Fairways were in good shape two green were damaged Photo submitted by phischman on 08/07/2013
Overall good. Not the hardest course, but in good condition
For a New York municipal, the course was in perfectly good shape. Greens rolled well. This is a pretty wide open layout so maybe not the most difficult course, but we enjoyed it.
The course is on good condition. Greens a tad slow, but ok. Enjoyable outing and a great value.
Pelham Split Rock
Both tracks interesting Wide open fairways
Long for the higher handicapped golfer
Heavy Play Inexpensive
Greens are true
Course needs a lot of work
Great course and great value
Course was in unbelievable shape. Fairways and greens well maintained. Amazing deal that includes round, cart, lunch and 2 beverages. Will definitely play again
Solid track, local knowledge helps with tricky layout and greens
Split Rock, the much tougher of the two courses located at Pelham Bay provides challenges to even the most advance skilled players. One of the best designed layouts of all NYC courses, various holes require long well placed tee shots to score on this track. Course conditions were better today than most days I played here. Keep in mind these two tracks get a ton of play. Missing fairways due to errant tee shots will punish players, especially mid to high handicappers. Many holes have turtle back greens so local knowledge helps. Remember good approach shots could still stare at you with 3 putting in mind. Was fortunate to play at a early tee time during the week for no pace issues for today's round. With their location and golf specials they offer, this place is almost impossible to avoid for any avid player. Staff here is always friendly as well.
A nice early morning stroll
Enjoy the round and met new friends playing a decent round after the 4th hole. The course was friendly and the greens were running true. I would recommend to anyone visiting the NYC area. Most of all there are great seafood restaurants on City Island after your Round.
Had an outing on other course, over booked the course, 6.5 hour round of golf. They left there regulars out in between holes. Set out a twosome and than a threesome. No rangers on course to speed up play. Terrible round. CALL first to see if they have an outing or you'll be there all day. Also with drinks and food coupon, couldn't use (Closed) by the time we finished.
Pelham Bay/Split Rock is one of my go-to courses.
I prefer Split Rock, the other course here, but Pelham Bay is a nice course. This is where I first learned to play. The layout is not too challenging, but still fun. Great for a beginner, as we had two beginners in our group, and they had a great time. The starter and rangers are all great guys here. I will continue to play here until I can't swing a club anymore
Best NYC Local Option
Out of all the NYC courses (excluding Ferry Point) Pelham/Split Rock is probably in the best condition with the greens in great shape. Unfortunately, even with the 6:30am tee time, the round still took about 5 hours. Pelham's layout is fairly open and offers a good mix of holes. Split Rock is definitely much more challenging.
SLOW PACE
(Split Rock Course) The greens at this course were in great shape. Each hole was a very similar layout, which was a slight dog leg left which got boring pretty quickly. At one point in the round there were (4) foursomes on one hole which was a par 3. I had never seen anything like that before. The only way I would play here again would be very early in the morning or twilight for 9 holes. Overall, not worth a 5 1/2 hour round in my opinion.
Terrible Pace of Play
I played this course yesterday, 6/11, on a 90+ degree day. The course had water coolers/jugs throughout the course, however these were empty the entire round. The course staff made no effort to make up for this, provide water or other beverages, or even seem to care.
This round took 5+ hours, and the course ranger didn't seem to be bothered by that. We notified the ranger that the group in front of us had lost pace with the group in front of them, was playing 3/4/5+ balls per player on a hole with groups on the tee behind them, and was unwilling to ask them to skip a hole.
4 hours to play the front 9. Overbooked and unorganized.
Much improvement - Granted tee time was 5:04am
Had to say, granted it was an early tee time, pace got a lot better. greens were surprisingly in better condition than how i remember it. Tee box still need work but better condition than before. Relatively early in the season so hopefully they can keep it up. Pace of play less than 4 hrs in split rock which is unusual.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
I'm use to playing under four hours, played on July 3, 2017, it took five hours to complete the round. Too long....
