Poston Butte Golf Club

Only drawbacks to Poston are, wind is pretty consistently there and it's a drive to get there. Otherwise one of my favorites in the greater Phoenix area.

The course is in great shape. Good time and value.

I've played Poston a number of times over the past 10+ years. I've always had a pretty good experience there; the course is usually in very good shape, and if it's not, the pro shop guys will tell you so. So, I saw a tee time on GolfNow for Poston, and decided to call the pro shop for the course conditions prior to setting up the tee time for me and my buddy. The guy who answered the phone told me that the course was in "excellent" shape. Now I've grown very apprehensive about pro shop guys and their assessment of the courses that they work for, so I've been very specific about the questions I ask about the course conditions when I make the calls. In this case, I asked how the greens were rolling and when the last aerification was done...essentially, I was trying to assess what speed the greens were rolling at. The greens at Poston usually run around 10 or even a bit faster depending on when they were mown and rolled. Now the pro shop guy said, "they're rolling great, we punched our greens several weeks ago, and they're completely healed". So fast forward to Sunday; I walked directly from the pro shop to the greens, drop a few balls on them, and could tell immediately that they were very slow. Needless to say, I was extremely dissatisfied by the "excellent conditions". They were relatively smooth, but they couldn't have been rolling anywhere near an 8. About the slowest greens I've putted on all summer. The rest of the course was in decent shape, so in fairness to the course, only the greens were the issue. So, the moral of this story...well, there isn't one. AZ golf courses and the people who run them, don't care about the Arizonans who play golf in the summer months. My advice to the AZ golfers is, if you're planning on playing a golf course, visit the golf course and do a physical inspection to ensure you're getting what you pay for. Life's too short to be jacked around by false claims and what amounts so piracy.

This course never disappoints! If you haven't played it, play it. Tee to green no complaints.

Hit the ball long and straight, putt well and enjoy a low score. Course in perfect shape.

Excellent course the money! Most of the course was in great shape other than a few bumpy/furry greens. Staff was extremely friendly and we played a sub four hour round, would definitely recommend this course!

The greens were punched maybe 2 months ago and they are shaggy and slow. Normally the greens on this coarse are great speed. They do hold so you can throw it in tight but I am a lag putter and it hurt my game.
