Fairways were in good shape two green were damaged Photo submitted by phischman on 08/07/2013
Fine for early in the season
One of the most interesting public courses of NY with a decent club house and 2 18 hole courses. I like Split Rock more. I would rate it higher but they've just aereated greens so maybe worth letting a couple of weeks pass by before going back
Nice course
Course is in good shape. Motorized carts are old need replacement.
Disorganized chaos
My group had 2 tee times for 11:38 and 11:45. We did not tee off until well passed 12:10 due to the lack of carts available. Nor was anyone giving us information about the availability of carts or where to get them. After my group resorted to self help, there were many people just standing around who followed our lead. Management should never allowed this to happen.
Moreover, after starting us more than 1/2 hour behind schedule, management had the nerve to rush my group because there was an outing that was starting behind us.
I have never seen such poor organization and management on a golf course.
Play during the Week
Wednesday afternoon tee time! 2 people with a great pace of play. Played this course a few times on Friday afternoons and weekends and it gets crowded, as expected. Others waiting to tee off agree that tee times are too close
Amazing season ending round
I had played split rock golf course before and Pelham Bay as well and always enjoyed it. Split rock from the blue tees especially is a real challenge, but fair . The holes are fairly long but the fairways are also very wide for the most part, with subtle elevation changes some really good bunkering around the greens , And some greens with pretty severe Mounds and ridges. The greens usually roll very true and are in excellent shape especially for so late in the season. The course maintenance staff also did a great job clearing the leaves off of the fairways and at least the rough closest to the fairways outside of the tree line. The day after Thanksgiving happen to be unseasonably warm and sunny after first few holes of dense fog where we could barely see, the sun came out and showed split rock and a beautiful light. It was a real bonus round of golf and a real pleasure. I also have to mention they had a special cleans the cart lunch for us that day which made it an incredible value for the money. Really nice job
Pelham Bay
There are 2 course here, this time I played Pelham Bay.
Big difference between the two. Pelham Bay is one of the better City courses. Conditions were very good tees, greens and fairways. The greens were the best part with interesting undulations. Some very memorable holes.
Challenging course but condition wise it depends
This course and it sister course obviously gets a lot of play. Most challenging layout in NYC and really depends on when you play for conditions. Never had a problem with the staff. During the summer with the afternoon lunch specials, this place is a steal.
self
Everything was ok except that I register at Pelham and they put me in split rock
Split Rock
Course is in decent shape given summer heat and lots of play. A nice challenge from tips.
Split Rock
There are 2 courses here, I played Split Rock. Greens were recently aerated. Corse conditions were poor, besides the greens, Tee's were some what bare and off the fairway was either rough or hardpan. If you haven't played it, I would say yes, but wouldn't want to play it everyday.
Love the course
I was not able to start until an hour after my tee time. I was not able to finish the second nine because of congestion and DARKNESS. Can I get a rain check?
Bring bug spray to Split Rock
The course was interesting and challenging. More challenging was keeping the insects from feasting on us. the beverage cart should sell insect repellent. One player at the snack bar said " you made it through the gauntlet holes 8 & 9, you will not need the spray for the back nine. Almost 5 hour round on Saturday morning - pace a little slow. Would only play in early spring or fall
1st time there
The carts are gas powered and noisy and dirty. The pro shop staff explain nothing and are far from welcoming. Plenty of free parking and the course offers plenty of challenges for all skill levels. I will return and suggest you go on a week day. We went on a Friday and it seemed busy, I can't imagine going on a weekend. Bring a cooler and plenty of water. Overall I recommend this course if you get a good deal.
Nice wide open course
Course was very crowded that day but we still found it to be enjoyable. On one of the holes on the back nine it must have had about a thousand divots, but overall it was maintained well.
Pelham Bay
Pelham Bay is flat and wide open no surprises very nice . With the amount of play the course is in excellent condition .
very nice course
great shape fairways n rough where excellent greens were readable & makeable
Slow, Unfriendly and Unhelpful Staff
Pace of play was abysmal - walked off the course after a 3 hour 15 minute front nine.
The guy driving around on the cart didn't do anything to speed up the round (it was so crowded I don't think he could have). The waitstaff at the restaurant also wouldn't make eye contact and I had to raise my hand to order at the bar even though it wasn't crowded.
The course itself was nice enough and I would have returned if they didn't overcrowd the place and if the staff was cordial.
Straight Shooters
The course is in good shape. The greens are not ideal as they're very inconsistent from hole to hole. This is certainly a challenging course as it rewards straight shooters and smart and disciplined course management.
Slowest round since the last time I played This course.
The management has a lot of nerve to charge 70 dollars for 18 and a cart when they just load up the first tee with multiple foursomes (6 plus hour round). Clearly they aren't concerned with the game of golf or their customers enjoyment/love for the game. They only care about making money. If you are a weekend warrior who hacks and loves to waste money this is your course.
This course has great features
The Servicers are very kindly, the golf course is wonderful, will play again so...
