Pelham Bay at Pelham/Split Rock Golf Course

Pelham/split rock still offers the best all inclusive in all of NYC. I wouldn't book through golf now, though, as the pro shop doesn't honor the all inclusive prices. Use golfzing instead. Course now has temp green on hole #3 at Pelham, and punched tee boxes, but fairways and greens still in decent shape. Still the best pro shop burger in NYC.

The course conditions are above average but the bugs are a bit annoying. Previous posts suggested an extremely bad mosquito problem so we came well prepared with bug spray. But, there weren’t any noticeable mosquitoes but there are a ton of nats and bees. Pace of play was surprisingly ok (4.5 hours) given a Saturday morning tee time. Greens are in good condition but teeboxes and bunkers need some work.

Both courses split rock and Pelham are so bad with bugs that you can’t focus on your game is not worth the money if you can’t enjoy the course

Pouring rain all morning. They weren’t sure they weren’t going to charge me. I wasn’t waitong hrs to tee off later . I’ll be very upset if I do. If this is handled correctly I’ll sign up for the VIP access!!

There is a CRAZY! amount of bugs and it impacts your golf game a lot. When I arrived to the golf course I was completely swarmed by the mosquitoes and a ver nice woman who worked there was literally spraying clumps of bugs off of me with bug spray. If you do decide to play there BRING BUG SPRAY!!! They charge a crazy amount of money for bug spray on the course. If the bugs weren't such a big problem the course would be very nice. I liked the layout and the bunker placement was very challenging. However I am not coming back until the bug problem is fixed (if ever) I have 30 mosquito bites from 2 hours of golf. Awful SMH

Couldn’t believe how bad the mosquitoes were. They were everywhere. All over everything and made the day miserable. They should have some control over that, it’s not a swampy area. Anyway awful day to play because of that.

I have now played both Pelham and Split Rock this summer. Both courses are covered in mosquitos. It makes for a miserable round. Absolutely ruined a beautiful day.

Far and away the most mosquito-infested course I have ever played. Covered in Deep Woods repellent, we were still bitten through our clothing, each walking away with approx 25 bites each. Course play is fine, conditions are virtually unplayable. Groundsmen need to spray the whole place.

Course was is great shape except for the fact the there was a serious bug infestation problem. I got ~50 mosquito bites while using Deep Woods Off. 2 of the greens were so infested with wasps that we could not even complete play on those holes. It's a shame, because the grounds, staff and pace of play was all good. But right now, I feel that this infestation could be considered and public health issue.

Beware!!! The amount of mosquitos on this course is horrifying. Do not play here unless 20-50 mosquitos flying on, around and IN you won’t disturb your golf game.

Extremely slow pace of play - typically 6-7 hours. Course sends a 4some every 5 minutes.

Course is poorly maintained. Split rock course has extreme amounts of bugs.

Bar none, the worst bug experience I’ve ever had on a golf course. Millions of them were flying around. I must have 25 bites from the front 9. Course itself was fine but mosquitoes ruined the experience

This is a follow-up from an old review. Pelham Bay is my favorite NYC muni (not counting Ferry Point). The entire facility along with Split Rock is a gem. Both courses are good, and Pelham has a great mix of being playable and challenging. Fairways and corridors off the tee are mostly wide, but usually present a better side of the fairway for the approach. It has a great mix of hole types- long, short, left, right, up, down, blind, and all in front of you. The greens are splending. Mounds, slopes, tiers. Some nice bunkering around the greens and off the fairways. A pleasure to play.

Awesome course to play! I played split rock, it was challenging but very gettable. Left a few shots out there. Overall the course was very well maintained for a low budget club and greens were fantastic! I would highly recommend this club to anyone who wants to get out and have a good round of golf!

Great city course! First timer. I played Split Rock and my only complaint are trees. I underatand they want it to be a challenge, but the trees off some of the tees (particularly #9) need to be cut back. I didn’t have any issues with them in this particular round, but it would allow for more options off the tees.
