Fairways were in good shape two green were damaged Photo submitted by phischman on 08/07/2013
I was unable to play the course due to a medical emergency and i asked the pro shop to switch my tee time till tomorrow but they refused and said they were unable to change tee times with golf now reservations.
Horrible flys
I would normally recommend this course to anyone but not after today.
The flys particularly on the front 9 were in unbearable and we all got eaten really bad.
The bunkers were not bunkers there was no sand and couldn’t play them.
Course needs some TLC and back to how it normally plays. Main thing to fix is the amount of flys
Don't waste your time and money and Bring a gallon of bug spray
First off greeted by unfriendly staff who just dont want to be there.
We had 8am Tee off , didn't get out until 8.15.
Fairways and greens are in average condition.
Bunkers have more grass and weeds than sand.
There is no real rough areas. It's fairway straight to deep rough.
To say there is mosquitos everywhere is an understatment.
There is nests everywhere on the course.
Between 4 of us we have over 60 bites and that's with putting on bug spray multiple times.
Eberytime you walk back to your cart you could see 40 or 50 around it. Utter chaos.
Do yourself a favor and go further north. A lot better courses in Westchester.
Mosquitos have taken over
There are mosquito’s everywhere, there’s grass growing out of the bunkers, I feel like l’ve been robbed of $74
Run down & eaten alive
The course itself isn’t well kept. It’s a shame because it used to be nice a couple years back. Rough is very deep, bunkers have weeds growing out of them and there are several tee boxes out of commission and you are forced to tee off of dirt. I don’t know if this is due to the recent storms.
To top it off, from the moment you pull up you are swarmed by mosquitos. The entire front nine is, with no understatement, infested. Bug spray wasn’t enough to keep them away as my group still got pretty chewed up. It got better after the turn if you avoided wooded areas.
Overall I wouldn’t return in this condition. Even at $35 (special price) for the round and cart included I wouldn’t return until at a minimum the mosquitos are dealt with. Maybe the late fall would bring a better experience without the bugs
A shame
I’ve played here for years.
I’m done.
I tried.
It’s close and I love the layout.
Staff has always been rude and combative but I could look past it.
Pelham looks like Chernobyl.
Split rock hasn’t been playable in years due to mosquitos (how is it legal... it should be a safety hazard). God bless the poor soul who’s forced to mow the fairway.
Anywhere but here.
Familiar grounds
The course has not changed much, since I played it many, many years ago. I did play my best round due to better course management, and familiarity with the course. The greens are in good shape, and there were workers working the course. I would certainly play it again.
Pelham
Not bad considering not much rain.
Needs a little maintenance
Split Rock - skip holes 7, 8, 9
Holes 7-9 we basically got eaten by mosquitoes. I don’t even think that bug spray would have helped. Our golf carts were just loaded with mosquitoes!!
This is the worst course I've played in the NY Metro Area
Mosquitoes are unbearable so bring plenty of bug spray. Course is terribly maintained. Got rained out after 9 holes which per the NYC Parks Golf Policy should be subject to a raincheck for 9-holes which was refused by management when inquired about. Play LITERALLY ANYWHERE but here.
Quality Track - Needs TLC
So we've played at Pelham Bay ad Split Rock for years. @ quality tracks in the Bronx and part of the City of New York owned golf circuit.
First the positives: overall a well-designed course. Many interesting holes and a nice blend of scorable and tough challenges. The layout is not the issue here. Covid protocol was simple and easy. no drama checking ion and getting out. in fact, that was easier than ever and better than pre COVID.
The challenges: they've given up on the bunkers for some reason. grass growing in all . fairways were OK. Greens here are typically a little soft and slower than most in the area.
If pelham and Splitrock were budgeted for quality greenskeeping and maintenance this would be an amazing facility. Its a shame to let great layouts wither.
DO NOT PLAY HERE! Mosquitoes make it UN-PLAYABLE
You are wasting your time and money going to this golf course. It is absolutely over ran with mosquitos through all 18 holes. We thought maybe it would get better as the day went on, or maybe it was just an area of the course that had a big problem but we we’re attacked all day long by 100s at a time.
On top of that- the course is poorly maintained.
DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY HERE
Do Not Play.
Cannot advise against playing this course enough. The absolute worst golf experience I’ve had in recent memory. The course is infested with mosquitoes, and there was not a moment that I did not have less than 20 mosquitoes on me. Other reviews noted the same thing, trust us when we say to avoid this course. It is unplayable with the amount of mosquitoes.
On top of that, the course is poor at best. Conditions were poor, with slow greens, and patchy fairways. The design is horrendous. Holes are unreasonably narrow, with trees and deep brush on both sides that make it impossible to find any golf ball that is not struck perfectly. Take the 7th hole for example - roughly a 450 yard par 4, but the landing area is only about 30 yards wide, with bushes on the left that you can’t even go into, and trees with long, overgrown brush on the right where you have no chance to find a golf ball. This is not a one-off event, it is hole after hole of this. I have never played a course so poorly designed that it is basically unplayable.
If it wasn’t clear, this was a terrible experience. Avoid at all costs.
This course needs better maintenance
Fact that the season has not yet fully open, I refrain from giving an overall impression.
Terrible mosquitoes
Staffs were very kind, but too many mosquitoes attacked us.
Split Rock is mosquito infested
I'm scarred for life after we were brutally tortured through 9 holes with me personally getting 130 mosquito bites. The four of us account for over 400 mosquito bites combined....
We debated quitting earlier but thought it would get better and that we could tough it out....but it was just that bad. Every tee box, any tree, in the rough, all over the carts, there was no escaping.
Everyone around said Pelham has much less mosquito issues.
Be careful, be safe. Might want to wait until the fall to visit this course.
Absolutely the Worst
Looks like the course has not been taken care of since last year. I understand it just opened cause of Covid but maybe they should not have opened till cleaning it up. No one could escape the bugs no matter how much bug spray you put on. I used to like this place but won't be back for a while.
