Great day at the Golf Club of houston. Photo submitted by jmz320 on 08/25/2015
Challenge accepted
Under estimated this course the first but thankfully I've learned my lesson as that time wasn't so good in the golf game. I had returned with vengeance and a mission and was able to capitalize on proper guidance and areas to hit or miss. This course isn't easy but a great challenging layout. This course will definitely let you know where you stand in your game from the 2nd hole on in. First hole is just a little taste and your first free warm up.
GCH
The championship course is very lengthy and challenging. Putting Greens are well kept. The pace is slow because there was a foursome in front of us. On hole 18 a couple cut in line out of nowhere. I was going to confront them but my partners said to let it go because there was only one hole left.
I highly recommend this course to everyone.
Was disappointed we were scheduled in the middle of a tournament - pace was very slow as a result for our round. Had I realized this I would not have made the reservation at that time.
Very disappointed with the way I was treated as I checked in and paid. This is a course equipped with very nice carts with GPS. With that this gentleman that checked me in ushered to a gutted cart with no GPS, no enclosure and on a windy cold day..meanwhile he gave the regular carts to others including my playing partners. I didn’t know what to make of this odd treatment. However, the starter saw my terrible cart and gave me another cart. I paid full price and received a disrespectful treatment by that man that checked me in.
Everything was perfect, except numerous tee boxes were chewed up and in poor shape. The greens were miraculous and fairways were nice.....so I really expected more from the tee boxes. Other than that, no complaints!
Feel like you're playing what the pros play
As always, GCoH has screaming fast greens that run true. Fun tight fairways. I love playing here. Always a challenge.
Houston Golf
First time playing the course, off the Blue tees some long carries but fair. Greens in good condition but usual pitch marks not being repaired. Sand in bunkers heavy coarse material. Overall impressions were good and would recommend playing there. One piece of information, this is the second course at the club and the only one non members can play, I assume main course to be off a higher standard.
Great Value for Quick Round at GCOH
Course played very well for Sunday Afternoon. Greens were in good shape and running fairly quickly. Pace of play was best I have seen in a long time, as the tee sheet was fairly empty on a NFL Sunday afternoon. Overall course is close to dormant except for some highly fertilized areas around the greens. Pace was quick and golf course in great shape, win win.
Great course but…
I got a great deal on a noon round for four on GN. However, after I checked in I was told carts would be coming as there were none. Seriously? At a Semi-Private former host to the Houston Open facility? There was a couple patiently waiting for a cart for their 11:30 tee time and it was now approaching our 12:00 noon tee-time. I prepaid for the round and we were here to celebrate my buddy’s birthday. Now I’m wondering @are we gonna tee off on time?” The desk staff said they were hoping carts would come soon. We were playing the Tournament course. So I proceeded over to the cart barn at the members course and asked when we would get a cart. The guy in charge said “well if you just stick round here we’ll see iid we can get all some carts soon. “ Then a member walked up and told me he had to wait two hours for a cart recently. We ended up getting two carts and drove back over to the Tournament course only to find the 11:30 tee time couple still waiting. So I drove back to the cart barn and informed them there was a couple waiting. It’s now 12:05 and we proceeded to the first tee but felt bad for the couple still waiting. All else was fine. I received a call asking if I’d be interested in membership information but after the cart shortage episode I declined even though I was previously considering joining. I was told by one of the members that private carts were prohibited (the same guy that had to wait 2 hours for a cart .
Not sure we’ll go back even though we enjoyed the facility.
Going
Disappointedt
The first time the golf cart battery died, I was shocked, but what was really unpleasant was the attitude of the workers in solving the problem.
The golf course was well maintained, but not worth paying that much for.
Special
We were very fortunate to play GCOH Tourney course last week & loved it!!!! No houses - just a fantastic place to play near the airport!!! Way better than some of Houston's private clubs- former shell houston open home!!! DO IT!!!
Greens are great.
Greens are in great shape. We did notice some hog damage but none on the fairways. Pace of play was great and cart service was great.
We grabbed a HOT Deal and felt it was a good value.
The location is great for midtown folks but if you live west of downtown it’s a haul.
