Fairways were in good shape two green were damaged Photo submitted by phischman on 08/07/2013
Nice day of golf
Overall a nice course. But not 100% well maintained...edges of bunkers very rough, greens with a lot of debris from trees.
Challenging greens with lots of slope sometimes. The it self... not very challenging, not that much hazards, greens not that well protected...
It was a nice day and we enjoyed a lot, but if I would recommend the course...
Probably not.
Nice course, slow round
The course was in nice shape, the greens are a lot of fun and very challenging. The pace of play was a little over 5 1/2 hours. My tee time was 10:20 and we hit at 10:34
Split Rock
Nice wide open course in great condition. Great course to try out the new driver. Mostly flat with a blind tee shot or two. I would definitely play at 3:22 again since there was no one else out there.
Don't even bother going on the weekends.
What's the point of making a tee time and showing up early for that if the course is backed up by 5 foursomes in front of you? They have no clue how to run a golf course and they don't care. No idea how to enforce pace of play. They have zero insight on the use of Rangers or starters. The staff excuse to why they were 5 groups behind at 10am was that there was a group that went out at 8am and they were hacks and really slow. Unreal. Make excuses instead of fixing a problem. A real golf course will check pace in groups and if there is a problem they will have someone pickup and move to the next hole.
Don't waste $70 to play here. So much better off either paying a little bit more for a nice course or driving a further away from NYC for the same. It's not even a quiet relaxing location - all you hear are cars and trucks zooming by the entire time.
Getting better all the time.
Split rock and Pelham GCs are notorious for 5.5 to 6 hour rounds usually attributed to walk ups being let out in a money grab ,novice players looking for balls or drinking excessively and not caring about etiquette on course. At the end of last season I began to see a change in staffs vigor to get it right. All we need now is a few Rangers who are willing to move people when play is slow and split rock Pelham will be tough courses to turn down. Course conditions other then the work on greens were excellent for this time of year.
7 Hour Round
Outside of the sand filled greens, the course was in pretty good shape. The thing that stands out the most about our round was the incredibly slow pace of play. This was a 7 hour round with stacked tee times (every 5 mins) and a lack of ranger presence. The only time we interacted with the ranger was when he asked us to fill the gap on a par 4 on our second shot, where the individuals in front of us were just exiting the green. I wouldn't say that it is worth the $70 round, especially if the pace of play is better at other Westchester courses at less expensive prices.
Very slow play
Tee off was 20 minutes late and never picked up. We dropped off after nine. Not interested in 6 hrs of golf. Greens were beyond slos
Overview
Split Rock 18 hole course is pretty good. Nice experience for my first time play considering I've played at Pelham before. Looking forward to going back again .
Tuesdays are slow
Tuesdays have the discounted rate so it gets crowded. The 2 groups in front of me each had 3 carts and 5 guys and they seemed to be together. They were very slow, it took an hour to play 3 holes, rangers did nothing. Also had to wait for a cart before my round because they were all out already.
unannouced aerated greens
got it on Golfnow for $70 on a beautiful friday to play this course based on good ratings from golfers. most of the greens had been just aerated. They could have notified.
good course in area of new york city
fairways and greens are nice, pace of play should be a litte faster
This was a wide open field with very nice greens
This was the second time I played was pelham and had a very nice time with my buddy. The weather was also nice but the field was great with vary wide green which help me since I didn't loose many balls. My only complain was the golf cart# 32 which died out on our 10th hole but after calling the front desk they had another cart out to us about 20 minutes later. Over all had a good time and can't wait to go back again.
Good NYC course for a great value
Pelham Bay is a solid city course that won't blow you away but will provide an enjoyable round for a great value. It's wide open so you can spray your drives yet recover for par or bogey fairly easily.
The greens rolled true
Greens were nice. Fairways were ok. The staff wasn't to Informative about their policies.
This course is very challenge
Good condition, very kindly,#1 course in metro city
Typical East Coast golf course
Very flat, narrow, short.May not be a challenging course for a single-handy capper, but very enjoyable for an average golfer. Those golfers who are looking for more challenges should try Split Rock next to each other.
Great Start to Labor Day Weekend
Nice open course to play.. the pace was perfect for front nine.. There was some backup in the back nine but nothing that was extremely unbearable. Great time for the value.
Beautiful Golf Course
I like Split Rock better than Pelham, scenery is a lot nicer as is the golf course. My low rating of rate of play had nothing to do with course, but I had a group in front of me that did not care of pace they were playing and the Ranger didn't do much to help. The food rating is due to at the turn, you can only get a burger or hotdog and drink, which is really ok with me.
Other than the group in front of me, I had yet another wonderful time at Split Rock
Nice course
Nice course
Good greens and fairways.
Some bunkers was a bit wet
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
I was going to write my own review, instead I'll just agree with this person. Tee times are only a suggestion, the 'starters' are just retired cop/firefighter ticket takers there for free golf for themselves. Rangers? They just think that's a NY sports team. If they cared, they'd hire 6 huge former bar bouncers, teach them the game, and let them keep play going. I bet people might then even rake the bunkers! Sad, because I like the courses, Split could be a top 10 course in the state if they tried. I'd compare Bethpage Black layout. Really. Unfortunately it's American Golf at its worst, and they don't seem to care. Too bad because they now have the money to make things better since the clubhouse remodel is now done. Gene and John in the clubhouse do a nice job, but they can only do so much.
