del Lago Golf Club
About
del Lago Golf Club sits at an elevation of 3,400 feet, enjoying a temperature that is five degrees cooler than Tucson in the summer, which makes a big difference under the hot Arizona sun. Winding through the hills and valleys of the high desert, the golf course features over 120 feet of elevation changes that present tricky uneven lies. The dramatic undulations also offer beautiful views of the Rincon and Santa Catalinas Mountain ranges. Golfers start at the highest point on the course and then play down into the valley before getting to the back nine, which plays along the Pantano Wash. The first hole is the only forced carry on the course, the remaining holes are friendlier off the tees. Seven lakes dot the golf course, coming into play on six holes, and there is also heavy bunkering around the greens.

Beautiful natural mountain views
It is a beautiful destination and getaway to play the sprawling layout, however it was in terrible shape. The clubhouse is modern and the staff were friendly. Getting back to the course conditions, the greens were decent but very slow and bumpy. The pace of play was also slow considering it was a late morning non preferred tee time.
The course really needs an injection of funds to rejuvenate and renovate the fairways and the traps. The traps were dirt mainly and not the type of sand bunkers one would expect.
Be warned and set low expectations so you’ll enjoy your round. It has great potential but not unless there is a drastic aesthetic makeover. Take care.
What a Treat
18 wonderful holes and no two alike. The course is in very nice shape and even the traps are consistent. The course can be very difficult for beginners which can slow play and cause frustration but as long as people keep up with the group in front of them, the pace is similar to most courses. It makes for a wonderful day.
Cool and breezy day
Cool and breezy but playable. It was pleasant since many of the holes follow draws with surrounding housing elevated above the fairway. It is a fun course.
Course is in awful shape
This course used to be in great condition and sadly it is not anymore. Bunkers are awful fairways are hard as a rock and greens are poor. Will not play again
Two Rounds in One
The staff was wonderful, and the back 9 was excellent tee to green. Several tee boxes are unusually humped, though, over the full 18, and sometimes you have to search for level ground away from the blocks (I played the gold/silver combo). The greens on the back were in great shape, but the front 9 greens were quite poor ... very bumpy--sometimes exceedingly so--and not a true roll to be found. That was the only real downside to the round. Fairways were pretty solid throughout--a few rough spots, but nothing to complain about. I have a feeling that if the nines were reversed, I'd have been a little more negative, but finishing with the good greens made it a better day. If the front 9 greens were in the same condition, I'd call del Lago one of the better bargains to be had for a community course.
Greens
Greens were slow and bumpy. Couldn’t keep the ball going in a straight line. Besides this the course and staff were great. Will be back in the near future.
What Happened??
I’ve been playing Del Lago for years. The greens on the front 9 were horrible. The fairways are hideous and need someone to address this ASAP. The back 9 greens were pretty good but inconsistent roll. The fairways still not very good. I play lots of courses in the Tucson area and this one is in the lower 3rd. The City courses are in overall better condition.
Great course, overseeding didn't do well
I have played Del Lago many times and in the past it was in immaculate shape. But we were told that they had some issues with the overseeding this year and some of the greens were pretty bumpy and in rough shape.
I would still play this course, it tough but fair.
A little scruffy around the edges, but worth playing
Always seems to be cold and windy when we play Del Lago, but not the courses fault!
Bunkers are all declared to be waste bunkers. Front nine greens pretty bumpy, overseed didn't take well, back nine greens better.
I like the layout and variety of holes. Always play it when in Tucson.
del lago awful golf conditions
played del lago on sunday. this course was in terrible condition. this is the height of prime season and del lago looked like a city course in august. the rough had barely any grass was mostly dirt. fairways were not much better and green were choppy and furry. o would not play this course again in these conditions
Front 9 Nightmare
I’ve played the course since it opened and the front 9 was as bad as I have ever seen it. The greens were extremely bumpy and shaggy like grandma’s shag carpet. The back 9 was in good shape, but it was too little, too late. The par 3 tee boxes need work as well. There were so many divots on the tee box it was hard to find a good stance to hit the ball. I won’t go back soon.
The beverage cart was excellent and the clubhouse was very good too.
