Another long day on the course...
A good course and nice layout. Mike the starter is a good man. Unfortunately, packed in on Saturday like an italian tuna in a can. No rangers out and about to work on speed of play. For the first 8, not 9, but 8 holes, we ran 3h20m. For the total 18 we ran at 6h32m. At tee boxes starting at #8, we were backed up 3 and 4 four-somes at a time.
On top of it, we had a group of 20 something Williamsburgh j-offs who tee-d off at 1124am hitting up on us and over our heads as we were walking on the greens. Needless to say, I don't believe they found their balls unless they went to the bushes or along 7th avenue.
I enjoy the course but it's a tough one to get people to agree to come back to.
Great Layout, but it ends there...
Honestly, this course has probably the best layout of all NYC public courses, staff is friendly for the most part. Now it’s all down hill from there as the people that play here are the perfect example of why you should not marry your cousin, I’ll leave the rest to your imagination, these kids form of education is watching goodfellas & The Godfather...retardation in Dyker/Bensonhurst is a epidemic....
Packed course
Course is great and I have played many times. It is always a full course. A line waiting for your tee time. I’m ok with actually, I am not in a rush.
Plus the day I went there was a golf outing that day. So makes sense.
Dyker Beach
Solid course layout, course is in terrible condition but I played in February. No frills pro shop, no range. Small practice green available.
Course is easy to navigate, tee boxes are close to greens on the previous hole. I played with a group of great guys who regularly play at Dyker beach and say how the course is completely different in the summer due to the trees blooming, higher grass etc. I also understand the pace of play during the season is slow at best, it is one of the most played courses in the country. I will try to play there at some point this season.
Good but green tough
Good course ,staff are kind
Fair ok, vreen not good
If green good , fantastic course
Mr
Lots of good fun . Needed some marshals to speed up play
What’s the point of a tee time?
Booked a 12:00 tee time for two and did not tee off until 1:20. There were 5 groups ahead of us on the 1st tee box and they clearly overbooked the course. The pace of play was a joke and we ended up leaving after 13 at almost 6pm. It’s a shame since the course is in good shape, but definitely never playing here again.
Delay Slow Slow
Decent muni course BUT they consistently overbook and bump tee times, not telling you in advance. I had an 11:15 booking, was bumped for a “late group outing.” Teed off at 12:40, finished a ridiculously slow round at 5:50pm. Five hour plus round after a 90min delay?! Disgraceful.
Late and slow
Teed off 30 minutes late and played in 6 hours. No drinking water in the many jugs. One green (11) was unplayable. Several fairways were just dirt with a few clumps of grass.
Great day ! Great round !
Had a great time , course was good and played with three really cool guys
Friendly Staff!!
My first time there , Pro shop was very friendly and explained course layout . Course was in great shape and great layout! will play here more often!!
David
Having a friendly Ranger moving play along is a positive.
Greens suck
Greens terrible shape also no ones fixes pitch marks and groundskeepers decided to aerate one green while we were teeing off.
A fine example of a good NYC muni course
This updates my prior review and adds a few more pictures. This course has some nice features and variety. Doglegs, elevated par-3s,, tiered and well-contoured greens, a mix of long and short par-4s. The property rolls nicely without being severe and the undulations are woven into the golf holes in a good way. Most holes give you plenty of room off the tee. The back 9 has a couple of quirky holes and some simple back and forth, but overall this a a classic old-school, easily walkable, interesting golf course.
