The Redstone Experience - Texas Challenge $$$$
I recently played the Redstone Course - home of the Shell Houston Open - putting my 12 handicap to the test. The course layout was relatively fair - rewarding good shots and penalizing the missed ones - BTW my first perception via on-line - I thought it would be a more difficult golf course. It has been the most expensive course I have ever played - although it comes with a fore caddy. The fore caddie runs out to the fairway and watches your shots - keeps track of the ball locations. Kinda handy on some of the holes - since their is plenty of water, treed areas and bunkers. The Redstone staff are very friendly and caddies work hard for their extra tip money. I would recommend this course - although, not sure I would play this again - more so because of the price point. Redstone should consider upgrading their rental clubs - they were really dated clubs with a putter in the bag that was a circa 1980 issue - it was an "Aiko" special - aka as the mini golf putter!!! - Enjoy the Texas experience at Redstone Course - I know I certainly did.

Amazing course conditions for January
A beautiful golf course in amazingly manicured condition for January - -I guess the high green fees keeps down play while still affording maintenance. The over seeded fairways and greens were nearly immaculate. It is big course and the back tees would be too much for anyone but the biggest hitters. Plenty of room to drive the ball and the greens are large and fair. I love that there are no houses around the course - you feel like you are out in nature. Lots of variety in the holes for fairly flat terrain. A good test.
Perfection. Excellent course in exceptional condition.
Now, this is an exceptional course. Definitely a bucket list course. The conditional are spot on perfect from the greens to tees and all in between. The practice and clubhouse facilities are top notch and the food was great. I have nothing but praise to say about this course and the overall experience. Sure, it isn't cheap. But, you will not be disappointed that is guaranteed. While not an easy course, the multiple tee options make this a playable course for all mid level to advanced players. Beginners need to attempt this course. By the way, we say 30 deer in two large herds and a bald eagle!
A tour level experience on a big golf course
As a collection of holes, the Tournament Course at the Golf Club of Houston (as it's now called), home of the Shell Houston Open, is a great experience. Lots of interesting holes, fairly difficult no matter what tees you play, and all of them are in terrific shape. As a walk in the park, not so much. The golf course is spread out of 350 acres, with some pretty good distances between greens and tees, especially Nos. 1 & 2 and 17 & 18. Green fees might seem expensive at $175 or so, but it compares very favorably to courses around the country that charge more.
Expensive but worth it.
This is the quintessential PGA experience in Houston. Bordering on the ridiculous.
The staff will greet you in the parking lot and offer to take your bag and load it up on the golf cart for you. They'll shine your clubs up and get you ready.
The driving range is great, as they stock it with Titleist ProV1 practice balls.
Forecaddies will hunt your ball down for you and even carry your bag if you want to walk it like a pro.
I would not recommend this course to beginners as the experience will be lost on you. This is for the intermediate to advanced players.
