Fairways were in good shape two green were damaged Photo submitted by phischman on 08/07/2013
really good track
a very fun, interesting, and challenging track. the best of NYC's public courses in my opinion. best to get out early or this can flow slow. some really tough holes and a fair fun course to play
Fun forgiving track with traditional design
Not bad conditions for this time of year, I've seen this place in far worst conditions. Staff is always nice, and for a Sunday it seemed pretty empty. Great convenience due to its location and afternoon weekday specials are tough to pass up.
5 1/2 HOURS
HOOPLES IN FRONT AND HOOPLES TO THE REAR. THE COURSE COULD BE GOOD...BUT THE PLAYERS AND THE LACK OF COURSE CARE MAKE IT A WASTE.
Ugh
Notwithstanding that there was stil snow around and conditions were muddy, this is a course that begs for some major maintenance work or even a major overhaul. NYC and the managers of the course do themselves and the golfing public no favors by letting golfers make the conditions even worse by allowing play before the course is ready. At least they have the sense to keep Split Rock closed until conditions improve. For the same or less money, one can play far superior designed and maintained Westchester County courses that are only a few minutes away. .
Always Good
I have played Pelham/Split Rock as one of my local courses for years and never had any complaint. The staff is friendly and courteous.
Course conditions are usually good to excellent depending on the time of the season.
This was a winter golf round (42*F and a little windy & sunny) as this is one of the few courses open, weather permitting (meaning when not snow covered) in the Winter (Jan Feb)
Greens were very puttable for January and the fairways had enough turf to keep playing off of grass if you move your ball when needed - after all those are Winter Rules, During regular golf season these courses are in plenty good shape.
Enjoyable classic muni
Nice layout. Wide fairways. Some great greens and good bunkering for a muni. Nic layout.
Great Course WORST PACE OF PLAY AND PLAYING PARTNERS!
I consider this my home course. I love the staff, the layout and the value of the course. HOWEVER my Uncle and I were put with 2 walkers who decided that every rule had to be followed. Mind you we went out at 10:46 am. The place was packed and we had to deal with two men who didn't want to play "ready golf" and who decided to look for every ball that got lost in the leaves. Just drop a ball and don't take a stroke!
Sucked because I really love this place, however being paired with slow players and being stuck behind a foursome who thinks they are on the PGA tour really sours things. The ranger drove bus 3 times but didn't seem to be engaged or aware of what was going on on the course.
Excellent course, near NYC
Nice layout, 4 hour round on a Saturday. Close to NYC
Great track
For a public course. In the Bronx, no less.
Split Rock. Challenging track and great layout design. Bring bug spray
Lucky to have an early morning tee time on a weekend so the notoriously slow pace wasn't a factor this time. This course is one of my favorites due to its layout which will make you use just about all your clubs in your bag. Playing from the back, tee shots must be placed well and accurate as well.
Condition wise, the course has seen better days. I know this and a Pelham gets a ton of play but that means it should have enough funds to keep it in decent shape. The sister course (Pelham) is even worst. Anyway, since this place is a cash cow course maintenance isn't the highest priority.
Split rock
First time playing split rock this year in terrible condition
Great day for a round
the weather was wonderful, so we headed out to our favorite public course. unfortunately so did everyone else. the course is usually long to play or slow paced. this Saturday it was beyond a snail pace. there was a wait to tee off and about a 10 to 15 minute wait per hole. this was exceptionally long due to two outings booked on the same day. but it caused unusual delays all the same. the fairways were well kept, but a few of the greens were beat up. no Bueno.
all and all a fine day but we ended up having to pack it in after the 14th due to darkness.
Fun course with wide open fairways. Bring bug spray
My god, played this track just over two weeks earlier and man does it make a difference. I've seen this course in pristine conditions so it's really shocking to see the shape it's in now. Teeboxes, and a good portion of fairways were beaten up and pretty much sandboxes. Greens weren't in the best of shape but still rolled ok and actually playable. If it wasn't for the location, friendly staff and great specials this place has, I can't imagine anyone paying full price to play here.
Fun course with wide open fairways. Bring bug spray
Fun course, forgiving on tee shots. I known this place gets a ton of play but that should mean it has enough funding to maintain it in decent conditions. Most tee boxes were dirt/sand boxes and greens (more sand boxes) rolled horrible. Fairways were no better. With course conditions, this place is hit or miss. Not complaining too much because they give great specials with lunch and carts during the weekdays. I can't imagine paying full price to play here. Staff is always friendly and give you warning during check in. Place is a cash cow but they to show concern towards customers. And last, bring bug spray.
A great day ruined
INot enough space to share my SADNESS in playing the course today. Our 10:00 tee time went out at 10:45 due to a morning outing running late. On the 9th hole the ranger drove up to our group yelling we were holding up the course ( someone needs anger management class). Truth was he had another outing waiting to go out and he had several groups still out on the course due to the late start. Three hours to play the front nine. So we get to the 10th tee to find we are the fourth, yes, the fourth group waiting to tee off. We opted to head to the Pro Shop to complain to the GM only to find he/she was no where to be found (hiding maybe). The only positive point I can add was our lunch was delicious. Think twice about playing this course as they seem to be more concerned about overbooking tee times than customer satisfaction.
I grew up playing the two courses. So sad to hear this.
