Terrible course. Should be closed.
Tee boxes were all sand and dirt. No grass. Golf carts were filthy and probably hadn’t been cleaned in months. When we finished our round at 1:30 people were waiting for carts. The course doesn’t have enough of them. Cart paths were rutted and full of potholes. The course has no restrooms except in the pro shop. Course design is very basic. No interesting holes. Greens are sandy and not well kept.
Conditions have worsened over the last month
Dyker was in good shape, all things considered, in the late spring and early summer. But the conditions have severely worsened over the past month or so. Weeds are beginning to overtake fairways, tee boxes are devoid of grass, and the greens are rolling like concrete sidewalks. Approach shots weren’t biting and putts were rolling much faster - and not in a good way - than usual.
Worst Conditioned Course in City
There is no fairway. Only seeded low cut grass that has absolutely no softness. Good shots to fairway are not rewarded and instead penalized by hitting off of something that feels like a pool table. Greens are dirt with some grass sprinkled in, literally patchy grass and black dirt. Tee boxes are patchy grass covered in a layer of sand. On top of that, a worker ran over my ball with a lawnmower, chopping off the top of it. The ball was in the second cut, highly visible. This is not a course worth the convenience of its location, and certainly not worth $70+ for a round.
Tough month for turf
Course remains a real good layout, pace of play was remarkably good, and a proper mix of challenging / accessible hole locations. Turf at the moment is less than ideal. Played back in early July and the course was better than I remembered from the past (been playing Dyker on and off for 35 years). Recently top-dressed greens (sand was pretty grainy) showed signs of significant wilt and some disease. Same stressed turf in many fairways. If you roll it over in short grass it's not a problem. I bet the conditions will improve as cooler weather settles in this fall.
I'll make the trip to Dyker if I want to hit more than Driver / wedge on par fours. Dyker requires hitting most of the clubs in the bag, especially if the wind is blowing off the water. Staff is great. Hot weather and less traffic likely the reasons for unusually quick pace.
Course conditions unacceptable
The course today was in poor condition and it’s really unacceptable. It did not look like it was cut or groomed in days and the green was dried out. Balls were getting lost in the fair way and the rough was way too long. This caused the pace of play to be very slow and a lot of balls getting lost. I would like a refund for how bad it was today. It doesn’t look like I will go back there.
Greens & tee boxes... disaster
Overall, I really like playing at Dyker. However, lately the greens have been in horrendous condition (more brown than green) and tee boxes are just elevated sandtraps at this point. Has great potential if kept up as well as it had been at the beging of the season, but now its just frustrating.
Two good words about Dyker: Near Manhattan!
The course is not in great shape (the fairways are messed up and greens are somewhat green). But it is close to the Manhattan and you are out on a golf course. We got there around 4 pm and we able to get in 18 only because it started raining for about 20 minutes and it cleared out the golf course. Otherwise nine is an accomplishment!
There are all types of golfers on the course and you never know if anyone will call "FORE" after an errant shot. I belong to private course and I enjoy playing there, but I have no problem playing a Dyker. Its always fun even when you are playing behind characters, which you most likely will be. I guess that's what gives it that special charm.
Horrible condition
The course has slowly turned worse and worse. Beautiful layout and lots of great views in the middle of a Brooklyn To bad they dont take care of it anymore.
Disaster
- 5+ hour round
- waited on every tee box
- water coolers empty at 930am (their way of making money on a 90 degree day.. 3$ for a bottle of water)
- tee boxes are dirt and not level
- greens are super slow and the grass length is inconsistent
- people who play this course have no sense of golf edict
- waste of 75 dollars. Do yourself a favor and don’t play here. There are plenty of other courses in this price range that are way better.
- for the quality of this course the greens fees should be 30$ course has no amenities what so ever. No range, a small practice green with no sand trap.
- awful....
Horrific and incompetent management
90 plus degrees and they can’t keep the coolers filled with weather on the course. I call religiously every weekend while on the course to complain and they just don’t seem to care and think it’s ok to have customers suffer in the heat. Management needs to be fired and replaced. Unconscionable!
Very Nice Course
Dyker is a very nice, manageable course. You can shoot a good score, but it has interesting and challenging holes too. We had great weather, fair pace of play.
Course in good shape. Pace of play ruins the day.
Course is well kept. Greens are a bit slow but still in good shape. But a 5+ hour round is still unbearable. Nothing a ranger couldn’t help but the munis never seem to keep one on staff.
SLOW PLAY
Course was fine. The pace of play was nearly 3 hours for 9 holes.
The was no Marshall to move people along.
Great way to spend the day
Pace of play was a little slower but it was also very busy for the 4th of july. Great course with slightly narrow greens
Surprising
I have played this course at various times, and I was pleasantly surprised. The greens were in much better condition than I expected, and starter was super helpful and friendly. I am going to give higher than average. Some items of note: tee boxes still need work. But I think it has more to do with cutting trees to help to get more sun as opposed to mgmt not taking care of it. Carts need to be upgraded, and if not just cleaner. But overall for a closest muni course to downtown Manhattan, I would give higher end of 3 stars. Course is sneaky long and tougher back nine.
Late start
Groups ahead of us did not know how to play golf cart golf. As a result only played 14 holes. Not bad for public golf Nice views pretty course.
