St. Michaels Golf Club

About
St. Michael's Golf Club sits atop Gallow Hill, providing spectacular views past the River Eden to the historic buildings of St. Andrews. The course sprawls across a prehistoric settlement that is protected by Historic Scotland. The terrain is an interesting mix of wooded parkland and undulating heathland with a well-draining sandy base. The golf course features small greens and narrow fairways that place a premium on accuracy. While it may not have the prestige or the classic links layout of St. Andrews, St. Michael's Golf Club offers just as formidable a test. The challenges begin immediately on the first hole, an uphill par 4 with a fairway that slopes right to left. St. Michael's signature hole is the par-3 15th, which many consider to be the most demanding short hole in Fife. There is a large dip to the left and rear of the green, a bunker to the front right, and out-of-bounds to the left and on the railway line behind.

The 15th Par 3 Photo submitted by BJK77 on 10/14/2020
Good wee course but would recommend getting a buggy
Great course
Very good course
Played the Strath & Eden whilst at St Andrews.
The Greens at St Michaels was as good and the course layout much better than the Strath course.
Really impressed especially with the back 9 holes.
14th Par 5
15th Par 3
16th Par 4
All were different and spectacular.
Would definitely recommend.
Great value, great course
A great course for the price.
Some very unique holes.
A few blind shots and uphill approaches to the green.
A very challenging walk but I walked round in exactly 3 hours.
A lovely little clubhouse with outdoor patio if it’s warm enough.
All in all I recommend this course.
Add St Michaels to your play list
St Michael's is great course and well worth a visit. Despite a relatively short yardage at just under 6000 yards, its a good test. Course was in good condition, plenty of contours on the greens and a nice variety of holes with a very picturesque back 9 and some great par 3'.s At £23 a round its a well worth a visit the next time you are in the St Andrews area. I'm a single figure handicapper who plays regularly and has played a lot of courses and this is one I will go back and play. Good food in the bar at really reasonable prices too. Staff very friendly too.
A wee gem close to St Andrews
The course is stunning. Well laid out, some really attractive and the odd really challenging holes.
It was in excellent condition when we played, and whilst there were other players on the course, it couldn’t be described as busy.
Nor is it particularly hilly although a couple of holes do get the lungs working. (The club does hire buggies (£20).
The clubhouse is not an old traditional Scots Golf Clubhouse. A more modern single story building. Apart from no Pro Shop it has everything you need. Scorecards, fees, and food and drink are obtained from the bar. Good simple fare all at very reasonable rates. Golf fees also in the cheap category. £40 per person for 18 holes, although we managed to get one of the Special Deals at £20 per golfer. Both are excellent value, as were the buggies. Special mention about the members. We were made extremely welcome as visitors.
Would we come back? Definitely, indeed this was our third trip there. And I have no doubt we will be back again.
Highly recommended.
Excellent windy day
Great Heathland course. Fantastic greens better than the Eden at a fraction of the price. Great food in clubhouse
Good Test
Another Old Tom Morris course ticked off our list with some very interesting hols especially 15/16/17 which once you have played would be even better. It's a hilly course and as a 70 year old carrying was pretty tough would recommend a buggy if you are able to get one, they were all booked. We had perfect weather, sunny day with very little wind so that was a bonus. Would definitely play again but with a buggy.
Cracking Course
Locely course with some magnificent Par 3's. The 14th,15th and 16th are up there with some of the best holes I've played. Word of caution though i would definitely recommend Buggies if over the age of 60 or people that struggle with Fitness
Unwelcoming Members
Put a real dampener on the round with an aggressive member scolding our group who were unaware that certain tees were competition only. The staff members we met upon arrival were really friendly and helpful, the same can’t be said for a pair of the members who were very hostile towards us, for an honest misunderstanding. There is a way of politely explaining things to people which these members don’t seem to understand. As newer golfers it can be really off putting when people conduct themselves this way. I would not recommend anyone who is new to the sport to play here, until the club can address these members to show more positive behaviours towards said newer visitors.
One of the best.
After travelling up to Scotland to play Monifieth and St Andrews New course to celebrate my 50th we needed another course to play whilst there. We decided upon St Michaels and it was the best decision we made. Absolutely stunning course. Tee to green it was in phenomenal condition. Memorable holes on every turn especially the par 3 15th followed by the par 4 16th. It was just a gem of a course. We were made more than welcome by the staff there. Friendly, helpful and genuinely lovely people. Such a great day.
Lovely day.
The course was fairly busy with it being a bank holiday Monday. There was a 4 ball that let us through quickly and everyone else was keeping up with play. Greens were great and I love playing down towards the railway line (especially as a train goes past).
Bargain!
Myself and a mate played the course and I have to say what a bargain. I have paid more for courses which are less enjoyable and worse maintained. Greens were immaculate and there is some cracking holes throughout. I will 100 percent be playing again.
