Prairie Landing
About
Prairie Landing Golf Club has received acclaim ever since first opening in 1995, including a four-and-a-half-star rating from Golf Digest. This West Chicago course will make you feel as though you've been transported to a seaside links course in Ireland. The prairie-style layout closely follows the tradition of classic links golf courses. Robert Trent Jones II designed the course, fully utilizing the rolling terrain. He incorporated large, undulating greens and rolling bent grass fairways. Vast swaths of native grasses stretch along the fairways and strategically placed bunkers frame the greens. There is also contoured mounding to contend with. The golf course finishes with a memorable par 5 that features fairway bunkers on the left followed by a carry over a lake to a well protected, high bowled green. Prairie Landing also boasts a practice facility that includes a driving range with target greens, four practice holes, and a nine-hole chipping and short-game area.

Nice Day At Prairie Landing
Played Prairie Landing for the first time a few weeks ago and it was a very nice course. I found a last minute deal (plus used a coupon code) and got to play for $26, and I believe the normal rate is $83, so I just couldn't pass it up. I played from the gold tees and they were plenty challenging for me, but not overbearing. You'll definitely need to think your way around the course, and there will be a few par 4's where you should probably put the driver away. It is definitely a scoreable course, but you can post some big numbers very quickly if you're not careful. The practice facilities here are great as well--they have some practice holes as well as a full range (although I didn't get to use either). All of the carts also had a nice GPS system, they showed a view of each hole as well as yardages to pretty much every hazard and to carry them, so that definitely came in handy. All in all I had a great time at Prairie Landing, and my actual score is 4.5/5.0.
Challenging Golf Course
Very challenging golf course. You must drive the ball straight and really think about club selection off the tee. The greens were in very good condition and overall experience was very good.
Target golf with large multitiered greens & difficult bunkers.
The course was in excellent condition except for the sand traps which for some unexplained reason had weeds growing in several of them & lacked sand. Need to play to know where to hit & what to avoid as it is target golf but a very nice course.
Course has been better maintained in previous years.
Staff can be spotty. Played twice last week. First time clubs were picked up and placed on cart. At end of round clubs were cleaned. Second time we had to hump clubs done two flights of stairs, no club cleaning. Greens were not in good shape. Unrepairedball marks caused putts to miss.
Club house nice ambiance. Couldnt find any one to take lunch order. Had to go togo to pro shop.
Previous years experiences were much better.
Exciting Course
Every hole presents a different challenge. You will use every club in your bag.
Bunkers need work- so there's a local lift, rake and place rule for all of them.
The greens are hit or miss due to the type of turf. But they were really healthy when we played.
Suggestions:
<7 handicap, play black tees
7-12, play the yellow
13-20 play blue
21+ play white or blue (white tees are almost ladies)
Great track but a few small complaints
Course was in good shape, but a few of the greens were littered with pitch marks. Also, some of the sand traps were badly in need of more sand. But it was a great golfing experience and I will definitely come back here in the future. Very unique holes with interesting options on how to play them.
Fun, Challenging - worst bunker maintenance in Chicagoland
Played 8/1/13
Would have given the course 5-star as it is definitely a fun layout, great layouts, and challenging.
It may seem hard to believe that bunkers cost them 2 stars, but they are definitely the very worst maintained bunkers in all of Chicagoland. Many had no sand at all and the drainage tile was actually visible.
I don't mind paying a premium rate for a premium course, but Prairie Landing should be ashamed and hire a new greenskeeper.
Nice course
Course is in great shape. Bunkers needed work. It is somewhat of a target golf course and driver was not necessary. If you're looking to hit the long ball it may not be the course for you. But I enjoyed it very much.
What's going on with all the bunkers
Great course but every trap was a mess. Played Cantigny the day before - great but different coursses
Challenging but fair layout and always in great shape.
I have always loved this course. Its a bit pricy but when you can catch a special like I did on Golfnow.com, it is well worth it. Greens was lightning fast and course was in great shape. Some bunkers needed some attention due to the recent rain fall but I was fortunate enough to avoid them this round.
Course was in excellent shape, green were fast but fair.
Overall the course was in good shape but a few of the bunkers needed some work like removing the weeds and reworking them.
Great Links-Style Challenge
Prairie Landing is a very nice course, offering significant challenges to golfers of all skill levels. The Robert Trent Jones, Jr. - designed course is consistently in good condition, with green speeds currently running in the 10-10+ range; a very fair Links-Style experience, well-worth the effort and cost.
Pure greens and running fairways.
Played here during the heat wave, greens were fast but pure. need to work on their bunkers, some serious drainage issues. Tight off the tee with bunkers. Fun course to play over the open championship week.
HOT Links!
Played this wonderful links style course in 99F heat index. Thankful that the cart girl was attentive and there were water coolers every 6 holes. Looking forward to playing here in again in better weather!
Great course .... play was too slow. We waited on every tee box.
The course was in good condition and the greens were quite a challenge. There is a premium to be in the fairway. I had more sidehill lies than I care to remember!
The only downside was that the pace of play was too slow. We waited on every tee box and could not find a rythem.
All said I plan to play there again.
sub par conditions
Every time I've played this course, I knew what to expect as far as course quality...after all the rack rate is $100+. Something has happened between the last time I played here 2 years ago and this past Friday. The bunkers, which are an important feature of any links style course, were unkept, eroded, and had weeds in them. And the greens which are usually fast and smooth, weren't. We paid $63 golfnow price but a buddy met up with us on the back and paid $57 for 9 holes with cart! It's prob worth 63 for 18 but not a penny more. I'll consider other options in the future.
Definitely worth playing
A fun & challenging course to play.
Range balls and practice holes are great for warming up before playing. Will definitely play again.
Fairways and greens were in perfect condition
The only negative was with all the rain we've had the bunkers were not in the best of shape
Good Deal for Good Course
I have always enjoyed this course. I think that it is a good layout. The pace of play was slow because of the group of guys that I was paired up with.
Fun course, needs sand
Prairie Landing was a pristine course. It's still a solid and fun track to play. Not sure if it's owned by the banks now or what but the sand traps have clearly been neglected (badly!!) so it doesn't play or show well. Also, no beer cart after like 2pm (WTH). The course overall was in pretty good shape. Staff was cool.
very poor bunkers
course generally in good shape, quite a few blind shots, sand bunkers are unplayable, the worse I've ever seen, does not warrant the price of green fees.
