St. Michaels Golf Club
About
St. Michael's Golf Club sits atop Gallow Hill, providing spectacular views past the River Eden to the historic buildings of St. Andrews. The course sprawls across a prehistoric settlement that is protected by Historic Scotland. The terrain is an interesting mix of wooded parkland and undulating heathland with a well-draining sandy base. The golf course features small greens and narrow fairways that place a premium on accuracy. While it may not have the prestige or the classic links layout of St. Andrews, St. Michael's Golf Club offers just as formidable a test. The challenges begin immediately on the first hole, an uphill par 4 with a fairway that slopes right to left. St. Michael's signature hole is the par-3 15th, which many consider to be the most demanding short hole in Fife. There is a large dip to the left and rear of the green, a bunker to the front right, and out-of-bounds to the left and on the railway line behind.

The 15th Par 3 Photo submitted by BJK77 on 10/14/2020
Unexpected and Enjoyable
We played this on a really good day and thoroughly enjoyed this course. Was not expecting it to be so nice and loved some of the par 3 holes. It is a good walk and at times quite hilly but really good fairways and lovely greens. The course condition was really good with fairways being a bit dry due to hot weather.
Very impressed.
Arrived as a last minute booking.
Great practice area at the car park, and then onto the course.
Was in excellent condition, nice pace on the greens.
Only disappointment was there was no pro shop or vendor open at the club for soft drinks & water as it was a roasting day.
Other than that it was thoroughly enjoyable and we will certainly be returning.
Nice little track
For the time of year after much rain in good condition a nice little track small greens good short game required
A lovely course for beginners and proficient players
Their front nine of this course are in the open, rolling hills with wide fairways but beware going into the rough, as you leave the 11th you enter into the trees and these become a hazard for the wayward golfer, though the fairways are not narrow here either so if you stay on course you are fine. The 15th is a tricky short one, too short and you roll back down a steep hill, too long and you risk hitting the Aberdeen-Kings cross train! Although this is not too daunting a course for a beginner - I played it first when still very much a novice - it is still a challenge for a more seasoned player. Prices are reasonable for a round, the staff are friendly as are other golfers. It is a smaller club so the course is rarely busy, outwith a competition. A lovely course that I would recommend to anyone visiting St Andrews, which is a mere few miles away.
Best round ever
Played this course today and as a beginner found it interesting and really chuffed that I played my best round ever. Played in the afternoon, so the course was fairly quiet. Staff and members were really helpful and friendly, even the poor guy that was playing begins us!
Good Test
Excellent course to play when in the St Andrews area with a good variety of holes. Some holes with “extra” challenge such as the 16th. Usually in very good condition. Could do with a bit of rain to lush it up a bit but on the other hand the good run on the ball was very welcome.
Quick 9 holes
Wanted to just nip round the back nine in as short a time as possible. It only took me 75 minutes so I was very satisfied with that.
The winter layout wasn’t my favourite thing, I much prefer the full length layout.
That said the course was in a 7 out of 10 condition which is ok after the rain locally over the Autumn.
October fast
Course was pretty quiet so no issues on pace of play, work had been carried out on the greens so putting was a bit of a lottery.
New vs Old
Front 9 very open and modern, back 9 more woodland and traditional not to mention tricky. Great fun to play and a lovely contrasting challenge between front and back 9's.
Who needs St Andrews
Yes who needs St Andrews when you have this little gem next to Leuchars!
Up from Norfolk with my sons and played this course today for the second time in a week.
Great value, very friendly helpful staff even gave us the back nine again for free so 27 holes played today!
Course is in fantastic condition & each hole asks questions & very testing .
Will be returning next year.....
Lovely course
First time playing this course, loved it. Course was very dry due to the long hot summer so got a great run. Greens were in good condition. Got round very quickly as a single player. Would recommend this course and would play again.
