High price to be forced behind slow matchplay
Booked 3.10pm tee time yesterday, arrived on course ahead of then and was greeted by one of the staff (kind friendly lady) who warned us there was ladies matchplay up ahead which would be slow, that "they will not let you play through" and we should maybe start from the 6th hole albeit its quite a hike away and might run out to someone already there. Knowing we had booked the earliest tee time available (3.10pm) we thought there then had to be people on the course at the 6th tee and we wouldnt get out. We were told the ladies matchplay had tee'd off at 2.30pm however and we (24+ handicappers) knew we wouldnt be flying through the course so were happy to play on from the first tee and take our time so long as no one was behind us
Tee's from the 1st tee box aa the whole time we didn't see anyone and played it somewhat slowly due to a lost ball. Onlly to reach the 2nd tee to see the matchplay were only finishing off putting (par 3) - marked their cards on the green, 3 of them walked off and one stopped, dropped a ball on the green and took a putt again. To say this put dread on us was an understatment. This pace of play was going to be awful
We reached the 3rd tee and had to wait at least 10 minutes before tee'ing off as the matchplay were only taking their 2nd shots, from here we seen the course ahead was full, no spaces for us to skip ahead. We slowed our own play down again also only for us to be kept waiting at every tee box regardless. When we finally reached the 6th hole we were held up by the matchplay people who were still marking cards on greens and also sitting on their phones on the greens before walking off. We had enough. 2 hours to reach the 6th hole on a small 9 hole course.
An absolute disgrace that you pay a high price for a 9 hole course only to be held up by the slowest matchplay possible with no care for a visitors, some of who were thinking of becoming members. Not anymore.
The course through the years has always had good greens and been in good shape, a lot of work been done recently which has improved it even more, only for it to be let down by extremely poor pace of play management and you are expected to accept that because there are members ahead playing matchplay
If you're going to book here, realise you are taking an absolute gamble with your money as you may not get to play golf at any pace at all.
We will not be back.
Hidden Gem
What a cracking wee course. Usually 9 holes but in the winter time, rather than reducing the number of holes, they increase it to 12. Not long but tricky and the greens, well what can I say, probably as good, if not better than you will get anywhere. Slick, true and tricky. Even in the winter when they use the aprons of the greens as temporaries, they run true and better than a lot of the "elite" clubs in the province.
Great wee course with some challenging holes. Couldn’t beat it in terms of value for money.
One of the best kept courses
I’d golf here on a weekly basis. Conditions are always perfect. Green keepers and staff are always out and about keeping things fresh. I’ve golfed a lot of different courses and this is by far my favourite. Couldn’t recommend it enough.
Good value
Decent course. Unfortunately some people tried sneaking on and those same people were rude and possibly took my volunteers I left at one hole. The staff got them to pay for 18 holes but they left after 9 holes. So my club is gone and they left early after paying 30 pounds. Very suspicious. Also wearing football tops. Staff very friendly but needs to be more firm. Somebody tries to sneak on can't be trusted. Tell they can play. Cause now my beautuful 8 iron is gone. Proper golfers and people hand clubs in
Great course
What can I say it’s the best kept secret it is without a doubt the best nine hole course in northern Ireland the course is dry and well kept the greens are really well kept hole positions definitely give you food for thought if I had to say anything negative it would be that some fairways are tight together but if you’re straight there will be no problems 😉
Great course
This course is a brilliant wee gem its hidden away down a lane were you will find a great club house were you will get a warm welcome the course it’s self is one of the best if not thee best nine hole course s in Northern Ireland it is dry well kept course set through woods and moss I can’t fault it play it and see
Good course but the fact they no longer offer a rate for 9 holes is a big negative considering it is a 9 hole course with only 1 alternate teebox.
Like the course overall l but feel it is overpriced at £20 for 9 holes with no clubshop.
Decent course
Decent course for the money, friendly ground staff and members
