Fairways were in good shape two green were damaged Photo submitted by phischman on 08/07/2013
Mosquitoes and Grass Growing in the Bunkers
Please is destroyed in mosquitoes, nearly turned around after the 2nd hole, never going back there
Mosquito infested
The most painful round that I have ever played! To begin with arriving at the course, it makes you wonder if the course is open for it is in disrepair. It seems that they no longer even bother to cut the grass. Then if you are playing Split Rock, bring a good brand of insect repellent. The mosquitoes are out of control!. The. Green Ian’s the course it self are in a very good condition, the mosquito made the game very miserable.
Stay away
This course was let go horrible shape. Everything was overgrown the bunkers have no sand and was full of weeds overall was in very very very bad shape I would not recommend this to anybody even if it was for $10
Love course!
Love the lay out, need manicuring . Ruff is a little high;
Long par 4s and bug bites
Bring your bug spray, your patience, and your wallet... course wasnt cheap... got killed by mosquitoes, and took 5 hours... meh
The good and the bad
Played split, which has a fantastic layout. The greens were in good shape for a public course... no major complaints there.
The bunkers are atrocious. They must’ve decided to take the year off from maintenance because they are unkept, weeds growing rampant, really is a shame. Fairways aren’t in great shape but playable. Tee boxes about the same. The mosquitoes weren’t as bad as some have mentioned, but we went heavy on bug spray. Worst holes were 6-9. Hopefully they’ll be able to give the course some much needed TLC prior to next season.
Horror Show and Waste of Money. Beware!
A friend and I decided to give this course a try and it was an absolute horror show. No maintenance all. All of the fescue was terribly overgrown. Mosquitoes everywhere. By the time we reached the four holes there was blood all over my legs and socks from all do the bites. We decided to cut our losses and turnaround and get off the course to avoid anymore bites! Horrible experience. Waste of time. Would never play there again especially not for $80 per player.
Wore at bunkers ever
Cost is a great layout worst bunkers I’ve ever played course conditions I would say from a scale 1 to 10 probably four very unfortunate it’s an awesome layout
Not good
The course has been “let go”. Beware of mosquitos
Rip Off
I paid $240 for 4 people. It was the worst money I spent. The course was really bad. There were weeds growing everywhere!! The sand traps even had weeds!!! The whole place looked run down. I’m very upset I spent that much money.
Mosquitos everywhere
Terrible.. Mosquitos everywhere even the starter asked us if we were crazy because we didn’t have bug spray. Didn’t think that was needed for a golf course in the Bronx. Can’t say it enough literally mosquitos everywhere once you hit the 1st tee box. Go elsewhere.
Grey Gardens Golf Course
This course has turned into a cow pasture. Every bunker looks like Grey Gardens with weed infestation, the rough is beyond “thick” - more like farmland, tees and fairways are barely maintained and greens rolling like they haven’t been attended to since the beginning of Covid.
There is no excuse for this level of poor course maintenance. Millions of people are out of jobs, hire a grounds crew.
Not to mention there is no beverage cart or area to grab a drink or snack anywhere on the course.
Water coolers and Hole signage are blown over from Isaias along with tree branches that could easier be moved off viable play of the course.
The layout could be fantastic if it didn’t look so decrepit from the entrance throughout the course.
NEEDS MAJOR TLC
Stay away from Splittock
I’ve played Pelham twice but played Splitrock for the first time yesterday. It’s honestly a good course but there’s one monster issue: it’s insanely swampy and you will be attacked by mosquitos your entire round. It is absolutely infested with them and it is so overwhelming and consistent that it will prevent you from enjoying the round. I can’t even explain how bad it was, but at any given moment you’ll see 20+ mosquitos swarming your cart when it’s stopped. Everyone we spoke to at the course had the exact same issue. You’ll waste your money if you play Splitrock, either play Pelham or go somewhere else. Trust me.
Generally nice experience
Overall course has good bones. Well designed with good separation between holes. Fairways were bare in a few places. Greens in good shape. Staff got golfers off on time. There was not a ranger keeping pace of play. No food or drink offered.
Bugs bugs bugs
Bring your bug spray. Like 2 bottles . I’ve been to the Amazon before and still split rock takes the cake for most bugs and masquitos
