Callahan Golf Links
About
Callahan Golf Links in Waleska possesses a rich history of more than 150 years of farming and family ownership. Before being converted into a golf course, the site functioned as a farm from the Civil War until World War II. When creating the course, the natural beauty of the landscape was carefully preserved. As its name would suggest, the layout is a true links design with carefully placed pot bunkers and thick cuts of rough. Water is barely present but there are plenty of other challenges throughout that will quickly make you forget that fact. It is gentle enough for beginners but the back tees will challenge more experienced players. Golfers can also work on their short game on the chipping and putting greens or warm up on the driving range. The affordable rates make Callahan Golf Links an excellent value.

Pace of play WAY too slow on the weekends here
I played this course yesterday also, so nothing has changed as far as the course itself, but the difference in the pace of play from a Friday to a Saturday was huge. An hour more to play the same 18 holes, and it's not like we played fast on Friday. Marshalls have to push the pace of play to make this place enjoyable to play on the weekends!
Great course condition, always interesting layout
I play this course a few times a year, and it was in terrific condition, especially the greens. I only wish the clientele who play here would help out the greenskeepers by fixing their ball marks! The layout is always interesting, lots of different looking holes.
Great course
Course in great shape.. Greens are a slow but that’s due to being bent and it’s hot .
Callahan Review
Even give the amount of our recent rain, the course was in excellent condition. Mark Reese is doing a great job maintaining the course.
Rained Out
Rained out after 3rd hole. Acquired a rain check for my wife and I.
Great Value
For $50 on a Saturday with a cart this one is hard to beat. It is a very challenging course, do not be in the pasturegrass!! We could pinpoint where a couple of balls went in and still could not locate them. Overall the course was in great condition for being the middle of August. A few nit picks: a couple of the tee boxes need some work, a second beverage cart would be helpful (we saw her once the entire round), add sand and coolers to the carts (they looked brand new so maybe those are coming), and the clubhouse and range could use updating. But that is why the round was $50 and not $75-100, so not complaining. I was also shocked at the lack of golf etiquette shown by other player in not replacing divots!! Also, i left my rangefinder on the cart and while they could have easily said they couldn't locate it and walk away with the branch new $200 rangefinder they didn't, and it was there for me Sunday when I went back for it. So kudos to them .
Overall, great round, will be back
The new carts are a great addition. The course was in much better condition than the last time I played it.
A Big Surprise
Have driven by this course thinking it was a 9 hole executive course with a driving range. To my surprise, this was an enjoyable track to play. Challenging holes with a great layout. I will definitely be back!
Strange experience.
Weird all day, not necessarily in a bad way. No one to give you a cart. No starter. Had to go behind the bar myself to fill a water bottle. Needless to say there was no ranger to be seen. Saw cart girl once all round but that was once more than many courses these days. So all that was different but no big deal.
The course was a trip too. Tee boxes were full of divots and broken golf tees. Not many waste baskets so saw beer cans in the trees. Pitch marks rarely repaired. All this can probably be attributed to the same slobs. But it is just lazy course management too. No yardage markers and I question the yardage accuracy too. We had fairway mostly bordered by foot high weeds. Every time you missed the fairway you lost your ball. But so did everyone else because you usually found 1 or 5. And you deserved to lose your ball because the fairways were mostly generous. Quite a few carries would be beyond the high handicapper but the white tees bypassed most of them. Several greens were perched on hills making for a difficult chipping round. Greens were decent if a bit slow. Layout followed the local landscape and predictably up and down especially the back nine through the trees whereas the holes nearer the clubhouse were in a really big field. But the holes were usually interesting especially the par 3’s and this fact alone no doubt boosts a lot of the rating scores, including mine. Compared with other courses nearby I would say this is good value though not for a low handicapper who would likely expect more.
In great condition
Great greens, well kept fairways; some tee boxes could use some care.
Hidden Gem
Callahan's is a beautiful links style course. The course is always well maintained, with a challenging set up. Very laid back atmosphere with average ammenities, but great value for the price. Always enjoy my experience at Callahan's.
Bring your own water!!!
Bring your own water…there are no coolers and drink cart maybe once a round. To make maters worse, clubhouse often closes early leaving no relief at the turn.
Need pin placement information or red white and blue flags
Amazes me how some so called golfers have absolutely no golf etiquette. They don't repair their ball divots on any green, drive golf carts on holes that say no golf carts and on every par 3.
Worst of all you are stuck behind them and they refuse to let faster players play through.
Course needs a marshal who can advise said golfers on some of the most basic rules.
