San Luis Rey Downs Golf & Country Club

Overall SLRD is a pretty good value for the money. Played on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon. Course is fairly wide open, both in number of players and layout. Greens are in good shape, but fairways need some work. I am always disappointed in a course that has so much potential, but just doesn't invest in the little details that really make a course great (e.g., tee boxes, edging on bunkers, tee markers, conditioning of fairways, etc.). There was no cart girl on the course for a weekend and also, yardage markers were not present (not even distances on sprinkler heads). Carts have no GPS either, so better have your range finder. Nonetheless, a good value and something different, I'd play again.

The staff makes the experience worth the drive. Really appreciated the friendly staff and level of service. We were treated like "members" in a private club. Keep up the great work!

Even if you hit it in the fairway you can loose you ball with all the leaves and sticks on the course. Needs some maintenance

with temps in the 100's this tree lined course is perfect for staying cool....plenty challenging, but fun to play.....staff was very helpful in filling out our twosome.

Not sure when this course made the turn into a steal of a twilight deal but Kudos to the course managers. Great price for the course, pace was great, rum drinks are a good deal also.

Our foursome played on a Wednesday before noon and the course had light traffic. We were able to play in 3:45 with no one holding us up in front and no one pressing us from behind. The course was in good shape with no aeration or re-seeding going on and the weather was awesome. A great day!

Fast greens in excellent shape. A few bare spots in the fairways which are marked as Ground Under Repair. Adequetly wide fairways, but if you stray into the trees lining the fairways, it will probably cost you an extra stroke.

This course is challenging for all levels of players

I played on 5/27. The course is fun to play. It requires to work the ball if you are a long hitter of the tee. The greens were recently punched.
Several ground under repair areas on the fairways. I would have a hard time paying full price to play this course under the current conditions.
$30.00 was what I paid to play at 11:15 am.
The course gets some gusty winds that makes it play longer.

The course has trees everywhere. It has appropriate tee box's for every level. As long as you play within the fairways you can score relatively easily as the yardage/distance is fair. Course is in better condition than in years past and price reflects a good deal. Food and beverage is offered and good as well. Parking is a plus as everything is right there when you open the door. I will play there again soon and with summer coming it is in a corridor that allows a tradewind to flow up from the ocean for a cooling breeze.

I am usually optimistic to play a course I have never played but I was unfortunately disappointed. The greens were punched, which was not advised on the site or I would have not played. The rough and fairways need some watering and the bunkers are bone dry. However, the staff is extremely pleasant. I never saw a beverage cart throughout the entire round which would have been nice. I might consider playing the course in the winter where there is more rainfall but I will have to pass for summer play.

Good course for the money, very convenient to home.

Had a great time, with some good friends. Staff very friendly, restaurant responsive and made our food to go.

The course is understaffed and the conditions prove it. There are many bare spots on the fairways and the greens are rock hard.
In addition the pace of play is obnoxiously slow. There were many people on the golf course that shouldn't be there until they get some basic lessons. In the group ahead of us, the foursome hardly could hit the ball past the next set of tees. The group behind us were constantly hitting into us when we could not go
forward due to the log jam ahead of us.

I don't think I'll be playing this course again any time soon.
