About
Nestled in the rolling hills of Gold Country, Apple Mountain Resort has a dramatic landscape that provides plenty of elevation changes, making it a nearly impossible course to walk. Some of the drops from tee to green are unbelievable, offering unrivaled views of the surrounding mountains. Nearly every hole enjoys a stunning backdrop. The incredibly diverse terrain makes the golf course a challenge regardless of whether you are a novice or a pro. Golfers will have to contend with mature trees, water hazards, and numerous strategically placed bunkers in addition to the uneven lies and blind shots that are a result of the undulating landscape. Apple Mountain Resort's golf course is especially nice to play in the summer since its location enjoys a temperature that is at least a few degrees cooler than the Sacramento Valley.

Golfer Reviews
Challenging Greens!
This was a beautiful course (especially on a lovely fall day). We found it incredibly challenging, especially with respect to the greens. They are all sloped and extremely fast. So, if you are looking for a lovely golf outing with a good challenge, Apple Mountain is a good bet!
Beautiful and too challenging for me
This course during the fall looks like it's straight out of a calendar or postcard. It's visually the nicest course in the area. However, unless you're a good player it's probably going to be too frustrating. I shoot in the low 90s usually and shooting a 102 here was a struggle. The greens are FAST!! Several times we would putt very cautiously only to have our ball roll straight off the green.
beautiful setting
there are no yardage markers except 150 and most of the holes you are hitting into blind greens and no idea of the yardage, can't see the green or pin & no idea what club to use. would be better if played a few times.
Beautiful course/Excellent maintenance
Challenging course, but can be scored on. Greens are like putting on your kitchen tabletop; #17 on the edge of unfairness. Beautiful course..."Tip Card" comes in very handy! Enjoy the scenery, because some of the holes can get frustrating!
Very unique course layout
Cut out of the forest so you never see another fairway! Multiple elevated tees and greens (sometimes on the same hole!!) Not possible to walk this course. Great experience and showcase for out-of-town guests. Greens large, fast and tiered.
great location and great course
great layout with better views. greens were in great condition, hard and fast, slope is very high and pins were in great places, downhill putts would not stay close. i would return very soon. practice facility was great. club house is very country but burger was great. got an apple pie from the farms after so that was a plus. well worth the drive.
all excellent, except....
we love playing at apple mountain. however, in the 10 times that we have played there, one of two scenarios is present. either it is a wonderful round, or we spend 20 minutes per hole, usually standing mid fairway, waiting to play. we think that the degree of difficulty slows many players to a crawl. unfortunately, this is not our idea of a pleasureful round of golf.
on two occasions, we left the course after only 9 holes, having paid for 18.
AWESOME!!!!
AWESOME!!!! This is a GREAT course. Sure hope one day I can develop the skill to conquer this course! Love it!!
Challenging but fair.
Awesome day at Apple Mountain. Perfect weather and the course was in perfect condition. Major bonus was the terrific views that this course presents. Great staff too.
beautiful
great value beautiful course good staff and facilities
Beautiful setting. Not an easy par 71.
I only had two issues with this course. 1.) The pin placements were somewhat challenging, so it definitely slowed down play, and there were no rangers on the course to speed up the play. 2.) The second issue was that there were not enough yardage markers, and with most of the greens being elevated, it was very important to know your exact yardage.
Interesting but diferent kind of golf
My foursome played at Apple Mountain on a Tuesday in September 2013, with a starting time around 10:30. The driving range and putting green were in good condition, The staff was friendly, the carts were fine. The snack bar offered a fairly comprehensive menu (hot dogs to ceasar salad wraps to fish and chips) and the upstairs bar had Gunness on tap, which my group applauds.
The course has more and greater elevation changes than any I have ever played. This makes picking the right club fairly difficult, and means you have to be prepared to play from uneven lies. Most of the greens are highly sloped, which is double difficult because they are cut into the mountains. I finished with 35 putts, and felt fortunate to do so.They provide a hole by hole guide with suggestions on how to play each hole which is helpful. My recommendation is to shoot for the flat lies as much as possilbe. There is one very short par three (under 100 yds) to a forward pin, the rest are great holes.
Beautiful Setting, Challenging Play
The course surroundings are amazing, beautiful and very relaxing. This is a great get away from the hustle and bustle of life and enjoy nature. The course is well maintained with groomed greens that allow the ball to roll true. It is, however, very challenging, especially the first time around the course. Many holes require lay up shot from the tee to set up turns or to keep out of hazards. There are many up hill and down hill shots. I loved the mixture of long holes and short par 3's. I will definitely play it again and again.
Challenging
Super fun to play with elevated greens and T boxes. Must have fairly accurate drives off the T's as some of the fairways are narrow and/or sloping. Also, must be able to clear sensitive areas on some of your drives.
Not recommended for the player who can't get his/her ball flight up and over obstacles.
Short course & fun
It was fun to play. The course was in good shape. But, I'd be on the green putting for birdy and then 3 putt. Need to play course again. But, 5 hours is too long to play.
Immaculate fairways, very nice out of town golf outing
Challenging golf course but beautiful well maintained golf course. One of the best near Sacramento area.
This course never lets me down
Course is in fantastic shape, from tee boxes to fairways, to greens and bunkers. It may be in the best shape I have ever seen it for this time of year. I got out today by myself, and actually played the front 9 in just an hour. I didn't catch up with a group in front of me until #12, and still finished in 3 hours. The couple I caught up with had been waiting all day, and it made the last few holes quite difficult for me to find a rhythm, after such a wonderful pace on the front. My hat goes off to the staff for the amazing playing conditions on the course today, and I couldn't be happier! Now, if only Darkhorse would get their act together!
