Great Course; terrible pace
I want to start by saying I love the course, the range, the staff, and the convenience to my home of Summer Grove. I played it in the past before it became a Canongate (private) course and I was thrilled in the spring when I heard it was going to be open to the public again. I really, really want to love playing here.
But I have played the course about six times since it went public in the spring and every time the pace has been terrible. I don't know if they're overbooking, or just not sending someone out to watch the pace, but it is ridiculous. I am not a great golfer, I shoot around 100 and break into the high 90s every once in a while. But at of all the other courses I play in the area (mostly Orchard Hills and Arbor Springs) this is the only place that it takes almost 5 hours to play on a Monday. My partner and I started yesterday at 10:25 and we packed it in after completing the 14th hole because it was 1:30 and we knew we couldn't possibly finish by 2pm.
I had been hoping I was just having bad luck, but it has been this way every time I've played. I want to play Summer Grove and I want to recommend it. But they've got to fix this issue.
My favorite course in this area.
Some holes wide open, some challenging. It's a neighborhood course, so it can get crowded. Always well maintained and lovely. Great Practice facilities! Overall a great value.
A real test for any ability.
Go play this course! It's in great shape and you will not be disappointed.
Good course for the money
Course in good not great shape greens roll true with significant undulation.
Wet Weather Cause standing water in a lot of places
We have played this course several times now. From early morning to midday tee times. The staff is always maintaining the course. It has open faiways for the novice golfer, many challenges for the more advance.
This course is always challenging
As usual Summer Grove was in great shape. The fairways were well maintained and greens in better shape than ever now it is without the traditional Canongate ball marks.
Great conditions. Fun layout. Great price.
Very impressed with the conditions given all the rain. Greens were fantastic. Fairways and chipping areas were perfect. I will be back.
Best course in coweta county
Considering all the rain, summer grove is in superb shape. From tee to green, the grass is lush. The greens are in great shape, with very few ball marks. Could be a touch quicker, but not complaining. The only real issue was the silt in the fairway on number nine, but that's to be expected as this hole is prone to flooding, especially considering the rain we have had. Have played here many times in the past and I welcome the new challenge by narrowing the fairways and letting the rough grow out. It definitely gives the vibe of a tour caliber course. Played the tips for an added element of difficulty. By far the best course in coweta county, and only second to callaway gardens for courses south of the airport. Definitely will be back!
Great course for the $.
The rate we received from booking with Golfnow.com was exceptional. Will be using this service from here on out ! Thank You Kenny
Great Layout
Great course layout, well maintained fairways & greens. Sand traps need some attention.
This course has great features, friendly staff and great practice facility
Great course awesome staff really good prices. Even though we have had over 7+ inches of rain over the last few months here in Newnan, the course is holding up very well. Not many soggy spots at all and the greens are pristine.
Challenging but very Well Maintained
Some of the nicest fairways and greens in Atlanta. Bermuda & Zoisia in fantastic condition. Course can get a little muddy/soppy after rain, so recommend not coming until it's dried out for a couple of days. Lots of undulating greens - will test your putting skills.
Awesome layout
Always a favorite of mine. Due to the rain the course can not keep it pristine but not from a lack of trying. Give them sometime it will be back to her glory.
Its been a while!
Its been 10 years since I've played SG! I loved the layout! However, the course is in need of a lot of attention. It has taken on water from the recent stroms and the course shows it. Hole 9 was completely underwater as the fairway near the layup area is full of sand from the creek that fronts the green. several bunkers are completely wiped out or have grass growing in them. The greens on the front nine were recently aerified.....
Great course.
Suffering from heavy rainfall. Handled very well, most of the course is not to soggy. Ponds could use an agitation to prevent the stagnation and insect problems.
Major concern
After heavy rains the course is very wet. The biggest problem when the creeks overflow the Coweta County sewage leaks onto the course. The smell on 4 holes is terrible.
Greens are wonderful, some drainage issues after rain.
Normally a great course, but the last few weeks of wet weather has damaged two of the holes significantly. Still much standing water guards many fairway edges, and repair work is actively progressing especially on hole #9. The new owners seem to be putting much more work in the course than the previous management did.
Great course. Fun layout
Played during a break in the rain, so there was a lot of run off and washed out bunkers. The maintenance staff was working tirelessly to get the course in shape.
Beautiful course. Well maintained.
This is my favorite course around Newnan. The staff is very friendly and the course is well maintained.
Really Good Course
One of the best courses around with really challenging greens.
