Dealing with Drought
Always a great experience at Spruce Creek but the drought is having some deleterious effect on the course. The greens are still superb - fast and smooth. But grass on the tees, fairways and rough is getting thin and worn. It's obvious that a lot more watering is needed. On the plus side you can get a lot more roll out of each shot.
The staff is still friendly and helpful. I will be glad though when the pandemic scare is over so that bag/cart folks can fully do their jobs without separation restrictions.

Enjoyable
Every time I play here, I meet great people and enjoy my round. I am a snowbird and am always a single. I have always been paired with great folks.
The course is fun and you have to plan out a bit. The greens are quick enough but with very few undulations. Most puts are straighter than you think. The tee boxes are pretty much shot and in need of repair. Some fairways are good but many have thin/sandy spots that play more like waste areas than fairways.
Invest more TLC/maintenance in the fairways and tee boxes. Probably wouldn't cost that much. Could be a GREAT course with a bit more focus and work. The culture is great, don't change that.

Course Ranger would help
Overall, we would have enjoyed our round of golf at Spruce Creek, but we had a group of older men (who we caught on the 3rd hole) who would not let us play through! We were a twosome and had to wait on every tee after that. We were on vacation, so we didn't get upset until they didn't let us through at the turn. We ended up skipping a hole to get in front of them. A course ranger would have helped allow us to get through them.

Some areas of improvement are better tee boxes, very slow pace is not monitored .

course is great I play as much as they will let me.They have a rule about non members only allowed to play so many times.They,like several other courses, claim to be too short of carts to allowed single players to have a cart of their own.I refuse to do this while the virus is still going on.
Lessons on the course
We had a 230 tee time and right in front of us a man , maybe the pro, was giving on course playing lessons to a clear beginner. They slowed the pace of play to a crawl. We played the front nine in 3 hours. Horrible. Behind us a supposed member kept complaining about how slow we were playing.
Nice course but pace of play is miserable.

Spruce Creek review
I've played Spruce Creek many times. The staff is always friendly and courteous and the Golf pro is very professional. My only problem with the course is the condition of the greens. They are below average and roll differently from hole to hole. The greens are long over due for a turf replacement, like has been done in many other courses in the area

really nice course planes coming and going just over tree top height
showed up 10 minuets late the staff was understanding and let us go right out, course was in great shape with the greens the best in Daytona area can't wait to return
