White Wing Golf Club

About
White Wing Golf Club opened its first opened with nine holes in June of 2000, and followed shortly thereafter with the complete package. Often compared to the nearby 1996 Legacy Hills, White Wing isn't quite as long, but is definitely more narrow, lined with massive old oak trees, some of which are located right in the middle of the fairway. Many times even if you pure the tee shot down the middle, you'll be forced to hustle a punch shot under one of these majestic trees.
Billy Casper's design is known for its challenging par 5s, one of which is the signature finishing hole. No. 18 plays downhill into a split fairway, offering a more aggressive shot to the right that must clear Berry Creek at 210 yards out, which gives you the chance to get home in two. If you play it left, you'll need three good shots to get to the green, one of which will involve dealing with one of the huge oaks that looms in the fairway.
White Wing Golf Club's most difficult hole is the par-4 No. 4, which requires an accurate tee shot between fairway bunkers, followed by an approach over a bunker into a multi-level green

Courses has great variety of holes.
A great design that makes you play to your strengths.
Always great playing this course
I always enjoy playing White Wing or any of the three Sun City courses for that matter. They are always in great shape and at a reasonable price. The greens at White Wing were excellent even after the harsher than normal winter we've have up to this point.
White Wing GC
This place was recently remodeled and the facilities are nice and clean. They actually cover the greens with plastic tarps to prevent them from freeze and heavy rains. Greens and fairways are in very good conditions. Greens are challenging.
White Wing
Great day, however the weather could have been better.
Sun City Texas locations leaves one wanting
I found myself in Georgetown, TX with about six hours to spare. I used a golf app to look for available courses. It gave me three to choose from that had availability. I learned they were all part of the Del Webb Sun City Texas Development. I chose White Wing because of the reviews on Golf Advisor. Great staff in pro shop. Course is playable though they need to harvest trees around the tee boxes and a few along fairways. Not the five or six located in the middle of the fairways. Those were fun to play around. Forget on course or clubhouse amenities. They don't exist. No beverage cart. You cannot take beverages out of side the restaurant. Even if you got service, they will tell you what you can't do, instead of what you can do. Operator actually told me to go to the gas station and load up.
not too shabby
Very playable layout. The fairways were a little tight but playable. Good course for the hot deal money.
Closed early before Sunset
It was my understanding when I made a tee time at White Wing that we could play through to Sunset. Ten min. Prior to Sunset the Marshall picked up our balls out of the middle of the fairway and said return carts. Sad finish to golf because someone wants to go home early. I do not feel like I received the golf round I paid for.
The 'Good' Ice & #18 Split Fairway
All in all the course was in really nice shape. The fairways had been aerated a few weeks prior but you couldn’t tell. The tee boxes had also been aerated and were a bit thin; a bit of dirt showing thru. They'd grow back in of course but this was just part of the today's experience. A few of the greens had some burn spots mostly around the edges. They might’ve been cut back recently. Otherwise, they were rolling slow today (with a few extra bumps here & there); they might’ve had a little rain overnight as well.
As always, there are plenty of water coolers and at least two (2) ice chests (with good ice!). I saw one on the front and one on the back -- look for them as they really make a difference in having and keeping a cool drink handy.
#18 oh how we loath thee. This is a split fairway hole where you have to use whichever side the course wants you to play that day; it just depends on where they line up the tee boxes. We prefer the left side simply because your first shot is down a short fairway; you just need to know how far you can hit it before running out of the short grass. Then you have to hit it over the creek, etc. The right side, however, is a long-ish forced carry over the creek with large Texas oak trees on both sides of the hallway that you feel you’re hitting down. It’s not as bad as it seems (provided you can hit a normal drive), but it messes with a lot of us visually/mentally. And the rough can be on the thick side with tall weeds etc since it's so close to the creek. This makes errant shots even harder to find (and play).
And finally -- from what I’ve heard, they don’t charge you any more for choosing to hit from the fairway. Maybe I should try a bit more of that next time.
Staff Attitude
I have played White Wing multiple times and I wish I didn't like the course so much because they have the WORST service out of any course I have ever been to. The course marshal is the most disrespectful person I have ever met. He is the face of White Wing and a complete devastation for the course and even golf for that matter. His level of customer service is pitiful. A 70 year old man with the attitude of a mouthy 12 year old. Really, really embarrassed for them.
One tough course to score well
The course is a GREAT layout. However, you have to play it several times to navigate the greens. Many have considerable slopes and downhill putts are almost impossible to two-putt. The speed on some are almost overwhelming.
The tees and fairways are well maintained, as are the sand traps and bunkers.
It is a real value for the experience.
Slow play
If your looking to get in a 4.5 hour round go somewhere else. Marshalls are present but do not enforce a good pace of play! We had a 2 some holding up around 5 groups. Never going back!
Overbooking the course without making it known ahead of time
Tried to play Sunday at 3 pm. Found a tee time on golfnow so I booked it. Show up and I am told that I will be catching about 3 foursomes. I thought no big deal since it's Sunday.
I get to the 3rd hole where I wait 10 minutes for the group to putt then another 15 to tee off on four when a guy in front of me told me to go home or something because their were 10 foursomes ahead of me playing in their own honemade scramble.
Needless to say I was upset so I went back and got a rain check for all 18 holes.
I think they should not give out times if the course is that full. I understand the people in sun city don't like outsiders playing the courses so maybe they should just make them completely private so we don't waste our time anymore.
Great value!
The course was in great shape and the greens were nice and soft. Exceptional value for a course of this caliber.
Hi Chris7904655,
Thank you for such a positive review! We look forward to you playing here again soon.
Wish I had seen this before I took my son out. You nailed it. They should just make the course private to Sun City retirees
