The Golf Club at Chapel Ridge

The grounds crew has the course in fine shape. The course is challenging but fair — definitely worth playing.

This course offer great variation to slope and flat shots. Much more challenging than the eye sees, Great staff!

The clerk behind the counter said my reservation with golf now was not processed. He did charged us $10 as. A convenience cart fee and said golf now just stiffed them. I didn’t want to argue since I came all the way from Florida this morning to take my son golfing for his birthday. I know my credit card shows the amount paid but he was put off and critical of golf now prices. He did not know the reason I got such a great price was because of $20 rewards besides the course was empty he should be glad you offered the hot deal for them otherwise I would have booked a different course. This is actually the second time that this has occurred in North Carolina

Played this course for the first time yesterday with my brother in law and was very impressed. The course was in excellent condition and a very fun course to play. With a lot of dog legs, it made the course play a lot more strategically than your normal Driver-wedge Driver-wedge category that so many course now fall into. Very tough hole locations yesterday with most pins being tucked behind a bunker or water which made for some very high risk high reward shots, or go for the safer option and leave yourself a very long lag putt.

The course was very aesthetically pleasing with some beautiful views and just overall nice looking holes. The only complaint we had was we were stuck behind a foursome that would not wait for us to play through, even when we were pulling up to the tee and they were still hitting. At one point we just skipped ahead of them, but obviously we didn’t blame the course for poor etiquette. Will definitely be playing here again and strongly recommend other to play.

David at the front desk was very helpful and professional, got us out on the first tee early, both groups we ran up on let us play through with no problem!

Course was in great shape, greens were slightly slower than normal. Definitely enjoy playing here and will be back.

The course was in decent condition considering it’s still early. The sand traps could use more sand. There was no starter to control the traffic nor did we see any Marshall to keep an eye on the pace of play. The back nine took 2 1/2 hours which is too long considering it was a weekday. The greens were in good condition and fast. The fairways were also decent. Some tee boxes were rough though.

Overall, the course design is very nice and most fairways are wide and forgiving. I still recommend but wish they had a Marshall patrolling to keep the pace more steady. Too much waiting which breaks any momentum. It appears some folks have no golf etiquette and are oblivious to bottlenecks they’re causing. Sorry to harp but there’s no reason to play a round in over 4 hours on a week day.

I was on 1st tee box ready to tee off in like 2 minutes and this couple comes up and asks to go out in front of me because I was still waiting for my group of 3 strangers to show up. No big deal here but the guy took 2 tee shots and then the women completely missed the ball and then hit it off the toe like 20 yards. My group of 3 never showed so I was off the 1st tee box only to wait on basically every hole. The threesome that was supposed to be with me kept hitting into me as soon as I hit 2nd shot. It was frustrating. Never saw a Marshall or beverage cart also. Nice course but members need to take their significant others to the range a couple a times before they get on the real course. 4 stars all around course.

First the bad stuff....

I made my tee time for 9am with the expectation of getting there at 8am since I like a long warm-up. Through unforeseen circumstances, I didn't get to the course until after 8:20, and when I checked in, they told me that they had moved the tee time up to 8:50 because of a tournament at 9, so my warm-up was cut in half. Just don't understand why the 9am slot was open on Golfnow.com just the day before when they obviously had booked a tournament for that time. This was the only bad part about the day, though.

Course:

It's in close to pristine shape. The fairways are still filling out a bit, but the entire course has greened up nicely, and the greens are wonderful and pretty fast. I've always enjoyed the layout, and there are some great risk/reward holes to make you think, but they are fair with bailout areas for shorter hitters. There are two very short par fours - maybe too short - but I double-bogeyed one from a trap, so who am I to complain? There are five sets of tees to choose from.

Clubhouse/amenities:

Good sized clubhouse that is well-stocked, great snack bar, and the people working both are always friendly. In fact, for my shortened practice, they gave me a bucket of balls for free. Carts are practically new or very well maintained electrics.

Practice facilities:

The range is one of the best in the areas with lots of flags, good turf, and plenty of room. You pay for balls, but they are in good shape. The putting green is smallish, but my main problem with it is that it's pretty hilly and could use more cups. It has a pretty severe slope that covers a large section, and so it kind of cuts off the usable area. If you have more than 3 people or so, you're fighting for the same cups.

Pace of Play:

Chapel Ridge takes pride in their pace of play, and they have a starter and a ranger to keep you on track, and both were very friendly. The starter gave us good info, and the ranger checked on us several times. As a single, I was paired with the second half of two threesomes that were together, and there was another single paired with the first half ahead of us. The first group was bit slow, so we had to wait, as did the tournament groups behind us. After reminding the group in front to speed up once, and getting no results, the ranger decided that our two groups should skip #10 and move ahead to #11, then go back and play #10 as our last hole, but he was super nice about it and even led us to the correct hole and thanked us. It worked out great so we didn't feel like people were waiting on us all day.

We booked two tee times with golfnow.com. When we arrived , the course had us down for only one tee time. I had my phone and pulled up the confirmation to show them I had two tee times. After some delay, we were given the other tee time. Luckily, I had my phone and the confirmation. A bit awkward. Golfnow.com and the courses need better communication.

Played Chapel Ridge with several friends. Have played the course numerous times, and it was in prime shape for this time of year despite the large amount of rain this spring. The day was nice -- temps in the 70s and the greens were fast. Always an enjoyable and challenging course that will leave you tired by the 18th tee.

I’ve been playing here for almost a decade. Love the course layout. Greens are in great shape. David in the clubhouse always has a smile. Even though it was cart path only still played the round in 4 hours. I would always recommend this course.

The course was in decent shape coming out of the winter. Greens were very good, fairways a little beat up but hopefully they can recover. I wouldn't pay more than $35 to play here though.

I played this course only once before and brought along 3 "rookies" this round, based on my previous experience. Throughout the round, I heard things like "This is a really great course," "This hole is going to be really pretty when the grass turns green" (still in 'winter' mode) and such.

We'll be back to play it a few more times this season. It's a nice little hidden gem!

Even though conditions weren’t great due to heavy rains the night before, this is still my favorite course in our area. Great layout. Love the water and bunkers.
