Palms at Marriott's Desert Springs Resort
About
Desert Springs Resort has a longstanding reputation as a luxury resort that offers something for everyone. There are two championship golf courses that sprawl across beautifully landscaped grounds covered with lush vegetation and sparkling lagoons, providing a scenic oasis amidst the desert surroundings. From nearly every hole at the resort, golfers can enjoy panoramic views of the Coachella Valley and Santa Rosa Mountains. Water is the most prominent feature of both golf courses. Between the two of them, over 35 acres of water features come into play. The Palms Course is the slightly more challenging layout of the two, but both are accessible to players of all skill levels. The layout features well guarded greens, thick rough and towering palm trees bordering the holes. It has a memorable finishing stretch that starts with an island par-3 on the 17th and finishes with a tricky dogleg par 4 with water all along the left side.

JW Marriott entry w/Palms decorated for Christmas Photo submitted by dpeagleton on 12/22/2012
Wide course
The recent aerated greens were really rough. They were like a tuck & roll seat. There was no consistency with the speed from green to green and the texture prevented reading the break. My score suffered by about 8 strokes.
Great resort style course, fun to play
Hard to find the pro-shop, but course was fun. Good wide open layout. Always hitting to a raised green and lots of green side bunkers throughout. Fun to play.
Palm Course
Great experience. Staff were very courteous and helpful. Course was in great shape and very challenging. Beverage cart came by several times during the round. Certainly well worth the green fee. Going back to play again.
Punched greens and bad fairways
I understand that golf courses need to aerate the greens. I also feel they have an obligation to let the golfer know the conditions are bad, especially since that have another course that was pristine. Had I only known about this, I could have moved to the other course and enjoyed myself. The starter did allow me to play the other course for no cost but it was 110 outside and the heat takes its toll on you. Why even use the punched course during the low season at all????
Fast Early Morning Round
Course was in very good shape. Had some minor fungus on 4 or 5 greens. Pace of play was just over 3 hours. Staff was great and really made the experience. I would recommend this course, great value mid Summer morning round
Don’t miss this value
I have been on four courses this week and Desert Springs, both the Palms and the Valley, are in the best shape by far. Greens are smooth and good speed. We played in a relaxed 3 hours and 15 minutes. Plenty of early tee times and a deal for $59.
Very quiet and peaceful
Much quieter and more peaceful than the near by Sun City Santa Rosa course, by far. The course is very well maintained, and the people who work here are awesome.
Palm
Rode the Blacks (6761/72.3/131) in 4H, 20M twilight with Avalon, Dave and Jesse. Very nice golfers to get matched up with. Seemed longer, course was busy, we waited most shots. Overcast, fairly calm, muggy and in the low 100s. Palm is definitely my preferred Marriott Desert Springs course. Better layout than the Valley IMO. First time here in almost 2 years. Bermuda tees were mostly lush and level, decently maintained with few divots. Bermuda fairways were mostly lush, nice to play from. Bermuda rough was mostly lush close to the fairways. Get away from the fairways and you could encounter hardpan to knee deep lost ball rough. Sand traps nicely raked with fluffy sand. Some could use more sand, but they were the best I have ever seen them here. Bermuda greens were firm and putted medium speed. Bumpy with some bad areas on many greens. Definitely worse than the Valley greens. Customer service is always very good here. Drink cart around several times, ample water stations every few holes on the course. Carts have good GPS. All grass driving range included in your fee is a +. Fun course layout in decent early summer condition. Recommended.
This course is worth playing.
I enjoyed playing this course and they allowed me to warm up without additional cost. Make sure to pay attention to the layout-if you don’t it may cost you a stoke on the way back. Great signage for each hole. Good course.
Bad pace of play
Love the course, staff and conditions. Only downfall is the pace of play on the palm course was brutal. Over 5 hours!
