Glen Abbey Golf Club
About
The 18-hole Glen Abbey Golf Club in Debary, FL is a semi-private golf course that opened in 1974. Designed by Dominic Palombo, Glen Abbey Golf Club measures 6661 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 137 and a 72.9 USGA rating. The course features 3 sets of tees for different skill levels. The greens are bermuda grass and the fairways are winter rye.
The Glen Abbey course winds through gently rolling landscapes of sylvan splendor and a 60-acre body of water known as “No-Name” Lake. There are no parallel fairways and all fairways are tree-lined. Water comes into play on eight holes. There are 80 strategically placed bunkers. Crepe myrtle, elderberry and oleander plantings are an aesthetic addition to existing magnolia, oak and towering pines which frame most fairways.

Best it has been in years
I haven't played this course in over 5 years mainly because it had been in such bad shape.
I read a few recent positive reviews and decided to give it a try. What a nice surprise. Fairways are good especially for summer time in Florida. Greens were some of best I've played anywhere recently. Smooth, fast with lots of undulation.
Only cons are not much rough just loose sand and spotty grass and the cart paths are pretty broken down.
Very happy with this course though. I will definitely be back.
Hidden Gem
This is the first time I have ever bothered to write a review, but I liked this course so much I felt I had to...now, first, the cons:
1. Cart paths are old and cracked and the drop offs can be ugly (but if there is one spot I don't care about excellence it would be there)
....ummm, that's about it.
This course is so well blended into the neighborhood you wouldn't even know it was there, yet you never feel like you are playing in someone's yard....phenomenal greens, some of the best in the area...solid fairways and forgiving tough...the layout is where it really shines to me...at least 2 yard Doyle's in each direction...water is in play (my nemesis) but not enough to be a constant dark shadow....I played by myself and only saw one other person out on the course all day....I am actually thinking about signing up for their tournament league, which plays every Thursday morning.
long time not played
greens good shape, fairways a bit rough but no worse than some, cart paths like going off road in great need of repair watch what you're your doing or bang!
Heartily Recommend this GEM
I was looking for a quick tee time and found this hidden gem - great price. I arrived 15 minutes before my tee time and was greeted by a friendly staff. I was able to get right out no waiting for 7am - the course was in fantastic condition. Fairways are perfect, rough in good shape as well, The greens were beautiful and had enough undulations to make for a good judge of the the putting surface - I hit 10 fairways and when I was not on the fairway the rough was a test but fair. 32 putts on the round - green speeds fairly quick but firm and fair - I definitely will play here again and again - give this one a try the owner has really put money into it and is well worth the drive and the cost
Fun course, great greens
Love this course! While the staff is a bit skeptical of players who book on Golf Now, don't let that deter you. It's a challenging well-maintained course. The greens are supper fast. Many holes play near water. Love it!
GETTING BETTER
USE TO BE A MEMEBER AT THIS COURSE MANY YEARS AGO IT HAS CHANGED OWNERS 3 TIMES SINCE THEN THE RYE IS DOWN SO GO PLAY THIS WELL LAID OUT COURSE .BUT GO WHILE THE RYE IS STILL MAKES IT LOOK NICE I GIVE THE GREENS 4 STARS
This course is a great layout!
The course was not ion very good shape but it is a great layout and has some nice holes. The staff was very friendly and the pace of play was good. Hopefully the will over seed for the winter and the course conditions will improve.
GREAT IMPROVEMENT
GREAT IMPROVEMENT GREENS ARE BEST IN AREA.WILL BE FANTASTIC WITH OVERSEEDING
Course is Improving
This course has gone from a beater to one with alittle more work could be very good. It has improved alot since i last played it about four months ago. For the price and if you are just starting out give it a try.
Nice course for the money!
Fairways need some work, greens are great. Course is in a lot better condition than the last time I played. I can see their efforts. I will definitely be back.
On the comeback
The improvements on the course over the last 18 months are noticeable and welcome. The greens are excellent and fast; we played winter rules in the fairways and allowed drops that took us onto grass. For the money, the round was well worth it. The layout is interesting and when the fairways are finished, this course will be a true destination.
Cant tell where the fairway starts and the rough ends.
The course was in rough condition to say the least, but the staff was very friendly. That being said I would not play here again just because I don't like playing out of the sand when in actuality I was in the fairway.
This course has a very friendly staff
Some of the greens could use some work. The rough is very rough. But all together a nice course with a friendly staff. Plenty of water coolers along the course.
Good course and getting better
I played Mayfair for the first time in June, 2013 and I've enjoyed playing there since then. The course does need some work but the Staff is working to improve the fairways and I was told the greens will be we worked on next year. Great value for the money.
Much Improved!
It had been a while (2 years?) since I had played here, and it is MUCH improved since then. The greens were in really good shape. Some of the fairways still need work, but they are apparently working to get the course back in shape.
Needs work
The Glen Abbey course needs some serious work. The greens are the only bright spot on the course. Tee boxes and fairways struggle to have any substantial growth which makes it difficult to entice future play. The course needs a budget infusion to help get to the next level.
For less than $1/hole you can't expect much and you don't get much.
There is no distinction between fairways and rough, it's all one large area of unkept grass and sand. Tee boxes were barely distinguishable from the unmowed grass around them. Greens are in ok shape considering the rest of the course. The looks of this course are as if someone had a large plot of land, carved out a few holes in it, cut the grass down to a certain level and just let it go. Nothing like hitting a nice drive down the middle of the fairway only to find it land in a stretch of sand and weeds in what I guess they consider grass. Paid $16 through golfnow and this is by far the greatest you get what you pay for course. Don't go in expecting anything and it'll be a surprise the one or two times you find nicely kept grass in the fairways. Won't be going back for a long time, also, no grass driving range, all mats.
Excellent Greens
The greens were in excellent shape rolling a little faster then average and true. The course has a nice layout really fun to play. The staff here are super friendly. If you play here you will not be disappointed.
Old school tree lined Florida style course
12:44 tee time. Similar to Cypresswood Golf & Country Club & Lake Orlando Golf Club. Generous tee shot landing areas. Fairways needing attention, sparsely grassed w/ several areas on every fairway having no grass @ all. Roughs are rough, making it difficult to find errant balls quickly. Accurate shot making is a must on this course. Best attribute of this course is it's greens. Proshop attendant bragged about them & she was right. Rolling fast & true and in great shape. Most picturesque hole is #11. Carts are gas powered w/ windshields & raincover in back.
