St. Michaels Golf Club

About
St. Michael's Golf Club sits atop Gallow Hill, providing spectacular views past the River Eden to the historic buildings of St. Andrews. The course sprawls across a prehistoric settlement that is protected by Historic Scotland. The terrain is an interesting mix of wooded parkland and undulating heathland with a well-draining sandy base. The golf course features small greens and narrow fairways that place a premium on accuracy. While it may not have the prestige or the classic links layout of St. Andrews, St. Michael's Golf Club offers just as formidable a test. The challenges begin immediately on the first hole, an uphill par 4 with a fairway that slopes right to left. St. Michael's signature hole is the par-3 15th, which many consider to be the most demanding short hole in Fife. There is a large dip to the left and rear of the green, a bunker to the front right, and out-of-bounds to the left and on the railway line behind.

The 15th Par 3 Photo submitted by BJK77 on 10/14/2020
Lovely 18 hole course, great layout
Great course, but being a visitor none of the holes were numbered.
definition of a scottish gem!
Course was in great condition and also great fun! well worth a visit, one of those scottish gems you talk about!
Nice wee track
Played here lots of times in the winter and is always on full greens. The course was in great condition considering the poor weather lately, greens were outstanding. If your looking for a relatively cheap course on full greens during the winter, this is the place to come.
Warm welcome
Touring Scotland in our Motorhome and we’re staying close by. Warm helpful welcome ensured we were out and playing promptly… conditions were bright but with a stiff two club wind adding to the challenge - greens were recovering from Autumn maintenance but still ran true if a little sandy. Front 9 are the newer part of the layout , the back 9 has a couple of great signature holes - 14 , 15 , 16 stood out for me - good value food and drinks had in the clubhouse were the welcome remained warm - Thank you and hope to see you again ⛳️🏌️♂️
A course of two halves
First 9 holes are fairly straightforward and no great features. Back 9 are more exciting and testing. Some good features towards the end with the short par 3 15th and blind 16th tee.
Whilst it’s close to St Andrews is more of a parkland course with some trees and being up on a small hill some holes can be windy.
Good fun but for GolfNow players or should be about £20 maximum.
Great Value and Very Welcoming
Having driven passes this club many times I finally decided it was time to give it a go. We were looking for a course that wasn’t too long, playing with the ladies, also was good value. St. Michael’s didn’t disappoint.
We picked a tough day as it was blowing a gale, even the locals commented on how hard it was playing.
The course was in great condition. Some of the views were wonderful. We even saw a red squirrel at the 15th tee!
Being a train nut I enjoyed the last 4 holes along the railway.
We had a light lunch before our round. The staff couldn’t be more accommodating.
Go and have an enjoyable round.
Excellent value & surprising back 9.
Myself and my girlfriend okayed this course at the start of the September weekend, with an afternoon tee off I expected it to be quite busy however the pace of play was excellent. The front nine is laid out very well and offers a varied challenge with the lucky dip par 3 proving the most difficult. The back nine however is where this course shines, St. Mick’s corner and the holes each end of that are truly excellent. The whole course was in great condition and the food in the clubhouse was also superb. I wish we were more local to enjoy it more often. Thanks!
Great course
Had brilliant day with my grandson course was good greens we’re quality
Great course and brilliant value
This course is a bargain at the price, well looked after and very friendly staff in the clubhouse and in the course. Played
It last year and it’s even better this year. Well worth playing.
Quick Solo Round
Played the course for the first time and was really impressed. Booked last minute and got a twilight tee time for £15. The course was great. Had nobody directly Infront of me so played pretty fast. Some great holes with a mix of difficulty. Had abit of a disaster on hole 14, where the Tee box is directly next to the 18th Tee box. A group waited on 18 while I Teed off and I hit perfctly into the woods 😂 Easy mistake.
15 is obviously the trademark hole on the course and lives up to the hype.
Would definitely recommend this course to anyone who will be in the St Andrews area. You won't be disappointed.
Great wee hidden gem in the home of golf.
Second time playing this hidden gem, a must play if near St Andrews.
A proper test for any standard of golfer. A great variety of holes, with particularly challenging par 3’s as you go.
The back 9 is particularly good fun with most holes being tree lined.
The closing 4/5 holes are about as good as you’ll get making the journey in a true test for anyone trying to keep a card going.
Great Value But Slow
Tee time was I suspect cheap because it was right after a ladies stableford so the pace was unacceptably slow combined with some horrible squally weather the round wasn’t as pleasurable than it might have been. I’d have paid to have had a clearer run at the course and not to have to wait so long between shots
Very nice course
Very nice course but hard fo people from the americas who are not accustom to walking. Not enough buggies
