Great day at the Golf Club of houston. Photo submitted by jmz320 on 08/25/2015
No reason for cart path only
There is no reason for this course to still be on cart paths. Slows pace of play..
Hot Day
Course was in great shape considering we need rain....
Awesome course
Aside from walking into clubhouse to check in and a gentleman fussing at them because they left him out there with a dead golf cart for over an hour then the ironic aspect of our golf cart dying on the 2nd hole, the day was awesome. First time playing GCoH and the fairways here are better than most greens around the Houston area including Blackhorse and Moody Gardens. Awesome layout, awesome staff, awesome amenities, etc. Couldn't ask for anything more.. well a fully charged cart would be nice. :-)
Baking in the fairway
They day I decided to play happened to be on the warm side with real feel temp around 103. Aside from that the course was incredible. The greens were speedy, but not tough to read. Fairways were good and the rough made you pay. All the traps, which I saw plenty of were perfect. That's what you get 2 months after the Houston Open. This is one of my favorite courses in Houston and for that rate you gotta play.
Amazing as usual.
Place is always in great shape. Our caddie was a great guy. Bennie is awesome!
Golf Club of Houston
Caddy was excellent with good knowledge of the course and greens.
The course is by far the best course in Houston.
We really enjoyed the tee box, layout, fairway and greens(it's fast). Overall experience was great! Love it.
Great course but overall not great golfing experience
Clearly a great golf course in fantastic shape, and this combined with its notoriety as the Houston Open course equals high price. However the fact that they allow five-somes to play severely slowed down our pace of play. There were multiple fivesomes ahead of us, which held us up tremendously. These people were also clearly novice golfers, which of course is fine, but the Marshall should have taken charge of this and enforced either pace of play or allowed us to play through. The only encounter we had with the Marshall was him basically yelling at us and accusing us of not paying (despite golf shop telling us a receipt of payment wasn’t necessary for starter/Marshall). In the end, nice course but a let down when considering how costly it is. Save your money and play somewhere else to find a more overall enjoyable golf experience.
Slow round, fivesome
Booked a GolfNow reservation and showed up at the course and they said GolfNow had added me to a foursome. They said they do allow fivesomes which probably has a lot to do the the pace of play. Luckily the guys I joined were accommodating (I don't think I would be happy about a fifth guy joining our foursome) I'm not sure who is responsible here.
Best Playability Track In Texas
Was able to shoot an Even Par round on a windy / stormy day in Feb. The conditions are immaculate. Being able to control distance and spin the ball at will is easy when conditions are this good.
Fantastic Day. Paid 50 bucks.
Love playing GCH
The course was in beautiful shape prior to the Houston Open. Great practice facility.
Excellent challenge
The course is in perfect condition! Won’t find a better conditioned course! Truly a gem! Great lay out fantastic challenge from any set of tees!!
Best bang for the buck!
Always the best manicured golf and practice facility
Winter Gem in Houston
Played the tournament course two times while visiting Houston over President's Weekend. Staff, Starter and Marshals were polite, professional and welcoming. A real bonus to playing this course is the incredible practice facilities including four separate greens and many bunkers and chipping areas to work on your short game as well as a driving range. Getting their early to warm up as this incredible practice area was well worth it!
The course is prepping for the upcoming PGA tournament and was in outstanding shape, in spite of the recent weeks of rain. On almost all occasions, according to a member we played with, this course is "cart path only". ..making for a 4 -4.5 hrs round, however also preserving the fairways to near perfect winter shape. The course offers four tee boxes per hole so you can readily adjust the length of your game to the T box selection. Bunkers and water are plentiful on many holes and help to make this relatively flat course challenging and interesting. In spite of being close to the airport, the course is replete with natural beauty and even offered us a view of a bald eagle and Bobcat, while we were playing. A good mix of long par 4's and 5's with dog leg left and right as well as many holes with water and bunkers protecting T shots and approaches to the green. Since we were heading to the airport after our round, the staff generously offered us the member showers...another example of their welcoming spirit to "non-members"
In summary, a great value, especially in the PM, for the average to above average golfer. I would come again in a heartbeat and a definite don't miss if you are in Houston.
Rain all during round. Course and greens held up great
Tournament Course Shines Early in Winter Season!
The Tournament Course was in Excellent shape for early winter. Greens were still running a tad bit slow, but much faster than they normally would be this time of the year. Overall Speed was probably in the 8-9 Range. Fairways and Rough are relatively grown in with the Overseed. Course was a little damp in spots from overnight rain of over an inch. Several of the balls plugged on drives, which is normal till February/March when the Houston Open prep starts. Great day, nobody out on a Monday and 65 degrees!
