St. Michael's Golf Club sits atop Gallow Hill, providing spectacular views past the River Eden to the historic buildings of St. Andrews. The course sprawls across a prehistoric settlement that is protected by Historic Scotland. The terrain is an interesting mix of wooded parkland and undulating heathland with a well-draining sandy base. The golf course features small greens and narrow fairways that place a premium on accuracy. While it may not have the prestige or the classic links layout of St. Andrews, St. Michael's Golf Club offers just as formidable a test. The challenges begin immediately on the first hole, an uphill par 4 with a fairway that slopes right to left. St. Michael's signature hole is the par-3 15th, which many consider to be the most demanding short hole in Fife. There is a large dip to the left and rear of the green, a bunker to the front right, and out-of-bounds to the left and on the railway line behind.

Good Test

Excellent course to play when in the St Andrews area with a good variety of holes. Some holes with “extra” challenge such as the 16th. Usually in very good condition. Could do with a bit of rain to lush it up a bit but on the other hand the good run on the ball was very welcome.

Quick 9 holes

Wanted to just nip round the back nine in as short a time as possible. It only took me 75 minutes so I was very satisfied with that.

The winter layout wasn’t my favourite thing, I much prefer the full length layout.

That said the course was in a 7 out of 10 condition which is ok after the rain locally over the Autumn.

October fast

Course was pretty quiet so no issues on pace of play, work had been carried out on the greens so putting was a bit of a lottery.

New vs Old

Front 9 very open and modern, back 9 more woodland and traditional not to mention tricky. Great fun to play and a lovely contrasting challenge between front and back 9's.

Who needs St Andrews

Yes who needs St Andrews when you have this little gem next to Leuchars!

Up from Norfolk with my sons and played this course today for the second time in a week.

Great value, very friendly helpful staff even gave us the back nine again for free so 27 holes played today!

Course is in fantastic condition & each hole asks questions & very testing .

Will be returning next year.....

Lovely course

First time playing this course, loved it. Course was very dry due to the long hot summer so got a great run. Greens were in good condition. Got round very quickly as a single player. Would recommend this course and would play again.

Great course

Loved playing here. Recent hot weather meant ball was running for miles. Hard holes in back 9 made my stableford points not so good! Would recommend playing here.

Run Run Run

Like most courses at present fairways are burnt to a crisp and the ball just keeps running. A different kind of challenge. However greens are still excellent and course enjoyable as usual with great views over to St Andrews.

Open Week

As usual, staff and members very friendly.

Outing in front slowed things down a little but not frustratingly so.

If you’re in the area, this is a great “alternative” to all the Links.

WOW!

Played this course for the 2nd year running and i want to keep coming back, this course is an absolute must play for any golfer, and dont let the price of the green fees put you off, £10 on a tuesday! What a bargain! And this course is worth a lot more i guarentee it. Front 9is newer than the back and it shows at the moment, but its a good test, but when you hit the original course, the back 9 well WOW is all i can say! What a stunning set of holes, perfect fairways and true greens.

Everyone who has played this course with me (8 players each year) have said how good it is, and they want to come back again, and we will be.

Hidden gem

This course is up there in my top 3 courses I’ve ever played(over10years)...... Course/value for money 1st bar non...don’t let the fact that there’s no practice area, or the putting area is tiny, and the clubhouse looks like your uncles shed!! I’ve played here for the last 2 years and It’s a course I would recommend to anyone who loves GOLF ...Font nine are good and holes10-13 are fantastic, but the5 holes are why you keep coming back to this wonderful course

I'll be back

The wind will affect the first few holes which are wide open, playing off adjacent fairways was common. The 2nd 9 is quite different, tight fairways, some absolute must play classic holes, I particularly like 12,13,14,15,16,17. The 15th's reputation as the hardest hole in fife might be correct. Great course, THE most friendly staff, fine greens. I will definitely be back for another round or two.
