Cove Cay Golf Club
About
Cove Cay Golf Club is located along the shores of Tampa Bay, offering scenic views and abundant wildlife. Water is a prominent feature on the golf course, coming into play on 12 holes. The course is tight with narrow, tree-lined fairways and several tricky dogleg holes. In addition to all of the water hazards, there are also deep bunkers lining the greensides. At 6,000 yards, it is not a long course by any means but what it lacks in length it makes up for in shot-making challenges. Thanks to its length though, it can usually be played in under four hours. The layout features a diverse set of hazards that will require the use of every club in your bag. Cove Cay Golf Club's signature hole is the par-5 17th. This dramatic hole runs alongside the bay, making accuracy a necessity in order to reach the small peninsula green.

Cove Cay on Tampa Bay Photo submitted by webbknight on 09/21/2012
Golf by the Bay
Our first time playing Cove Cay was great. We will play again soon.
S-L-O-W Slow
Could be a nice place, but needs a little better management i believe. Clubhouse guy told me just to go tee off whenever which should have been a bad sign. I expected as a single i was going to catch up to a group, but not 3 groups on one hole, pass them, 2 more on one hole, pass them 3 more groups. My round was at noon and 4 times i had to wait on the grounds crew to clear out. I played about 10 holes and got out. if the course was amazing it might be worth the wait, but being average it might be my last visit.
Do not play this course if it’s been raining recently
I have played this course several times earlier in the summer. It was awesome! In that it was so beautiful and pretty well-maintained and the staff was friendly.
Today however I walked off the course on the 15th hole. Covered in mud myself as well as all of my gear.
This course has some of the best views I’ve ever seen of the Bay. However, the entire course is virtually underwater! The cart paths were deep in water and most of the course was standing in water. It was so unpleasant. I really think they should’ve closed the course. So my note to myself and my suggestion is to others to only play this course in the dry season. It was a very unpleasant experience.
Fun course to play
Cove Cay is fun to play and has amazing views of the water on multiple holes. Course conditions are a bit bad at the moment, but they did mention that they are repairing tee boxes on the front 9. Only major issue is both times we have had pretty bad experiences with some of the pro shop staff treating Golf Now customers poorly because they are not getting paid from the round. One of the times they tried to get us to pay twice because they didn't agree with the Golf Now price we got. Other than the pro shop staff issues the rest of the course staff is always respectful to every customer no matter how much money they are willing to spend..
Cool little course
Dont need driver but still lots of fun to play this course. It was in great condition considering it is august. Tight with many holes with water. Nice scenic view on a few holes.
Enjoyable course to play
Not the longest course (especially the back nine), but I got the good fortune to play this course after the normal tee boxes reopened up for a day or 2...there was some significant work being done for them. Our 3some finished up our morning round in just over 3 hours - no complaints at all. Golf course was in good shape, save for a couple of patches on a few greens due to the Florida summer.
Only complaint - no beverage carts roaming around with drinks, which made playing in 90 degree and humid weather a bit tough. Otherwise, had an enjoyable round - will be happy to play this again when I return in December.
Decent for price
Overall, the course was in good condition. Greens had a few blemishes, but overall rolled well. The only drawback to the course was it’s “bunkers” the bunkers were not filled with sand but rather filled with loosely packed dirt that turned into mud from the morning dew. Course is fine for any players that can keep it out of the “bunkers”
Half a Golf Course till Labor Day….
Although the Course looking good and having good fairways and fast greens, we were very disappointed experiencing that the front 9 regular Tee Boxes were closed and everything moves forward to an extent that playing felt like playing only half o the course. The response from the pro-shop personal after the round talking to then about this disappointment while having paid full green fee rate was very disappointing and gave me the impression that visitors are not welcome anyway. All the best for the future….
LOOKING GOOD!!
The course is playing very well.Fairways are excellent condition as well as the greens.Greens are rolling perfect...plenty of 1 putts today! The 1st nine tee boxes are looking very good, when they re-open them the course we will well put together.GREAT JOB:)
Fun time at Cove Cay
The staff was great and friendly. Helped rent some great clubs since we played last second on a whim. Pace was great as nobody out in front of us. Tee boxes on front 9 were under repair forcing us to play up and that changed some holes pretty dramatically as it brought water in to play that otherwise wouldn’t have been. The three holes or so with bay views were the highlight of the round. Fairways are tiny but in great condition. Would play again when I visit next.
Just ok
they have been working on the tee boxes for a ver6y long
time.
On a very hot day, water hard to come by.
Come on Labor Day!
Had I known the front nine tee boxes were all temporary, I would have played somewhere else. I was told they'll be open on Labor Day.
That being said, the rest of the course was in great shape, and the greens speed was fast and accurate. The back nine has many holes near the bay, making for some really nice pictures.
I'll play this course again; after Labor Day.
Like it
I have always liked Cove Cay. Have played here several times and it is probably in the best shape I have ever seen it. Aside from temporary tee boxes on the front nine, and the excruciating temperatures, a very enjoyable round.
