Rating 70.2

Nestled in the rolling hills of Gold Country, Apple Mountain Resort has a dramatic landscape that provides plenty of elevation changes, making it a nearly impossible course to walk. Some of the drops from tee to green are unbelievable, offering unrivaled views of the surrounding mountains. Nearly every hole enjoys a stunning backdrop. The incredibly diverse terrain makes the golf course a challenge regardless of whether you are a novice or a pro. Golfers will have to contend with mature trees, water hazards, and numerous strategically placed bunkers in addition to the uneven lies and blind shots that are a result of the undulating landscape. Apple Mountain Resort's golf course is especially nice to play in the summer since its location enjoys a temperature that is at least a few degrees cooler than the Sacramento Valley.

All you have to do is walk from the golf cart to the ball, and only a few holes are cart path only. You're not doing any rock climbing, but yes, there are hills, it's in the foothills. This is a wonderful course but yes, it is challenging. A must play for players with a handicap of 18 or less.

Golf in the Woods

Beautiful mountain course, lots of hills, just a beautiful fun place to play 18 holes. You will lose a few balls into the woods, but keep your drives straight and this is a fun course. Quite hilly and I believe they require ;you use a cart which is quite necessary given the steep slopes.

Beautiful Views but Too Hard to play!

My first thought after playing several holes ... who on earth thought this was a good place to put a golf course!?? Although the scenery is wonderful and the course was maintained well ... the playability was just a bit ridiculous. Some of the landing areas were TINY ... that is if you could even figure out WHERE they were. Too many blind shots and hazards you just didn't know were there until after your shot. It is definitely not a course for us "older" folks. The course is just TOO STEEP to be playable in my opinion and there are too many ravines and hidden hazards. Also lots of walking up and down very steep slopes ... and that's with a cart. It's beautiful and maybe you should go ONCE just to experience it. I'm afraid we won't be coming back though. Looking at the course ratings on the score card ... you've got to be kidding. The course is rated way easier than it should be.

The course is challenging place to work on shot selection and clubs to use.

The course was in great shape considering 3 weeks ago it was under snow. Staff was friendly and accomidating. Beautiful weather great playing comditions. Will go back. Only down fall was having to play behind group that spent more time looking for their lost balls then playing would not recommend to new learning golfers.

Beautiful but tough

Course was in excellent shap, play slowed by holes where no carts on fairway, tough course if haven't played , course knowledge a must, lots of uphill, downhill lies. Greens seemed slow but lots of uphill putts left short.

This is a beautiful course and worth the playing if not for the sights and sounds and mountain fresh air alone.

Great course if it was thawed out. Ball bounced off of greens like it hit a driveway.

Beautiful mountain view course. Pace of play was good. Unfortunately we played in January so greens hadn't been mowed in a while, bunkers weren't raked and the course was frozen in many spots. Balls bounced off half of the greens like it was a concrete driveway. Overall it was a challenging course but don't expect to hit driver on very many holes. Course played really short from back tees.

Beautiful views of the snow cap sierras.

Perfect day for golf, sunny 50 degrees, but we forgot about the elivation. There was snow on some of the fairways, ice on others.Be very careful driving carts. All in All we had a great time love this course and the people who run it are great. Also if you go at this time when its cold, watch out for hole 15,par3 both me and my son hit it within 15 feet of the flag but the green was totaly frozen and bounced up and over the green.

Frozen solid.

Temporary green on 11. Frozen greens and fairways. Wait to play this one until it thaws out. Approach shots hit the green and bounce 15 feet into the air. Not their fault but not ready for play.

Unique and enjoyable layout with plenty of variety on the holes. Great pace of play. Very good value for the price

Great mountain course with plenty of variety on the holes. Numerous options off the tee and a fun thinking man's course. Layout doesn't beat you up with length but plenty of challenge from a course management perspective. Due to time of year, wet and cart part only with some mud balls and plugging

Little soggy from the rains but as usual a gorgeous day at this place as always.

Love this place!
Pace was very slow as the group in front of us liked to take practice swings 25 times a hole before driving into the trees! Why not practice swing once if your hitting into trees anyway? Hint Hint! There are others playing behind you! :-) I got a nap before each tee off! We had a 3some me , my wife (plays 1 time a year) and my son. The group in front of us had 2 guys in their 30/40's and we rode their butts all day from their "rude" tactics.

No issues ever with the course (other than it's tough) or with the staff or location. A must play of all!

I love this course, but it always beats me up!

We played on a day where it was cart path only which is really tough out there, but the course is always beautiful, as are the views. I think it's all about course management there, you almost have to play it twice. The first time to make all the mistakes, the second to try to correct them! I've played there many times and despite it's toughness, it's always been one of my favorites.

Apple Mountain is still in great shape

Obviously the weather was so perfect, which made our golf game very enjoyable. Beautiful scenery and the course was in great condition. The greens played a little tough to read, but for the most part were very fair.

Beware High Handicapers

This is one on my favorite courses. Unless your into marathons, don't even think of walking. If your not a very straight hitter, bring lots of balls.

Great course, terrible pin locations

Pins were put in the worst, and unfair, locations possible, intentionally. Per the pro shop, they do this for Halloween, or something. They may think it funny, but I didn't find anything funny about multiple 3, 4, and even 5 putts! Wouldn't play it again with these pin locations.
