Windswept Dunes Golf Course

About
Windswept Dunes Golf Club tumbles across a dramatic landscape covered with white sand dunes accented by lush green fairways. The golf course appeals to players of all skill levels thanks to player-friendly features that are balanced by strategically placed hazards. Although each hole shares the characteristic of being lined with dunes, they each maintain a unique character. The rolling fairways are often wide and generous off the tee and the sand dunes, which stretch from tee too green, are only punishing of the most errant of shots. The approach shots though are as demanding as the tee shots are forgiving. There are numerous bunkers fiercely guarding the large, smooth greens. While the occasional water hazard comes into play, the bunkers are the most challenging element of Windswept Dunes Golf Club.

Awesome Course
Windswept Dunes is one of the best courses I have ever played in my 60 years of playing golf. Excellent condition, wide variety of tees, generous fairways, large but fair greens.
Vacation Round
I am a 30+ and found the course to be challenging yet not brutal. Plenty of risk/reward options throughout. Played mid-afternoon and was moving at a great pace but got bogged down a little midway through the back. Great value and less crowded than other courses around this vacation area.
Windswept dunes
Course was in really great shape. Green were a bit grainy but were in good shape. The one negative about check in. Range balls are not included in the round and and they charged 12.00 for 40 golf balls. Priced a bit to high even with golf now was 80.00
Course was in amazing shape. Tough layout but manageable. My favorite courses in the area now. Will be playing again in the future
Long and Hard
Bucket of Balls was expensive but the course was in good shape and a tough test from the tips.
Misleading
For a Tuesday round it was $150 for the fees and a small range bucket. For that price in Florida I had really high hopes. The pictures online looked interesting but was not everything that it was cracked up to be. Underwhelming for that price. If it was in the $75ish range for a weekday I would feel like there oils be good value, but at the current prices I’d stay away.
Good course
All golf is over priced in this area so there you go. Compared to the other courses in Destin, this course was a better value. The condition of the course was very good to excellent and the fact that we almost had the course to ourselves, on a Sunday morning, made the drive out to Freeport with it.
Nice course, missing the little things to make ti special
Very interesting track that is woven through a sub-division. The dunes on each side of each hole do a nice job of hiding the houses. Each hole is an "island" that is by itself. When I got there at noon I was literally the only one there. There were a few players making the turn but that was itl I got a $80 hot deal special. There is no fringe around the greens which is odd. Fairways and tees were long and not cut recently. Course was a little damp and you got almost no roll off the tee. Greens are huge and were very slow..maybe running an 8. The cups were ragged and likely not changed in a few days.
The carts are gas powered and very loud. They do have very accurate GPS.
For some reason they decided to have tees to make the course play over 7700 yd at the tips. Also at 7400 and 7000. VERY few golfers can play that distance. I am 63, 8 hdcp and it my driver about 240ish and found the white tees at 6000 yds fine since the course played so long.
It was worth the drive, about 35 minutes from Santa Rosa Beach area. IF you want to charge a premium price do the little things - tees in the cart, towels in the cart, ice and 3 bottles of water in the cooler and DO NOT charge $12 for a small bucket of range balls.
It is a daily fee course with no membership for the locals which is odd. Best rate is $89 for locals.
JBIRD
Excellent course, slow 4:45 round , needs better marshaling.
Whispering Dunes Golf Club
Course is located just outside of Freeport. It is a hidden jewel. Great layout, challenging holes that involve sand dunes and traps along with water. You only see the whole you are playing. Tee boxes and days are luscious. Greens are very nice and have undulations. Cart parts are very nice. Staff were friendly and helpful.
An enjoyable experience and a “want to play again” course.
Everything you could want !
Great course and practice facilities. Course seems to do better than others in the area with drainage. Challenging but fair. Hard not to like it alot.
Worth The Drive
This course was recommended to us by an employee of another course. It was a bit of a longer drive from Destin but well worth the extra time. The course was in excellent condition. Fairways were good size and forgiving. Greens were in great shape, very large, and very undulating making for challenging longer putts. The clubhouse and amenities were average but sufficient and the golf carts were nice. One of the best in the area for the price. Will definitely play here again.
Great staff, beautiful course, great slice of Florida.
This is a really perfect representation of NW Florida. This is beautiful course thats very well kept. The staff inside are personable and very friendly, its a place you could kick your feet up on a Thursday night and feel like you are a local and among friends. Course has great tee boxes for whatever challenge you want for the day, bunkers are in excellent shape.
I loved every minute of my early morning round out here. If you can play it during the week and early, you will have minimal traffic.
This is well worth every penny and far exceeds the experience at the resorts.
Great round
