Leven Links Golf Course

About
Golf has been played at Leven Links Golf Course since 1846, making it one of the oldest clubs in the world. It has a unique landscape of parallel dune ridges that provides the ideal setting for links golf. The slopes and undulations of the terrain are used throughout the golf course, including the fairways that were molded from the valleys created by the dunes. The prevailing winds that blow through the course are often another challenging factor that is added to the game. The first four holes, all par 4s, play long but as the holes continue they become more up-and-down. The golf course opens with a tricky hole where the green sits on a ridge plateau and it finishes with what some have boasted is one of the best finishing holes in the country. It is another difficult par 4 with a burn stretching across the front of the green.

Choose Leven Links
One of the best links courses that lve played over the past few months, course set up was difficult but fair , it was in great condition, and the weather favourable with the cool westerly breeze, staff and members made us very welcome, a great visit!. Great value for money.
Great golf course
Had a great 4 ball on this fantastic golf course
Staff were friendly and even although covid restrictions were in place made it feel as normal as you could expect
Greens were perfect, of I had to find fault it would be the fairways condition on some holes but preferred lies were in place ,only reason I didn't award 5 stars
Excellent
Really good round at Leven Links, greens were superb and general conditions first class, even after some recent poor weather.
Friendly staff in pro shop and would recommend as one of the best courses in the area.
Terrible condition
The course condition was shocking. It was almost Impossible to distinguish between rough and fairway, at times you just had no idea what direction to drive in.. The fairways were shocking condition. Green were acceptable. Many better courses than this for much less cost. Some of the design of holes were just crazy, first hole is bizarre par four with no fairway that was obvious to hit.
Not worth the money
The course layout is awful! People walking about walking their dogs, teeing off right next to a caravan park, some sort of farm next to the 6th with a big squeaky gate on your back swing! Not the place for a quiet, private round of golf
Great layout
Some really interesting holes with virtually no two holes being alike. Great links test. Preferred the layout to Lundin Links across the wall.
Great value for money - the course only being let down by patchy fairways and greens at the moment which may be down to lack of maintenace during the past few months.
Leven links
Course is in great condition and greens are amazingly fast for this time of the year with all the rain that’s fell this month .
Staff in shop were very friendly including the old guy keeping him company
Not what was expected
Very busy on the day hence slow play . Missed the last two holes as we lost interest.
For an open qualifying course it was poor quality and we thought the terrain was not true links . Lundin links over the wall looked in better condition.
Sorry but have no intention of returning .
Enjoyable course
Well layed out course which presents a good challenge, let down only slightly by the condition of the fairways and greens compared to its neighbour at lundin, overall enjoyable and would recommend
Leven Links
Great course and really friendly locals both staff and patrons
The genuine article
You want a traditional links course? You will find it here. Warm welcome from the staff and a pleasant, traditional 19th hole to follow.
fine layout average condition
this is a traditional links well laid out and interesting. It is early season but fairways are poor and need growth- other courses nearby such as Lundin Links looked better. It could do with money spent on it to improve bunker faces. Greens putted well. The gorse has been cut back too much and loses a bit of the character of the course. Locals all very friendly and as a two ball round in 3 hours and not held up.
Classic test
Cold windy day edging into the dead of winter. Expectations are not high. We had been advised that the fairways had suffered due to the intense summer sun and evedence of it was clear. However preferring our lie cleared up any of the damage issues easily. Even in the face of this they still ran great and the surface quality is a joy to hit off, and the sound!
If the fairways suffered the greens certainly hadn’t! Just outstanding for anytime of year especially now. True fast and at times vast!
The layout is the real star however. The undulations of the topography make for distinct lines off tees and huddled guarded Greens with testing run offs. Just ticks all the boxes of a classic links.
Now If only I could hit it 190 off the deck into the wind.
Great holes, shame about course condition
As an Open Championship qualifying course our expectations were high, and there are certainly some lovely Links holes, but the course was in pretty poor condition, really showing many signs of a poor grass growing summer. To be fair it looked like a lot of remedial work was taking place, with extensive re-seeding, but I’m afraid it will be some time before golfers benefit. Greens were in better condition than fairways and tees, but still not as true and smooth as I’d expected.
For a week day in October the course was still busy and play slow, 4 hours for a two ball. In summary, disappointing and even at reduced greefees not good value, I hope to return when the course has recovered.
