my go to course

This is my go to course so close to my house and work, I play here almost every other day after I get off at 5pm. Good price after 5 oclock,, if you get ahead course can be finished in 3 hours or before dark, sometime a lot of walkers so it slows the pace of play, a very good short course to practice irons and your short game. highly recommend and will always be my go to course

Nobody managing carts, our cart broke down, coffee dregs at bottom of pot

Pro shop woman was friendly.

On your own if first time, nobody to help find a cart, took a cart from the 'return' row, not sure of battery charge.

Our cart broke down on the 5th hole, Called pro shot. Turned key to off, pulled pedal all the way back. Somehow this fixed it. Had to repeat the process a couple more times.

Wanted coffee at end of 9th, just dregs at bottom of the pot, had to ask for cream. Restaurant empty so can't blame busy staff.

Short Won't Kill You

This is a moderately challenging course. Some elevation changes and water does come into play on a few holes. Not reaching the green in regulation is no big deal--as long as you can chip/pitch to get to the pin. The risk/reward factor rarely favors the recreational (high-handicapper) golfer. Chugging along down the center is your safest bet even if your not long.

Pace-of-play is your biggest enemy: Lots of hackers/beginners contribute to plenty of wait time on the tee box as they plod along and look for their lost balls. Consequently it' hard to get a rhythm going throughout the round.

Btw--Get a cart unless you REALLY like challenging terrains. Plus, you can kickback in comfort...while you wait.

Unorganized chaos

Arrived early for tee time, when I checked in was told to come back in 25 minutes there were no carts. I went outside to practice green and there were quite a few golfers milling about waiting for carts and no one seemed to know who was next up and if there was an order. There was a player ambassador who didn't seem to know what was happening next. He would have been of better use if he had been assigned role of starter with a proper tee sheet. I checked in again for a second time and was told we would have to wait for a cart. No instruction as to my position in line or who to see about my place in line. Eventually pressed the issue with the attendant and he told me I could follow the guy with the green hat. Anyway got our cart and turned out we were paired with another twosome who also had to wait for a cart. Made it to the first tee about 25 min past my tee time. The course is okay for the time of year, the greens were very good. Pace of play WS slow, 2 hrs 45min for front 9. We quit after 9 holes as we were on pace for a 5+ hr round on what is essentially an executive course.

Disappointment

It has been years since I last played this course. The condition of the course is poor. The lack of on course supervision was lacking, resulting in VERY slow play.

God fun

A reasonably challenging executive course. Friendly people everywhere. Pro shop inviting, food good, pace of play excellent. I hate the dips to the creeks, but that's what golf is all about. I always have fun when I play here. My handicap comes in handy.

Great open course

If you are a beginner or even have a low double digit handicap this course will be fun for you. It is very open so if you have mishits it is easy to recover. The greens are well maintained. And the course overall is in great condition especially for the price. The only downfall is the window where you get food, be prepared for either a long wait for your food or watching the chef and person taking your order arguing because they can't figure out if they already made your order.... so for the best time I would say just play the course and bring yourself snacks...

Great for Ladies, Seniors, and Beginners

Casta Del Sol is one of my favorite courses - because it's relatively short and easier to play. Sometimes you want to enjoy golf on a course that you have no pressure to play well. The course is also conveniently located from my home (Irvine) to get there quickly, and staffs welcome single players to sum up and play even if you don't have any buddies to play with.
It is a short course - with lots of par 3's and par 4's (no par 5's) but it is designed to be fun and enjoyable (compared to other shorter courses around the area). Also, the scenery and environment is also pretty and blends well with its surroundings. Especially recommendable to seniors and ladies who might enjoy a shorter course.

Not crowded at all on Weekends!

I played 18 holes in a cart by myself and finished in like 2.5 hours

There weren't many people there considering it was a Saturday afternoon. The only thing I would complain about is that there is no driving range there, but they do have a practice putting green.

Book on the course website. Not golf now.

Tee'd off on a sunday morning around 7 a.m. with a friend and a nice couple to round off the foursome. Weather was great once the fog burned off and the pace of play was better than expected for a sunday. Our issue came when we made the turn to the back 9. My friend and I paid $49 dollars approximately as did the couple we were paired with. We booked on golf now and they booked on the online site for the course. We were under the impression that the fee included breakfast, 2 beers, and a hotdog as advertised for that price. We were informed after the food and beers were presented that because we signed up on golf now that those items were not covered in the $49 dollars. The kicker to this whole fiasco was the couple with us also paid $49 dollars and were given there meals/beers as advertised. Now if that wasnt bad enough I reluctantly paid my tab because irregardless I ordered that food and beer only to find out that these beers were filled half way. I know this because the plastic glasses were clear. I would assume this has to be common practice as it happened to the friend I was playing with as well.

TLDR; Dont sign up on golfnow expecting to get the advertised benefits of playing there. Sign up through the course site. BYOB - unless you like drinking half beers.

P.S. - do not leave your food unattended while playing. One of the many birds constantly squawking on the course will snag your stuff. Blackbirds/Crows (I am not an expert) were the culprits, you have been warned.

Rate

I used early morning 9-hole through Golfnow.com. Even though the rate included cart, I was charged cart fee in addition. I complained and got refunded but they should have been more careful.

Fun time with my family

We enjoyed our round of golf at Casta Del Sol on Sunday afternoon. Got great deal via GolfNow, $20/person riding. My wife and my girls are beginner and this course is perfect for them. The guy in ProShop is very friendly. Only problem is the geese p..p every where.... If you dont mind that then it will be ok. We will come back.
