Desert Springs Resort has a longstanding reputation as a luxury resort that offers something for everyone. There are two championship golf courses that sprawl across beautifully landscaped grounds covered with lush vegetation and sparkling lagoons, providing a scenic oasis amidst the desert surroundings. From nearly every hole at the resort, golfers can enjoy panoramic views of the Coachella Valley and Santa Rosa Mountains. Water is the most prominent feature of both golf courses. Between the two of them, over 35 acres of water features come into play. The Palms Course is the slightly more challenging layout of the two, but both are accessible to players of all skill levels. The layout features well guarded greens, thick rough and towering palm trees bordering the holes. It has a memorable finishing stretch that starts with an island par-3 on the 17th and finishes with a tricky dogleg par 4 with water all along the left side.

Beautiful course, too hard, no services

We've now played this course twice and had the same feeling both times. It's a very beautiful course, and it's in excellent condition. The greens are rock hard and brown, but the ball rolls - fast. We have a couple of problems with our experience playing this course: it's too hard, especially for intermediate women, and there are NO services. My wife is a decent 20-handicap player who won't play this course again. She's fine playing 5,200 yards normally, but not on this course with all its moguls and water. Forward tees somewhere between 4800 and 5000 yards would be a big improvement. Also, while we understand the limitations that Covid has placed on the Marriott, they don't offer basic amenities that other area courses in the price range do offer - there is no beverage cart, no water fountains, no water bottles provided, no ability to buy water at the turn, no water in the water fountains, no warning that water will not be available. This is unconscionable. The pro shop is often left unattended, making it difficult to check in, and one never knows if someone will come to the bag drop to pick up our bags upon arrival. So we ended up carrying our bags a very long way from bag drop to cart staging area.

Epic Course at the JW

We love the Palms course and all the water features. The property is beautiful.. They use a grass on the greens that dies in the cold so the greens are like cement and brown but playable. Also due to COVID they have reduced staff and no longer keep up the grass around the sand traps not a big deal but takes away from the lushness. All the fairways and the rest of the course are in perfect condition and green. The few staff on site are as always friendly and courteous.

Undulating course

This course wants you to hit down the middle. The fairways are very hilly so you have to plan your shots

The greens were great but again you have to study them because the are very hilly.

The last 9 has lots of water and not very forgiving

Course said we had no reservation

We were staying at the hotel as a guest. I decided to go down to the golf shop to see if we could get out earlier. They said they had no record of our reservation. They got us on the less popular course so we never had the opportunity to play the course

Tight course weaving through housing but in good shape overall.

Resort course a little tight . Difficult greens with many transitions. Course kept up well and staff very friendly. No bag drop service so if you don’t know where to check in down stairs your hauling you bag around up and down stairs

First time playing the palms at JW Marriott today and it was perfect. Fairways and rough and around the greens were in superb condition. Greens were pretty fast but not crazy fast. Typical resort style golf course, very fun course to play. Couldnt be more happy with a 71 despite a group ahead of playing super slow. Would come back.

-Wish they watered the greens a little more. Besides that perfect.

JW doesn't disappoint

The course was immaculate! While the greens were transitioning with the colder weather, they were still receptive and played very fast!

Played both courses

We played the palm course first. Very hilly and the greens were very tough. Lots of up and down. The last nine has lots of water. We finished and then went and played the other course. We enjoyed it a lot more. The fairways were not so hilly and even though the greens were touch they were easier to read. The staff was fantastic. Can’t believe we played 36 holes but sure enjoyed every one of them.

Windy weather

The Wheel

This is one of my favorite courses. It was especially challenging today in 20 to 30 mph winds but it was fun regardless. Fast greens

Loved it!

Course was in outstanding condition. No overseed on the greens so they are not the prettiest in the valley, but they were rolling about 12 on the stimp and putted great. I loved them!! Very friendly staff too! We will be back soon.
