Shorecliffs Golf Club
About
Shorecliffs Golf Course wanders through the coastal canyons and valleys of San Clemente, heading towards the beautiful shoreline. Situated just steps from the ocean, the course enjoys cool ocean breezes and a temperate climate, which makes it a year-round haven for golfers. Its location also provides the golf course with plenty of scenic ocean views. The course features narrow fairways tightly lined with trees and small greens bordered by sand bunkers. The front nine is shorter and requires more accuracy than the longer, wider back nine. Shorecliffs opens with one of the trickiest par-5s in the area. This dogleg left hole features trouble both left and right. Although the layout does offer a fair challenge, players of all skill levels will feel comfortable taking on the golf course.

would have had a better score of it wasn't for the first two holes Photo submitted by champ471 on 06/17/2014
Bad. Don’t play
The course was in horrid shape. The ruff was just like the fairway. The green's were bumpy and slow.
Slow pace on weekends but a fun challenging course
On weekends the pace can be a bit slow. However it’s a nice course and staff is friendly. The first half has tight fairways so you might need to club down if you want to beat the course.
Price is right
I went to play there mostly because of the price
The front line was a little rough and not a lot of grass more dry areas, etc.
The greens were in good shape
The back 9 was much much better
The clubhouse is great, lunches, full bar, cold beer.
Certainly cooler than in the valley.
I would play it again.
One thing that was super annoying was all their new carts, but they hardly let you go on any of the fairways. The cart restrictions were ridiculous.
Considering the conditions of the fairways.
Great value and fun
A little slow, but conditions were pretty decent. Pretty narrow tough course at times. But overall a fun track
Backup on the back nine
The course was fine, the starter was a fantastic gentleman! I’m an early tee time golfer, it usually costs a little more but if I can see some open tee times first thing in the morning I am excited to get a round done in around 3 hours. That was my pace playing by myself for the first nine, then I made the turn and saw a foursome at 10. I knew they booked some back 9 rounds the first hour but I assumed they would stop letting people go out the back after around an hour and twenty minutes to avoid a traffic jam. But that was not the case, the back 9 slowed up significantly. One foursome let me play through because they had fallen behind the pair in front of them, who had started right before me at the 6am time and had been flying before reaching the back. Those guys gave up on 13 because they were so frustrated with the pace slowing so abruptly. Don’t send people out the back nine knowing it will be backed up for the rest of the day by doubling up. It’s absolutely unacceptable. I would have given it a higher rating but this one fact was it for me. Please take note of this. It was my birthday so still a good way to start the year.
Overpriced
Way overpriced for the condition of the course and the gimmicky layout
Tight fairways but nice
It has really tight fairways so you have to play this course. Smart and probably use a three wood off the deck rather than a driver. But that’s just if you’re keeping your score otherwise you can definitely have fun and just hit your driver, but be expected to lose some balls. I got the hot deals Price and that was really worth it. Sometimes the pace of play is really slow, but outside of that yesterday was good. It was a 4 1/2 hour round.
Best price and place to play in OC
Had a great round. Nice fairways, greens almost normal after seasonal punching month or so ago.
What surprises me are the negative reviews on the course. Guess it's the mediocre players who want mike wide fairways and flat everything. I've been playing this course for 3+ decades through thick and thin. The ownership has done a terrific job redoing this course and building a fantastic clubhouse and grounds. Best course for the price in OC for sure and I'm an above average golfer. All the naysayers can go play double, triple, or more for ok conditions somewhere else. Kudos to the staff and ownership for what they've dobe!
Not what I'd call "in good shape"
Let's take a walk through my round...
Arrive- check in, all good
Restroom- urinals out of order, stalls dirty, no tp at all, no seat protectors, no soap, no paper towels.
Course- patchy grass, grounds under repair everywhere, bald spots, hard pan, etc. You get the gist.
Pace of play- snails move faster. Waiting at every tee box. Sometimes two OTHER groups at tee. Over 5.5 hrs.
On course entertainment: fight broke out between 2 groups in front of us. 10min of cursing, yelling about lawyers, and general chest puffing beligerance.
Bright side- the cart woman was awesome, she tried to break them up twice. Marshall should have been notified immediately and dolts kicked from course.
Best part of round was the weather, and a bad day at course with good friends beats a day at work.
I won't be going back, bit I have a great story to tell.
Overrated
This course might be my least favorite in California. Extremely difficult with OB on both sides with creeks running through it and undulated fairways in poor condition. The greens are as hard as concrete. The course has a grand total of zero restrooms on the course. Also, because they re-arranged the holes, my golf app GPS did not recognize any of the holes correctly. I will never play here again.
Fun time
We had a really fun time playing Shore Cliffs. We finished our round in just over 3 hours. The course was in excellent shape. The staff was very friendly. Looking firwars to playing it again.
