course, the remaining holes are friendlier off the tees. Seven lakes dot the golf course, coming into play on six holes, and there is also heavy bunkering around the greens.

Greens improving
Overall, this has been a very good layout with above average greens. The greens took a hit from poor watering last spring, and then again with the recent monsoon. I have played four times in past month, and the hreens are finally starting to come back. Definitely worth the fee.
summer play
I would say that the course was average for the summer, tho in this case, due to water problems at the course in June, the greens were in poor shape. It was about the worst that I have seen at Del Lago in my years of play there.
However, it was better than a month ago, and a little better than 2 weeks ago.
Greens in terrible shape
Have played here many times over the years-the greens are in absolutely terrible shape. Will not be playing here again
What happenned guys?
I have played this course a few times and wanted to see what I could do as my skills are improving. The biggest gripe I have from my round is that the greens are in terrible shape. The parts that actually have grass on them were slow and bumpy. The two putt rule would have a good plan had I thought of it at the time. The staff was really nice so that was a bright spot in the day.
What Happened To This Course?
I have played almost every golf course within 90 minutes north and south of Oro Valley over the past 18 months. This was my first time back to del Lago this summer. Not to be mean, but this course should have been closed. Last summer and the year before, these were some of the most beautiful, quick, smooth greens you would always hope to putt on. The greens are now gone. They have been replaced with just a few patches of bumpy grass and mostly barren stubble. The sad part wasn't so much paying $20 to play it nor the travel time of an hour and 15 minutes to get there, as it was the complete waste of an afternoon to play what was once a scenic plush course that has totally deteriorated. I am still in shock over the sad condition, and very disappointed with the time I wasted considering all the other courses I drove past just to get there. In my opinion, there is no excuse as we've had above average rainfall this summer.
Greens
Greene's are in terrible shape very long and very burned lots of bare spots
Terrible Greens
Overall I had a good day at the course for mid summer in The Tucson area. The greens were in horrific condition. I understand that this was due to recent monsoon weather, but some kind of warning would have been nice. I've played this course maybe 50 times before and I've never seen the greens this bad. I thought I had a good deal for $28 apiece, but not so much after seeing the conditions.
challenging but fair
fairways recently "punched" , but that's "par for the course"( pun intended) for this time of the year. Shows good maintenance. Greens very good -true and fast- and well maintained. To make this course even better I suggest placing readily visible tee markers at the different tees (gold, silver, green... can George wield a mean can of spray paint?). Also, please trim some of the bushes along the cart paths- for the sake of careless player safety. The thorns will not forgive carelessness! The staff, from shop to bar, are friendly and doing a very good job.
Course conditions already getting burned out
I'll start out by thanking the staff who were great on the day. They kept the pace of play up too around the course and made sure all morning groups beat the shotgun start happening on the day.
With that said, it would be nice to know several items before booking a round of golf. The fairways on this course were newly aerated. Full plugs were present everywhere on the fairway and it impacted the game. The greens on the front nine exhibited burn out on almost each hole. Areas surrounding the green were either bare or flooded. All sand traps were flooded and most contained standing water.
We actually started on the back nine. Each of these back nine greens were flooded with standing water. Play around the greens was difficult as most areas were flooded, muddy, or had standing water.
I have extensive images ill upload when i get a chance.
My largest complaint is not knowing that this course was in this condition upon booking. I would never have booked a course just aerated with all fairways in this condition.
Please do better at alerting customers of course conditions, particularly aerating, and seeding. I'm unhappy about playing in these conditions.
Very Scenic course
Very challenging desert course with shots over canyons, and lots of sloping lies. Great condition in May, greens are well cared for. We loved it. Very scenic course.
Awesome golf course
De Lago is our favourite golf course to play .
Everything is great ,
Thank you , see you soon again Hana
Nice soft greens!
Most courses I've played here in Tucson have greens so hard , it's difficult to even stop your ball on them. It was refreshing to have my rare good shot rewarded when my ball stayed where I hit it. Staff was very welcoming and friendly. My only issue was that a wedding was being held there and using the clubhouse facilities so we couldn't even buy a beer or food after the first nine at 3:30. A cooler in the pro shop would be an easy solution!! Otherwise, very nice golf course and I'll be back!
Great Condition
del Lago is great condition. Played on a Tuesday and got around in 3.5 hrs. Greens were fast and true. Will be back!
A little disappointed
I love the layout of this course and have played it many times. We played early and they were still watering the course. The greens were so wet we had to move our balls to not putt through standing water. We had to dodge sprinklers in the fairways many times. I know it's Tucson and tou have to water but it's hard on the golfers to enjoy the round. I don't think I'll be back anytime soon, which is sad because it's a fun layout.
lots of elevation changes
Great difficult course for me anyway, pro shop and starter were excellent, course in great shape , restaurant fine, and overall service was great
Im a homer
Ok so first off I live on this course. But that being said I dont think you could find a better deal in southern Arizona for a great golfing experience. The fairwars are always in great shape, and the greens are almost always fantastic. Only once have I gone there and the greens felt almost unplayable because they were as slick as an ice rink.
Staff are always friendly, and their seems to be a cart person driving around at all times of day offering drinks. The only thing I will say is that at times the pace of play can be very frustrating. I feel like they get a lot of singles in the afternoon, and they should be paired up instead of lone wolfing it.
