Fairways were in good shape two green were damaged Photo submitted by phischman on 08/07/2013
Grey Gardens Golf Course
This course has turned into a cow pasture. Every bunker looks like Grey Gardens with weed infestation, the rough is beyond “thick” - more like farmland, tees and fairways are barely maintained and greens rolling like they haven’t been attended to since the beginning of Covid.
There is no excuse for this level of poor course maintenance. Millions of people are out of jobs, hire a grounds crew.
Not to mention there is no beverage cart or area to grab a drink or snack anywhere on the course.
Water coolers and Hole signage are blown over from Isaias along with tree branches that could easier be moved off viable play of the course.
The layout could be fantastic if it didn’t look so decrepit from the entrance throughout the course.
NEEDS MAJOR TLC
Stay away from Splittock
I’ve played Pelham twice but played Splitrock for the first time yesterday. It’s honestly a good course but there’s one monster issue: it’s insanely swampy and you will be attacked by mosquitos your entire round. It is absolutely infested with them and it is so overwhelming and consistent that it will prevent you from enjoying the round. I can’t even explain how bad it was, but at any given moment you’ll see 20+ mosquitos swarming your cart when it’s stopped. Everyone we spoke to at the course had the exact same issue. You’ll waste your money if you play Splitrock, either play Pelham or go somewhere else. Trust me.
Generally nice experience
Overall course has good bones. Well designed with good separation between holes. Fairways were bare in a few places. Greens in good shape. Staff got golfers off on time. There was not a ranger keeping pace of play. No food or drink offered.
Bugs bugs bugs
Bring your bug spray. Like 2 bottles . I’ve been to the Amazon before and still split rock takes the cake for most bugs and masquitos
Mosquito Heaven
Starter should have advised golfers of the course condition. Mosquitoes were everywhere. We had bites all over; we had to stop playing because it was so bad. Furthermore the course was in very poor condition. Stay away until next year.
Disgraceful amount of flys
Never ever have I experienced the amount of flys anywhere before never mind a golf course.
We got so badly bitten we couldn’t even play, we have red bites all over us.
Will never play this course again unless they fix this!!
Good course
Good course, mosquitos were extremely annoying on some holes...
Like Elvis in the later years
It's a shame- I'm a new golf- 2nd year player and now getting comfortable with my game. I played here last year and thought it was a good public course. Not that I know a whole lot as I'm still learning the game, courses , etc
Somehow I actually had one of my better scores here.
The mosquitoes absolutely run you off the course. Not kidding, I literally had spray, a portable bug zapper, and a Tiki Torch on the cart with me and made no difference. The bunkers are unplayable . I feel I was robbed of $80. I wondered why I was able to get a 4some so easily the day before for a beautiful Saturday. In contrast, I can play a public course in Long Island, like Smithtown Landing for $43 and have a much better experience.
Pretty Sad, because I can tell this used to be a pretty good course
I was unable to play the course due to a medical emergency and i asked the pro shop to switch my tee time till tomorrow but they refused and said they were unable to change tee times with golf now reservations.
Horrible flys
I would normally recommend this course to anyone but not after today.
The flys particularly on the front 9 were in unbearable and we all got eaten really bad.
The bunkers were not bunkers there was no sand and couldn’t play them.
Course needs some TLC and back to how it normally plays. Main thing to fix is the amount of flys
Don't waste your time and money and Bring a gallon of bug spray
First off greeted by unfriendly staff who just dont want to be there.
We had 8am Tee off , didn't get out until 8.15.
Fairways and greens are in average condition.
Bunkers have more grass and weeds than sand.
There is no real rough areas. It's fairway straight to deep rough.
To say there is mosquitos everywhere is an understatment.
There is nests everywhere on the course.
Between 4 of us we have over 60 bites and that's with putting on bug spray multiple times.
Eberytime you walk back to your cart you could see 40 or 50 around it. Utter chaos.
Do yourself a favor and go further north. A lot better courses in Westchester.
Mosquitos have taken over
There are mosquito’s everywhere, there’s grass growing out of the bunkers, I feel like l’ve been robbed of $74
Run down & eaten alive
The course itself isn’t well kept. It’s a shame because it used to be nice a couple years back. Rough is very deep, bunkers have weeds growing out of them and there are several tee boxes out of commission and you are forced to tee off of dirt. I don’t know if this is due to the recent storms.
To top it off, from the moment you pull up you are swarmed by mosquitos. The entire front nine is, with no understatement, infested. Bug spray wasn’t enough to keep them away as my group still got pretty chewed up. It got better after the turn if you avoided wooded areas.
Overall I wouldn’t return in this condition. Even at $35 (special price) for the round and cart included I wouldn’t return until at a minimum the mosquitos are dealt with. Maybe the late fall would bring a better experience without the bugs
A shame
I’ve played here for years.
I’m done.
I tried.
It’s close and I love the layout.
Staff has always been rude and combative but I could look past it.
Pelham looks like Chernobyl.
Split rock hasn’t been playable in years due to mosquitos (how is it legal... it should be a safety hazard). God bless the poor soul who’s forced to mow the fairway.
Anywhere but here.
Familiar grounds
The course has not changed much, since I played it many, many years ago. I did play my best round due to better course management, and familiarity with the course. The greens are in good shape, and there were workers working the course. I would certainly play it again.
Pelham
Not bad considering not much rain.
Needs a little maintenance
