Shorecliffs Golf Club
About
Shorecliffs Golf Course wanders through the coastal canyons and valleys of San Clemente, heading towards the beautiful shoreline. Situated just steps from the ocean, the course enjoys cool ocean breezes and a temperate climate, which makes it a year-round haven for golfers. Its location also provides the golf course with plenty of scenic ocean views. The course features narrow fairways tightly lined with trees and small greens bordered by sand bunkers. The front nine is shorter and requires more accuracy than the longer, wider back nine. Shorecliffs opens with one of the trickiest par-5s in the area. This dogleg left hole features trouble both left and right. Although the layout does offer a fair challenge, players of all skill levels will feel comfortable taking on the golf course.

would have had a better score of it wasn't for the first two holes Photo submitted by champ471 on 06/17/2014
Not worth the money at all!
Played this course two years ago before the club house got demolished. Then played again on August 8th for $55. A little high for what you get but not horrible. Greens were all in good shape but clubhouse wasn’t open and parking was a nightmare had to valet which was free but annoying. Was going to book again in a few weeks when I noticed they had almost doubled their prices! $90+ for the weekend! this course is fun and challenging but not $90 fun! I would say $60 max for the weekend. I’m sure this course will be get the rep of being the only place with open for your last minute t-times but it’s gunna cost you.
Not worth the price
Hello everyone I live in Arizona but my moms still lives in San Juan and I just started golfing this last year. All the courses in Phoenix are plush and always affordable. I decided to play in my home town at one of the local courses and come to find after I heard from some buddies that is was a good cheap practice course and I got their only to have to pay $95 to play golf? The courses I play in AZ are easily 90% better than shore cliffs. I almost didn’t play but this was the only place that had an open tee sheet. My friends say they used to play for $30 a round. I’m sure this course could be better but the price makes you feel like you’re losing money.
50% overpriced Play somewhere else
I started golfing in 2020 and cliffs was always affordable and the most decent practice course around. You could get out for 18 at 32$ during the week and 38$ on weekend. I’m just confused how all the sudden they make some minor changes that they needed to do to keep the course running and they decide to start charging almost triple of what the prices used to be. Also just saying the course was full every single day and it was hard to get times you had to be checking every hour for tee times to free up but now the entire day is open because the price. Lower your prices by 50% or this course will eventually close. You can’t be charging more than San Juan, tejarias creek, Sc muni and talega. You guys have to be on something to charge more than those courses.
You’re a dog trap practice course with a challenging layout at max 45$ for a weekend round seems about right. And go back to the 38$ week round and I guarantee you will be booked for months with zero complaints…. Just saying you need to figure it out.
Its not called Shore Shi&$ for nothing….
Lower your rates by 50% minimum!!!

Course redesign and clubhouse is nice!
New course layout and clubhouse and parking lot is amazing. Very nice and worth coming here now.
FULL Old Course + New Clubhouse + New Prices = EMPTY GOLF COURSE
I am very sad for myself and many Seniors and Veterans that have supported this affordable relic the past couple of decades. The clubhouse had fallen into disrepair but the course was always a challenge and the greens were the BEST.
Suddenly there was new Ownership. New irrigation, new tunnel, and water features were installed while temporary holes were the rule for YEARS while a collapsing canyon and new clubhouse was built. There were affordable increases in fees through this process.
Recently, New management by TROON has increased the fees to beyond market value. Established courses in the area are charging $20-$30+ LESS for early bird, twilight, and regular weekday prices.
NO problem getting a tee time NOW as the course is EMPTY.
I hope fees come down soon or who knows what may happen to this beautiful course/clubhouse. Maybe it become a PARK?
Shore cliffs disappointment.
Lots of construction, very poor layout and overall a disappointment. Won’t play again and $100 worth no more than a muni at $25
Jvcal
The owners try hard to improve this course with many on course, improvements and a new clubhouse and other amenities like a patio area and a new pond and a fountain. The greens are in good shape. Golf Cart‘s are very difficult to drive and have a limited road to get in and out. I would definitely replace the golf carts with something more people friendly and roomier. Fairways for very wet.
Overpriced Dog trap
I have no idea where to stay but the price for a round now is 95$…. The course is worth 30$ at best and that’s what it used to be. It’s a practice course that apparently is on the level of all the good courses in the area. It plays 5700 yards with most fairways as dirt or if there is grass it’s usually muddy because of the run off. If a round here is 95$ I’m expecting a GPS cart and hopefully drinks are free? I just don’t know how they can justify a 1 star course and charge this. It’s not worth it. Go play muni or lagos!!!
Are they kidding ?
I think its pretty obvious these rates are way too high when you see a wide open tee sheet on the weekends. What a joke asking for $95 a round for this course. They clearly dont know how supply and demand works haha, theyd be making way more money if the rates were even somewhat reasonable… but these are ridiculous for a course that doesnt even play over 6000 yards. Is there free drinks and a massage involved??
Where does the money go
They put in an oversized clubhouse along with buying new carts, but dont want to clean up the fairways and tee boxes. Everyone that you interact with here makes you feel unwelcome. The marshall said someone complained about my group talking too loud on the tee box when literally no one was around us…. clearly the dude must have heard us talking about the bad tee boxes, and took it personal to ruin our day. Theres never anyone playing, yet they get mad if you rehit a ball. And on this bowling alley of a course, that happens quite a bit if you want to get your moneys worth. Im around a 10 handicap and this course isnt even enjoyable. Go take your money somewhere else.
Outrageously Overpriced!!!
Imagine being able to play golf for 32$ that’s what this course used to be and that was cool because it’s a good practice course. They’re now charging 95$ to play a dog trap of a practice course. You can play SC muni for 68$ weekend rate and Los Lagos 55$. Also the course is maxed out at 6000yards it’s not even a full course. Stop going to Shorecliffs and make them cut the price 50%.
It’s really not worth it to play here. Fairways are usually dirt or completely muddy because they will never figure the run off situation.
Overall a few years ago the course was worth the price of 32$ but 95$ I think drugs are involved haha
They've Turned It Around!
Had a Sunday Afternoon tee time on 8/13. I had previously played the course in previous years and had not returned due to course conditions, cart conditions, and a pretty unpleasant staff. However, Troon recently took over ownership of the course and has made it a terrific place to play 18!
Compared to how it used to be, the tips now measure just over 5700 yards; making it a shorter course but still having its trademark narrow fairways that place accurate tee shots as a must. Also, they switched the front and back nines and turned the original 1st hole into an almost 200-yard par 3 as current hole #10 and a short 230ish yd par 4 as current hole #11 (this made up for them having to get rid of the former 6th hole)
Despite not having a driving range, there is a solid chipping and putting green next to the clubhouse to prepare for the round. The staff is very courteous and the newer golf carts they have are of high quality. It could be beneficial to have a GPS display on the carts but they are still very nice.
For a shorter course, the round was $72 for a 1pm Sunday tee time, which was somewhat reasonable.
If you haven't played this course in a while it was under under old ownership or renovations, it is definitely worth trying out again!
Very poor conditions on some teeboxes and most fairways
The $ derived from the sale of the driving range should have been used to improve the course fairway grasses and teeboxe grasses instead of building a beautiful new pro shop building. Many teeboxes were spongy with different grasses left 1 inch deep and overwatered. Most fairways are still full of varied types of grass with poor drainage or rough mottled terrain. The ‘ditch’ is still a got track and except for the always terrific greens, not worth eating a round.
Better than I Expected
Played here many years ago and told myself I would never come back unless I was just going to the bar (lol) . I heard they made improvements and read some of the reviews. So I played on 8-1 n was absolutely impressed by what they have done ! Will definitely be back !
Great course, Bad marshals
Overall was a great course and enjoyed it.
Unfortunately the Marshal on the course that day was rude and a jerk to me and my girlfriend. I believe his name was Skip or Ship something like that. It was on the back 9 when we were teeing off and he was sitting there watching us. We were like the 4th group out that morning so the pace of play was really fast and we weren’t backing up anyone or slowing people down. On the whole he was watching us we hit a few bad balls that were lost and went into the bushes so we hit another ball because no one was behind us and the group behind us hadn’t even started the hole previously yet so we knew we had time to hit a second ball like everyone does if they loose a ball. As we were driving up to the green he passed us on the cart path and stopped us and was really rude to us and made comments saying we weren’t allowed to hit another ball and made us feel uncomfortable out there. Obviously if the pace was slow or people were waiting we would just drop a ball and keep playing. We know the golf rules and how to keep the pace playing fast but we weren’t slowing anyone down that day and due to it being so early in the morning it obviously wasn’t a big deal for anyone else either.
What clubhouse it was torn down.
