DarkHorse Golf Club

Darkhorse is my favorite course in the area. Usually very good pace, great course conditions and beautiful surroundings. The only knock I would say is that although they do try to avoid the golfers they do turn on the sprinklers on some holes in the afternoon. Otherwise, very laid back staff and beautiful course.

Challenging but fair. Greens were very fast. Staff was great.

They’re hurting for course marshal’s. It’s a fantastic course but the pace of play is horrendous. Having a couple marshals out there would help in my opinion.

Nice course and challenging layout with a lot of interesting elevation changes.

Most of the course is pretty well kept, but about half the tee boxes need at least some work. There is also a good deal of crab grass on the course that seems to be let grow.

Love the course, very well kept, challenging layout.

Wish it were closer to Roseville.

Did not like sprinklers running during round, excessive moisture impacted play.

Do not understand why no carts go can out to the parking lot, the only course I know that has that rule.

Still would rather play this course more than any other course in the greater Sacramento area - with a few exceptions.

It was 94* that day yet the course was wet and muddy. Overwatered for sure. The clubhouse was not existent. No merch available. The staff were friendly and helpful. The cart girl was gone by 2:30pm on Thirsty Thursday. The course design is gorgeous and the holes have plenty of character. For the deal I got on TeeOff, I’ll drive 80 miles to play there again.

There was no indication on GolfNow that DarkHorse’s greens were punched, and yet they still charged $90 to play. Great layout, but the conditions were disastrous. At least there was sand in the traps, but that’s about the only positive about this course. Wouldn’t play here again unless there’s a major turnaround in terms of the conditions. And also being honest as to whether or not the greens are punched. Shady.

Costumer service at check in was horrible. 12:50 tee time and the range was closed because they had ran out of balls for day. I was then informed they were currently out of golf carts and would hopefully have one before the start of the round. When I questioned about the range and why it was closed, Robert started, “ You booked a tee time for the course not the range.” He then said, “If you need to warm up you can go swing your clubs on the turf down the hill.” I then asked why there were out of golf carts and was told, “I must not play a lot of golf, especially at a place as popular as Dark Horse.” (This was actually pretty funny if you know me) At this point I had decided I would rather just cancel my the tee time and leave then give the course any money. Robert, with a smile on his face, informed me there is a 24 hour cancellation policy and he would not be making any exceptions. I then understood the trap, you book the tee time, drive 45 mins, and then your stuck paying for the round no matter what happens once your at Dark Horse, with no recourse except jumping onto this platform to vent/ write a bad review. After the awesome introduction to the course, a golf cart was delivered to us at the practice green. Things can’t get any worse right? Turns out the golf cart has barely functional brakes and on most hills the parking break wouldn’t work and we had to “curb” the cart to keep it from rolling. After the front nine we discovered a taped blue “X” under the score card on the steering wheel and a note stuck behind the seat that read, “No braking at slow speeds.” So it seems they had given us a broken cart in desperation. I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH. Go somewhere else, or use that money to take your significant other out to dinner, but please don’t wast your money and time driving out to course.

On a side note, the two guys I got paired with were super cool and were able to help salvage what felt like a total loss.

This was my 5th time playing here. The layout is fantastic. Excellent setting. However, bring your own food and drink because there is nothing here. As long as you know that you won’t be as disappointed.

I paid 53.00 for a weekday morning this week. When I arrived I was told the greens were just punched. This was not updated on GolfNow or we would have gone elsewhere. We got over it and were about to tee off when we were told the back nine is closed. We could play the front twice. When we got done with the front we could see there was 3- foursomes waiting to tee off 1.

So 53.00 for 9 holes on punched greens with no range balls available and no amenities wasn’t great. I will say the caddyshack gave us a 200.00 credit for the next round which was nice. However, the day was a bust!

The course is tough especially when it's your first time playing. Lots of blind shots.

Very fun and rewards staying in the fairway!

Called down to ask about Youth on Course and was told they didn’t offer that anymore to which I replied “no kidding, when did you stop doing that?” real uptight guy on the phone says to me “DON’T ARGUE WITH ME, SIR!” 😳 We enjoy the course when we get out there a few times a year, never had any issues before. Hope for Darkhorse’s sake this guy isn’t around for much longer🤷🏼‍♂️

Super nice track - well worth the money! Greens run fast and true, fairways and rough are what you would expect at an almost first-class course. To "nit pick", there are some issues that could easily be fixed and not break the bank:

1. A few of the tee boxes (white/blue tees) could use some love. Fall is a GREAT time to rehabilitate used/abused tee boxes, especially the par 3s where people tend to take divots (#5 and #13 stand out) and #10 for whatever reason...

2. Some/many of the bunkers need to be maintained by grounds crew daily - my fellow golfer clearly don't know how to use a rake! (#12 fairway, #16 greenside are examples). PS - maybe add a few more rakes to encourage folks to used them?

3. Provide a few ball washers. There are none on the course - ANYWHERE. Be forewarned about this before you go out - bring an extra towel and get is wet first.

One of my favorite courses. Very good condition and awesome layout. However, the guy at check in is extremely rude (not the first time either). They also didn’t have any decent food or drinks available.
