Shorecliffs Golf Club
About
Shorecliffs Golf Course wanders through the coastal canyons and valleys of San Clemente, heading towards the beautiful shoreline. Situated just steps from the ocean, the course enjoys cool ocean breezes and a temperate climate, which makes it a year-round haven for golfers. Its location also provides the golf course with plenty of scenic ocean views. The course features narrow fairways tightly lined with trees and small greens bordered by sand bunkers. The front nine is shorter and requires more accuracy than the longer, wider back nine. Shorecliffs opens with one of the trickiest par-5s in the area. This dogleg left hole features trouble both left and right. Although the layout does offer a fair challenge, players of all skill levels will feel comfortable taking on the golf course.

would have had a better score of it wasn't for the first two holes Photo submitted by champ471 on 06/17/2014
Great tract with lots of opportunities for improvement.
When this course had its "original" now closed holes 5 and 6 it was to me the best test of golf in south orange county. Even with the new replacement holes it is still fun and a good test to play. Traditionally the greens when at their best are as good as any in the area. Your scorecards are accurate to the course but why you never changed your layout description in your on-line services is a mystery to me. You must get a lot of head scratching customers? The recent physical changes, updating the club house, new sand and more grass on the fairways has aesthetically improved the course immensely; however: putting roses around some of the T-Boxes, could make for some not so good times in the spring when the bees are buzzing around and you are trying to make a swing and ultimately have angry bees chasing you off the same t-boxes?? Several players at Shorecliffs were stung by angry bees last spring and summer, that were defending their hives in some of the watering control boxes, but that will be surely outdone this next spring when attracted to the roses!!! You have a great tract to work with and have the best weather in the world on your side. Good luck with future improvements etc.
It’s an adventure.
I love this course! The layout winds through canyons, up and down hills, and they’ve got some of the purest, fastest greens I’ve ever seen. The fifth and sixth holes were lost to a landslide years ago and they’re estimating to have them back in a little over a year. Until then you have to play the first four holes, then drive back down the canyon to reach the temporary continuation of the front nine. A number of the teeing grounds need to be flattened out though, and some of the hillier grounds are pretty thin on grass. The real cool part of this course though is the drainage tunnels that you drive through to get back and forth to and from the holes. For the rates they have to play here, this course is an outstanding value!
Great pace of play and value
Staff was very friendly. Loved the course layout. Course was not perfect due to mother nature and landslides. I still rate it high because it was an enjoyable round and good pace of play. Greens were in good shape.
New staff are bad
The new staffs are horrible. Do not understand the players are customers
Crazy
This course was crazy. Where do I start. The driving range had 2 baskets to collect your balls from a machine that had to be an antique. I was put with a group of three other golfers after I asked if I could tee off earlier than my tee time. A single golfer teed off literally 3 minutes before our group. There’s 8 holes on the “front nine” and 10 on the back “nine”. Many parts of the golf paths run in the drainage system with its wonderful smell. There was 5-6 interesting holes on the back nine. For the 18.00 fee I guess it was worth it. Did get a lot of laughs from the layout.
Dead Cart By Hole 3 and Snail Pace
Had 12:36 tee time and was given a cart that died after hole#2. Called and they said “it’ll be awhile since two other cart also died and they don’t have others available.” Called it quit after it took them 30 minutes to get me a new cart. Hard to keep going when it took an hour to finish two holes and a cart that died after those two holes. On the drive back to club house, it appears most of their fleet have battery issues as others complained as well. Good notes- cart guys were nice as well as the Marshall. Course location generally have cool weather due to it being close to the beach.
OK course
Still waiting for holes to be repaired and course had lots of really wet mushy spots
Challenging golf course.
Golf carts are in desperate need of replacement or better maintenance.
The grounds crew and the new management are doing a good job trying to improve the course
Good value
Tough layout if you can’t hit the ball straight. Fairways are in rough condition but the greens are excellent! This was my 5th time playing and I’ll be back just because it’s very challenging to me.
Improved course conditions!
Really enjoyed the course conditions! Who ever is doing this they obviously are making the Old New! Greens were great and some fairways improving! I like the improvements. However the Marshall needs to back the comments up and attitude needs to improve. He negatively questioned my self and the other person playing in an extreme negative manner on hole 16 speaking during golfing players back swing and stating comments related to the two of us having separate carts. I told him we worked it out with the starter and all was okay. I felt like his negativity was almost on the edge of him getting into a physical altercation if he would have continued the verbal comments bordering on abuse. No one need explain about personal injuries to a field Marshall when a blue flag was asked for and the starter stated there were none. Hopefully with all the new great changes providing blue flags for the handicapped will be provided.
Shore cliffs is getting better
The course is improving and the pace of play was very good.
Funky, But Solid
The one word I would use to describe this course is "funky." Since holes 5 and 6 (the only holes with a water view) are being repaired, you have to circle back from the green to the tees on 2 of the par 3s. Once you circle back after hole 4, you have to drive what seems like 50 miles to get to the next hole. The carts are also extremely slow, which , I guess, makes for better pace of play.
With all the complaints that you can have about this course, I actually enjoyed playing it. The back 9 has some beautiful views, and the holes are strangely quiet even though its next to a freeway.
Don't play this course if you're expecting a normal golf experience. But, if you want something unlike you've ever experience before, come here. They have you driving through huge tunnels and stuff, it feels like you're on a Disney ride.
Ok course for the Price.
So I decided to play this course to get out of the Pasadena heat this morning. The girl working desk was friendly but the course wasn’t what I expected for San Clemente. Kind of in a retirement community which is fine , but the course needs work, which they are doing. You have hole 2 and 7 sharing tee boxes (back to back) and to get around the course, you need drive through some storm drain areas ( designed for the course) to get it some of holes and back 9. Course is tight and the greens were rolling fast. Course wasn’t packed at all but backed up a little on 13, but moved. The price was fine but I won’t play it until the courses is a bit greener and they fix the holes up.
