I know we have had a wet summer but I found the course to be in very poor condition.ie greens poor sandy fairways .Always players pushing other groups no gap with tee times.no bins on the course the wife and I have played this course many times in the past and loved it.but sad to say on this occasion it did not light our fire..
Great golf course. Green fee includes a small basket of balls to warm up before your round. Great variety of holes and will definitely play again good value.
What a course
Amazing course if you are in the area it's a must play. There was a lot of rain the night before I played but the course drained excellent. Great views of St.Andrews and an amazing course with a stunning club house. Staff are very helpful and polite.
On a warm but windy day, our 4 ball arrived at The Dukes, following the 5 hour drive up from Burton On Trent.
The Dukes had been recommended to us by several people and we looked forward to it immensely.
On arrival, we were greeted by the Reception/Pro shop representative, he was very friendly and efficient, explaining all aspects, from locker room access to first tee location.
We purchased items and again were dealt with very professionally.
Then we moved into the lounge to have a drink and bite to eat while awaiting our tee time, this was not such a pleasant experience.
The Barstaff were very poor, taking an age to take our order and actually getting it wrong.
Our food also took a long time, and when it did arrive, it had obviously just been microwaved... Not what we were expecting from The Dukes....
Golf wise, tough course, playing with a cross wind most of the way round, it tested all 4 of us, but in a good way.
As our first experience of St Andrews golf, it proved a tough test, and we all played slightly over our handicaps (7 - 12).
Greens and fairways were running hard and fast, but the green pace threw us a little, as the ball seemed to slow up very quickly.
A very enjoyable afternoon on the course, slightly spoilt by the catering in the clubhouse.
Played the course after 4 days of very heavy rain and the course was in excellent condition. Very welcoming staff throughout and fantastic value for money when booked through TeeOffTimes.
Course in good condition for the time of year, full course no fairway mats or winter greens, great value for money, amazing views
Interesting course with some great holes. A real test in the winter as wet under foot although otherwise in great condition.
A real challenge.
winter greens which were exceptionally poor ie not even an area cut from the fairway, see attached picture. Thick fog combined with the state of the course set up we walked off after 2 holes. Attempted to get some kind of refund or even vouchers to come back but staff not interested in accommodating. We went back out but this all in all it was a pretty poor experience. I would recommend avoiding in the winter months for £25 -£30pp St Andrews Bay far superior condition and overall value for money.
Definitely a hidden gem
We played this on Christmas Eve and expected the course to be busy but in fact we had the course to ourselves; everyone must have been Christmas shopping. The staff were superb and we played a very enjoyable round on a fantastic course. The greens were magnificent given the time of year. The facilities i.e. pro shop and clubhouse were top drawer, you won't get much better anywhere and the staff were really friendly. Slight gripe in that the food was a little pricey but for the cost of the game and the facilities, it was an absolute bargain. We cannot wait to get back there on a warm sunny day. Definitely one to play.
Played on Christmas Eve. Course was in fantastic condition. This was my first time but certainly won't be my last. This is a terrific course which is every bit as good as any others in St Andrews; a true hidden gem. Facilities are excellent and the staff were really helpful. We will definitely be back.
The Dukes is a really interesting course which presents a challenging and varied lay out. Standing above St Andrews it has wonderful views on a clear day. Well worth a visit.
Great views, great course
I normally play one of the links courses when in St Andrews but tried The Dukes for a change. A great welcome, one of the best locker rooms I have been in complete with snooker table chairs and tv. The course is great with each hole different from the last. Lots of bunkers but all with great sand, greens had been dressed but were good. I will certainly be back again
A warm welcome and a great course
My wife and I received a warm welcome from the pro who couldn't have been more helpful. This is the first time we have played this course and we loved it. It's a great layout and you can select which tees to play off depending on your ability so its a fair test for all. We had an excellent lunch in the lounge afterwards over looking St Andrews. We're looking forward to coming back soon.
This has been the 4th time I've playing the Dukes course and it doesn't disappoint. Great course layout and tee box selection for all level of golfers.
On of the best in area
Staff excellent starter very helpful course in excellent condition for time off year greens running very well even after a lt off rain night before would recommend
a pleasure to play
A fantastic course and a pleasure to play.
much much better than a links if you visit ST Andrews play this course you will love it.
Great location, good course and friendly, efficient service
From the moment we arrived at Duke's we were impressed. As a family of golfers, there are many good golf courses to play and the thing that sets them apart is the customer service and the smaller 'nice' touches. The food was good quality, served quickly and the staff friendly - only minor complaint was one member of staff who seemed to struggle to understand English. To the practice facilities, the smaller holes on the putting green we're great, the 'free' balls on the range etc were nice touches. The course itself was well maintained and a good challenge playing from the white tees. All in all, we had a great time and as and when we come back to Scotland we would certainly think of Duke's.
A great day out if you book for the sunset price
The price paid for the sunset tee time made this one of the best value games of golf that I have played. We arrived early and we advised that we could tee off whenever we wanted to because the course was quiet. The fairways were manicured as were the greens, all I need to do now is get my game up to a sufficiently high enough level to match the course.
Superb course. Staff exceptionally friendly and welcoming.
