Balbirnie Park Golf Course
About
Balbirnie Park Golf Club serves as a prime example of a traditional parkland design with a layout that follows the natural contours of the land very closely. The gently rolling landscape lends some interest to the course but the undulations are invitingly gentle rather than being overly difficult. Long hitters will really shine on the golf course since it greatly rewards straight shots with some distance. Golfers should beware though, it is a tricky layout that punishes errant shots with thick rough and densely wooded areas. Balbirnie Park Golf Club finishes with what is arguably the most challenging hole. This par 5 requires two strokes, both blind to the hole, to lay-up before a heavily protected putting surface situated in front of the clubhouse. There are bunkers to the right and a large tree to the left as well as a burn that runs along the entire front of the green.

Great Course
First time playing balbirnie, course was well kept and in great condition. Course layout good, nice variety of holes. Pace of play was good for the most part, there was a group of 3 in front who didn’t let me play through.
Overall a great course, will be back to play again.
Fine round at Balbirnie
Enjoyable first round of the year. Chose Balbirnie and course was in good condition. Still off winter mats and some holes shorter but didn't spoil any enjoyment.
Managed a lower score but not sure if down to god luck, some fine putting early on (lol) or my new driver adding a bit of distance.
Fine afternoon and will be back in the slightly warmer weather
Great course and fun to play. Course was in very good condition and got to play it without rain. Very hilly course so I enjoyed walking. This is a great value course and do not miss playing it.
Truly enjoyed the layout and course. A+++
Balbirnie must to play
very nice golf course, sloppy push or pull cart recommended, long one but nice forest and good layout.
It was a little wet but greens very well kept.
Balbirnie golf course, a must
Very challenging golf course, requires good physical condition or take a cart. Sloppy, and long, beautiful scenario and tall forest. You really enjoy walking and the view.
Try not to do it after rainy days… drainage like everywhere.
Friendly place to play
Friendly staff, got an excellent deal to play with buggy. Course in great summer condition for time of year. Interesting layout, a great place to spend a day.
Great workout
Wonderful country park course with a lot of challenges. Quite hilly all round, greens in good condition.
Loved the course. Varied and in great condition for mid October. Slow play due to large group ahead who weren’t raking bunkers
Lovely staff in the clubhouse and loos were spotless
Will be back!
Avoid for the next three weeks
Played today and unfortunately the greens have been cored. This is a pet hate of mine and the Golf Pass system, how difficult is it to inform the customer of invasive maintenance work in advance of purchase? I get that this isn’t a dealbreaker for some but I certainly wouldn’t have wasted a 70 mile round trip to play today.
I play here now an again and under normal conditions the course is enjoyable. Playably open from the tee, with a couple of tighter drives to keep it interesting. The majority of the par 4’s and 5’s have a bit of shape.
The layout is quite undulating, particularly on the front nine, there’s also a bit of ground to cover between tees.
The clubhouse is good, decent fairly priced food and friendly service.
Worth a game but not just at the minute.
Not a bad wee track
Played Balbirnie today for the first and it was a decent track. The front nine are a bit bland for me with the back nine having a more picturesque look about it. It is a fair course though, and like other courses, if you can keep it in play you will score well. The fairways are generous in certain areas and the bunkers are some of the best I’ve experienced on an inland course, the sand is terrific and very consistent. Pace of play was great, as was the pro in the shop. Me and my playing partner found the greens in very good condition, but for some reason the fairways were very wet. Not sure if they had a lot of rain and it doesn’t drain well, but it feels very similar to Murrayshall in that regard underfoot. The course would suit any golfer scratch or high handicap, as it does give you a chance. Just bear in mind the front nine is a bit hilly, so maybe a buggy would be a good idea if you struggle round sometimes. I enjoyed the day and would encourage everyone to give Balbirnie a go for this price on golfnow.
Outstanding, sheltered, woodland course.
Great value through Golf Now. Friendly staff. Course in great condition with amazing landscape and importantly, shelter from the wind.
A Local Favourite
Thanks to GolfNow, along with 3 regular golfing friends, I play Balbirnie every year. Safe to say, it is one of our favourite 'away' days. The course is very fairly set up and, despite our handicaps varying quite considerably, it is a course that we all enjoy. While the weather was virtually perfect when we played, I could imagine it being considerably more challenging if played during less favourable conditions. The course was possibly in the best condition that I have seen with the greens in particular in excellent condition. They were a bit slower than my own course but consistent through all 18 holes. We all had a roll and coffee before playing, which was very good and excellent value. Already have it pencilled in for next year!
Great course. Would recommend
Really enjoyed this course from the moment we call up to book the service was good. And the course didn't disappoint. Great layout and was in excellent condition
Great layout
This course was a great layout
Greens were spot on as were the bunkers
Pro staff very. Friendly but bar staff not too friendly
Beautiful layout and Course Condition
The course is in very good condition during summer.
It was all worth it. Back 9 was tricky and tougher than the front. Will come back for sure.
