Nestled in the Sierra Nevada foothills, DarkHorse Golf Club tumbles across a magnificent landscape that once served as a cattle ranch. The course incorporates a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. This tough layout is definitely not for the faint of heart. From short par 3s to monstrous par 5s, this course has a little bit of everything. The severely sloped greens demand accuracy and the bunkers were strategically placed to provide a multitude of shot-making opportunities. Tricky doglegs and uphill and downhill lies aren't the only challenges you'll face, there are also several water hazards that come into play throughout and an abundance of trees that make it even more difficult to navigate your ball. DarkHorse G.C. is situated 50 miles east of Sacramento and though it might be a bit of a drive to get there, local golfers consider the round well worth the trip.

Great layout!

One of my favorite courses. Love the layout and the mountain vibes. Concerns are that the maintenance is a bit rough. Weeds and high grass are encroaching and the bunkers need some TLC. Overall the greens are in great shape, but the fact that people still refuse to fix their pitch marks is sad. Every green I fix at least 3-4 extra pitch marks. Darkhorse is still a favorite, but not worth it at full price.

"owner" was drunk and was looking for a fight.

. We were headed to hole number one and noticed that our golf cart looked like it has recently been flipped. The other car would not break no matter how hard you pressed on it. We simply tried to go exchange the carts. We were met with a very aggressive who he called himself. The owner. Start shaking the cart while we were in it. And telling us it's the way it is. It's twice as much in Vegas... I paid almost $500 for this Father's Day outing with my brothers and dad .While slurring and spitting his words, he tried to get in my older brother's face. Have multiple videos. There's multiple witnesses. I believe some of them members you really need to check your security film. This is unacceptable behavior. May seek legal action

Bery Poor Experience

Extremely poor experience, wont be coming back anytime soon. Showed up an hour before tee time, no range balls were available to practice, can't chip around practice area, no cart was available until 5 mins before tee time. Starter was noticeably irritable. Course conditions were poor, tee boxes were full of weeds and had no flat areas, bunkers were hard as a rock, green speeds were very inconsistent, pin locations on gps were off by 20 yards, and a 6 hour round at 1 pm on Saturday. Worst golf experience in Nevada county ever. Beware, dont waste your time and m I ney on this course.$60 was a rip. I dont think its worth $20.

Sierra Nevada Gem

We enjoyed playing this gem. It had been some time since I've played Darkhorse GC, definitely playing it again soon.

It would be nice to see the estetics improved on the course. Bunkers cleaned up, berry bushes trimmed back, weeds along cart trimmed and bull thistles removed.

Fairways need irrigation leaks repaired and they would be almost perfect. The greens were the best part of the golf course, great speed, the contour and movement made you focus on all of your putts.

Great Play

This course is a very nice course worth playing multiple times if I were staying in town. Fairways were in pretty good shape even though it rained heavily two days prior to. The greens were in fantastic shape and rolling very fast. We truly did enjoy playing here.

Windy weather
Used cart

This place is murder when cart path only on a windy day

I love this course, but this day was too windy and it was cart path only on a solo round. Exhausting - wish I'd checked the weather report first. I'm ok generally with cart path only, but this course has a lot of raised cart paths so it is a lot of hoofing it up and down hills. Love the track - maybe my favorite layout. One bunker had exposed concrete and was unplayable (probably some other bunkers too, but this time I did not personally engage with EVERY bunker lol

Lots of room for improvement

The first time I tried to book a tee time over the phone I was referred to the website which charges a credit card fee. Asked a friend to call Andi. They were able to book over the phone without any card.

This course takes you throughout a residential neighborhood and the one of the most frustrating things was the lack of signage pointing you to each hole. Out of 18 holes , max I saw were four that were numbered. We were stuck behind a foursome that must have started late because they were too busy arguing at the pro shop about the last time they were there so immediately where 9 to 15 minutes behind pace according to our cart. Nobody was in front of them. There was never a marshal nor water on the course at least there was a cart girl that we saw twice. The course needs to be marked better for cart boundaries.

Great experience

Got a GN low price of $43 on a high quality, challenging course. All courses are a one hour drive for me. GPS carts. Friendly patrons. Dark Horse may become my favorite.
