The Deltona Club holds the distinction of being ranked as one of the top 20 public golf courses in Florida. The club has roots that date back to the late 1950s. It is a remake of one of the state's earliest planned communities. Bobby Weed redesigned the golf course, improving its aesthetic appeal and giving it more playability. The course sprawls across rolling hills that provide dramatic elevation changes throughout. It is a far cry from the many flat public courses that exist throughout Florida. The natural contours of the terrain helped determine the strategic placement of the numerous bunkers, many of which were added during Weed's renovation. The Deltona Club's parkland layout has an interesting mix of holes with some that even have the feel of a links course.

First Time Playing

C’mon guys

I’ve seen this course online for a couple of years and it always comes up. I live in the Orlando area. I happen to be up in the area so I invited my buddy and we tried it out. I walked into the pro shop and I see a handwritten sign at the front line is closed. They’re aerating no big deal that they’re airing, just tell me online that the front line is closed. Don’t charge me full price to play at the same back nine twice. Have a marshal out there because the pace of play was atrocious. The course itself was in disrepair. Bunkers are horrible, crabgrass everywhere, the fairways played more like a rough. I could see if somebody with some coin in their pocket came in and really tidied up this property, it could be halfway decent, but I would never give them another dollar. Stay away.

* Additionally, somebody left a review five days ago, explaining how great of a condition the fairways and the tea boxes and the greens were in. That person clearly works for the golf course so don’t take most of these reviews as law. I was duped out of nearly $90 for two people to play for a repetitive nine in next to unplayable conditions.

I played on July 27 and they were just airating the back nine

I understand they’re working on the course but they should let people know that they have one of the nines closed and they should bring down the price a little bit during this time.

Outstanding facility

Course has improved a lot over the last year. Tee boxes are in great shape. Fairways are plush grass. Putting greens are perfect. No weeds or bare spots on the green. Staff are friendly and helpful. They are working on the course and making it better all the time. Sand traps still need work but that is being done now.

Undiscovered gem

I have played this course probably 30 times in the last 3 years. The conditions have never been better. The greens are in perfect condition now. The fairways are full of thick grass. The areas that were bare have new sod. The tee boxes are in great shape. The only area that is lacking is in the sand traps. They are working on them now. Best experience for a golfer.

Ask about where the pin locations are at check in…

…if you have not played here before or for a while. They had a combo blue/while flag on every hole. Not red (front), white (middle) and blue (back) flags. Red, White & Blue.

Cups are set in 1 1/2” from the green surface. Every pin was at a significant angle. Think the person that set them needs some ongoing .edu. Often times, there was no space between the bottom of the hole (dirt level) and where the cup, so the pin couldn’t get down / set far enough.

Hole 3, don’t hit your ball onto the island of 2’ weeds. You are not supposed to be there, however if you do, take an unplayable. Did see a worker with a weed wacker around the bathrooms between 5 and 6. Maybe the supervisor can send them over to get those weeds in that bunker.

If you miss the fairway, focus on something behind the direction of the ball. Lost 3 balls just off the fairway (laugh, you will see) however found plenty near where I last saw my ball. The ball goes right down to dirt. The U.S. Open is not this tough.

This was the pin on 18. You can see it from the clubhouse

Please enforce pace of play

The course conditions are improving, greens are decent. But there are horrid golfers out there who are also slow, and make the issue even worse by trying to get their practice sessions on the course by taking 2, 3, 4 shots because they top it or duff a shot. To their credit, the staff did try to enforce pace of play once, and the pace did improve, for about 3 holes. Then it got even slower than before. It needs to be enforced even more. And to the golfers out there, it’s fine if you’re not very good or you’re struggling, just please don’t use the course as your personal range season. That’s what the range is for, right?

This would be a very good review if it wasn’t for the ridiculous rough

The course is coming along great even the fairways are looking much better. The greens are fantastic everything except for the ridiculous rough that slows everything down and makes you lose golf balls and it’s for absolutely no reason.

Significantly Better Playing Conditions

I had stopped playing Deltona many months ago because of the deteriorating course conditions. But after seeing some recent positive reviews of the course, I convinced my playing buddies to give the course another try. And we were extremely pleased with what we found. The greens are in great shape, albeit slow. And the fairways are a picturesque lush green. Management is investing to continue to improve the course. For example, we saw teams working to lay down new fairway sod. We will definitely p,any there again…soon!

A shadown of its former self!

Not sure who is posting the recent reviews, but I was fooled into playing this course after avoiding it since 2022

First the good:

1) The greens were actually good. Slow... but good.

2) It is a great layout. If this course was in Orlando and had money, it would probably be the best course in Orlando.

Now the bad:

Where do I start? This course has gone completely downhill. It is a mere shadow of its former self. Like Red Tail, like Eagle Dunes, like Timacuan, and like Victoria Hills. All shadows of their former selves. I think the motto of these clubs these days is "put as little money in, take as much money out". This is not a $50 golf course. This is not a $15 golf course. There are tee boxes that are now just dirt. #7 back tee for example. They have completely closed many other tee boxes. #2 back tee. #9 back tee (see the photos). I wanted to post a video showing conditions, but unfortunately, I can't upload it.

I don't think the fairways or tee boxes have been mowed in at least 7-10 days. The rough doesn't look like it has been mowed in MONTHS. If you are off the fairway, there is maybe a 30% chance you find your ball. I am talking 5 feet off the fairway.

I would avoid this course. It is just not worth it. It is such a pity. Used to be such a great track.

Coming around beautifully

I had another fantastic round at Deltona. The conditions are improving every single time. The only criticism I have is the rough needs to be cut, especially around the fairway bunkers where there’s no need for rough. If they would cut it back, they’d be a lot less looking for balls.

Getting better

Most of the fairways have good grass, most tee boxes are good. The greens are healthy and full. The greens are pretty slow, if they cut them shorter and roll them they could be really good. The rough should be better kept so you don’t lose balls on good shots and slows down play. Overall enjoyable round.

Work shows

They continue to work on the course. Something you don't see at other courses.

Fairways sparse in places but it's ok to move the ball, we're not pros. Enjoy yourself.
