Customer Service Help Needed
Booked on golf now although no idea which of the 2 courses we booked for. Was told at front desk we’re playing Pelham and got to first tee and was told we’re on the other course. Got out ok on other course in the end. Slow 1st 6/7 holes. Hot day. Limited drinking water on the course. Cart attendant only came round once. Finished and had a bite, no menu’s in grill room. Also, Golf Now booking not eligible for same booking through Golf Zing.
Nice place, good course, management needs some help with customer service.
Play early
I’ve played this course many times. Today I played at 7am in a twosome and played in 3 hrs. I’ve also played here and it’s taken 7 hrs. Lesson learned
In bad shape
It's a shame that this course isn't maintained. I know NYC munis get the short end, but this was probably the worst I've ever seen it
Good Round
Only the rain still not letting the staff fix a few Fairways.
But other than that, the greens are in pretty good shape
Classic course in an NYC muni
Following up on my recent review with more pictures. I'll add that the old classic features that you see on this course, like top-shot bunkers and great mounding in the greens, makes it a gem. I agree the conditioning, especially the tee boxes, is not pristine but it is pretty decent all things considered. The course definitely needs some cutting of tree branches in certain spots, such as the trees on the left side blocking the corner on the dogleg 8th, and the trees on the left of the 10th. But this is still the best traditional NYC muni.
Follow-up to earlier review
Split Rock and Pelham Bay are my favorite of the traditional NYC muni courses (i.e., not counting Ferry Point). Split Rock is the better course for the better golfer and Pelham Bay is more fun, with wider fairways. It has some great greens and makes very good use of the features of the property. Holes 12-18 are particularly good. Don't expect top resort-level conditioning but overall it is usually in good shape (except after a lot of rain- it doesn't drain well).
Business owner
Pelham Bay is the worst golf course that we have played so far.Terrible and wet fairway, bumping green.and messing tee box. We will never come back to play again unless course get improved. For $75 green fee we can play in much better golf course .
Pelham golf course
Played Pelham today. Teed off 15 minutes earlier that our booked tee time. The course is in decent shape, given it’s February. Pace was exceptional. Played 18 holes in 3 hrs 45 minutes.
Pretty damm good roind of winter golf.
They don’t open on time and don’t have winter rates
MI had a 6:48 am tee time. I arrived at 6:15 and had to wait until 7:20 for someone to open up. His advice to me was don’t show up early. They never open early. I complained that they shouldn’t sell early tee times if they don’t intend to honor them.
Never again
What a horrible way to start the New Year.
I booked for Split Rock and when I got there we were told to play Pelham. We spent an average of 15 minutes waiting at every hole to tee off! The groups ahead had wide open greens but because the ranger decided to take the day off (never been a ranger present) our group had the privilege to watch the guys ahead tee up multiple shots, and practice putt on the green! Horrible experience and would have had more fun at putt putt golf.... 6hr round today and that's with us skipping two holes.
how dry I am
Actually, although no drinking water on the course, the 2 free drinks & chow were worth the price.!
Arguable best all inclusive muni in NYC
Pelham/split rock still offers the best all inclusive in all of NYC. I wouldn't book through golf now, though, as the pro shop doesn't honor the all inclusive prices. Use golfzing instead. Course now has temp green on hole #3 at Pelham, and punched tee boxes, but fairways and greens still in decent shape. Still the best pro shop burger in NYC.
Average
The course conditions are above average but the bugs are a bit annoying. Previous posts suggested an extremely bad mosquito problem so we came well prepared with bug spray. But, there weren’t any noticeable mosquitoes but there are a ton of nats and bees. Pace of play was surprisingly ok (4.5 hours) given a Saturday morning tee time. Greens are in good condition but teeboxes and bunkers need some work.
