St. Michaels Golf Club
About
St. Michael's Golf Club sits atop Gallow Hill, providing spectacular views past the River Eden to the historic buildings of St. Andrews. The course sprawls across a prehistoric settlement that is protected by Historic Scotland. The terrain is an interesting mix of wooded parkland and undulating heathland with a well-draining sandy base. The golf course features small greens and narrow fairways that place a premium on accuracy. While it may not have the prestige or the classic links layout of St. Andrews, St. Michael's Golf Club offers just as formidable a test. The challenges begin immediately on the first hole, an uphill par 4 with a fairway that slopes right to left. St. Michael's signature hole is the par-3 15th, which many consider to be the most demanding short hole in Fife. There is a large dip to the left and rear of the green, a bunker to the front right, and out-of-bounds to the left and on the railway line behind.

The 15th Par 3 Photo submitted by BJK77 on 10/14/2020
Blowing a hoolie
Arrived at course early and enjoyed a lovely cooked breakfast whilst chatting to the members and staff.
Not having played here before was hoping for a few pointers and some local knowledge before heading out.
My self and playing partner just about managed to stay on our feet after the uphill first as the wind got up adding to the character of the course and reminding us that although it was fairly open it was a challenging course and a good test of golf.
We settled in to a nice pace and managed to tame the wind on the front 9.
Teeing off on the 10th once again you have to consider the elements. This being said the back 9 is more protected from the wind and straight drives and decent approach shots are needed to plot your way around them.
The 16th par 3 over the gully down to the railway line can make or brake your round.its one of those holes you can play shots into all day long.
Once you have enjoyed the 16th, up pops a great blind par 4, that if your brave and hug the treeline on the left this is one to go for.
This is finished of with a nice straight par 4 all down hill back to the club house.
Where the staff are waiting to welcome you back with variety of meals on offer from the menu and a few refreshments.
We managed to the great surprise of the staff and member's to complete our round in just 2 hours 10 mins. However we were a 2 ball and managed to tame the elements.
For most I would think a 2 ball will be around the 3 hour mark. May be just over.
Great friendly little club and one we will definitely be back playing sooner rather than later.
A fairvtest for all levels and very enjoyable.
Great course
It was a great course, I've heard it was a small course but it's anything but that! Scenic views, drastic elevation changes, undulated fairways and greens, conditions were excellent. A must play if you ask me.
Enjoyable course
In very good condition, particularly the greens. Like the patterned fairways. Interesting finish which requires straight hitting.Food in clubhouse particularly good and very reasonably priced.
Great course... annoying greenkeeper!!!
Great course which even in wetish conditions held up very well but my round was spoiled by the greenkeeper who didn't really show any courtesy to me and continued cutting the grass around the tee boxes even when I was about tee off. I know he has a job to do but he could of at least stopped for a minute or so.
Lovely course
Thoroughly enjoyed playing this interesting course. The weather was nice which helps as I guess it can be a bit windy on the higher parts of the course. Nice layout with some interesting challenges. I hope to go back sometime - loved it.
Great Wee Course
First time playing this year although we have playrd many times before. Interesting mix of holes make for an enjoyable day's golf. Course in good condition even although still early in the season. Everyone very friendly. Thoroughly recommended for good value golf.
A Really Enjoyable Place to Play
Great day golfing by a group of 8 of us. Staff were very friendly and pleasant providing a really good service. The course was looking in great condition for the start of the season.
Enjoyed playing the course which has good fairways and short semi rough making it ideal for visitors and middle handicap players. Greens required good approach shots, and were in good nick for the time of year. Good variety of holes and would go back and play again.
In a two ball we were round the course in 3hrs 10mins.
Must also say that staff were very friendly and helpful.
Good value
Was winter course but still full greens, couple of winter tees but course was in okay condition, greens immaculate for this time of year. NO MATS :-)
Excellent for this time of year
It's always a struggle at this time of year to find full greens in operation so we were delighted upon arrival to find 18 full greens. Most courses have core holes and the roll and pace is pretty dire. These geeens were in great condition and had good pace. I've also played against st mikes in the scratch league and can vouch for the friendliness of the staff and excellent food. This is one course that people should definitely play, especially the value for money. Great little track, if it was 10 miles closer to home I'd be signing up for a membership.
only 9 holes open
Were disappointed when we arrived to discover only front 9 open. Were looking foreard to playing this course as we have played it before. Also score cards not accurate to take account of changes to the course. Would like to play it again when changes are complete. Played today 11th October.
Fun golf
We had an amazing time playing this course. It is challenging and gives you a great walk, lot of up and down. The people are the best!
Quiet but brilliant
Full greens and tees when other clubs are struggling to open. Overall a really nice course.
