Pity the bar closed early
An excellent find this course. Proves you don't have to be long to be challenging. Plenty to think about with bumps, hollows and greens in excellent condition.
Many holes under 400 yards, but you need to think about position off the tee.
Greens were rolling true, but had some hidden slopes that made you look twice at the line.
For £20 a round, this course is excellent value to play.
We finished about 6pm and there was nothing in the clubhouse, it was closed. Sahme as we would have liked to sample the apres golf,,
Bonnyton
I’m a really windy day and finding the course for my first round here on top of a hill I knew it would be a stiff challenge.
The greeting from the pro was first class. Explaining the house facilities and the pace of play etc was superb. He could not of been more helpful.
On teeing off on the first I was immediately aware of a stiff challenge. Raised greens and elevation changes were immediately apparent. It was a shame that course maintenance had taken place and a few damaged cups but it didn’t deter from a good challenge.
Overall the par 5 holes were fun and tricky short par 4’s. A great day out.
I can highly recommend this for a day out. A hidden gem in all senses of the term.
Very friendly club. Course in excellent condition.
Challenging course. Greens super fast. Need your short game to be on point.
Fantastic views and brilliant design.
A very friendly welcome at the course. This is a super course that I would thoroughly recommend. Greens were super fast when I played which probably cost a few shots.
Sunday golf with friends
We played a 4 ball and we were all very impressed with the condition of the course, it’s exceptionally well looked after.
A hilltop gem
This course is both challenging and rewarding . The layout is tremendous making great use of the hilltop location. Buggy hire would be great, didn't see any . 1 tip , get good insect spray / lotion .
Leave till later
General course condition was reasonable for early season golf. Fairways were a little bare, lacking growth, tees were uneven and they put you off from the very front. Bunkers were in good shape but the big drawback was the greens. They were heavily sanded and spiked, lumpy and lacking any growth. Almost impossible to putt properly. They need at least another month before they will be playable. Clubhouse service and food was first.
class. A course to go back to in the summer perhaps.
Enjoyable
Excellent golf course. Suited my eye and shot shape (draw). long narrow fairways but also forgiving. Small elevated greens with true roll. Well placed Water hazards and Augusta like trees. Would love to play it in summer to get it at its best.
Rain Has Its Benefits!
We played on a fairly blustery Thursday, with intermittent heavy showers.
That meant we more or less had the course to ourselves so were able to play at our own rate. The course was in excellent condition - both fairways and greens - considering the poor weather.
Thoroughly enjoyable round and my son who plays off 28 found it a fair test too.
It's a shame a lot of the trees have had to be taken down due to disease but I remember the course back in the 1980s when the trees were just growing and the newly planted ones will hopefully do the same job in years to come.
Lovely course but members pace was abysmal
Course layout is enjoyable, overall condition is very good with a few burnt patches following the recent dry weather.
Greens in very good condition, pacey although a little inconsistent.
However, the round was poor due to the slow pace of a group of members in a 4-ball. Tee-d off 45 mins before us and we were a 3-ball that took 4 and half hours stuck behind them. Group also ignored a lot of the course guidance in terms of leaving groups behind tee-off before taking the green, etc.
Highly Recommended
Have played Bonnyton once before despite not living far from the course. The last time I played the weather wasn't great so was a bit of a slog. This time we played in mid June and the course was in magnificent shape. The greens were fast and in great condition. The course is a fair test with a few tricky holes. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be back in the near future.
