DeBary Golf & Country Club
About
DeBary Golf & Country Club, a Lloyd Clifton-designed course sits on hilly land. The layout is fascinating. No two holes feel similar. Only two holes have water, but there is significant sand. Dense woods of pine and evergreen border the fairways. The rolling fairways and natural layout give the golf course a Carolinas feel. The par 5s are all in the 500- to 550-yard range. The par 3s are all approximately the same distance, running 180 to 190 yards from the back tees, and 150 to 160 yards from the white tees. DeBary is one of the few Clifton golf courses that do not top out at more than 7,000 yards.

roped out
5of us 3som&2som showed up early enough to hit some balls.went to the starter who got us out a few minutes early, off we go ,was looking forward to the round because the course had always been in good shape, which it was this day also. That being said we had one complaint. Every hole was roped off so much that we had to walk so far we might as well have left the cart with the starter. I am 72 with a double miniscus tear on my right knee, needless to say I was dragging by the time we got done as were the other three that didn't have any injuries. there was no reason for all that rope , every fairway was fine not too wet or dry
improving but needs better course management
Conditions are improving although there are still several roped off fairways. The grass is coming in on the affected fairways. Greens are very good. Sandtraps are steep and difficult but well maintained. Here's the problem. There were 3 5somes in a row clogging up the front 9. One is bad enough but 3! DCC needs to do a better job of marshaling and break these groups up.
Course in rough shape
This course is typically the nicest public course within 15-20 miles of Debary. It’s not in good shape right now. Paid $29 so it’s ok for that price. Would be upset if I paid more. Layout is great. Hopefully they figure out what’s wrong soon. 2-3 holes are cart path only.
Unfortunately wasted our time
Unfortunately we wasted our time on this course. My girlfriend(beginner golfer) and I (Decent golfer), booked this trip weeks in advanced. Well no where did it mention the NCAA women’s teams would be practicing that morning. The Women’s teams were not the issue, the staffing and clubhouse tee times boss were the problem. For starts the kitchen was packed when we arrived to the point we almost didn’t get a meal before the driving range, then when arriving for our tee time we were pushed back 10 mins. No big deal. Well because of being pushed back we had to wait behind a 6 person group (which if you read reviews is normal here somehow). So after rushing our food (food staff was genuinely very nice) we had to play behind a 6 group. Well that stacked play up and we had people behind us breathing down our necks and pressuring us every single hit. We even skipped entire greens just to keep pace for the people behind us. The greens must have been going through construction as well because parts of them had boxes with string and full of dirt keeping players off sections. Then once Lunch time arrived the kitchen closed and we couldn’t get a meal going on to hole 10. Once again we caught up to another group which then led to 4 pairs of golfers all waiting in a line then 2 more pairs behind us.
After hearing so much good about this course we were extremely disappointed in how the timing for tee times were so stacked on top of each other, the clubhouse planning with the women’s event being there and to top it all off for first timers, there was no course layout or cards showing the hole and hazards. Hopefully they get those in check for everyone else but we probably won’t be back for a long time
In decline
It’s the first time we played this course in about two years and it has declined incredibly the fairways were bare. No grass on the fairway and bunkers were awfully steep and rough around the edges. Several fairways were roped off as if it were cart path only. They should have put down some winter rye.
Watch out, this course puts out Sixsomes
A buddy and I got a 1:54 tee time on a Friday afternoon. What a great way to end the work week. We would have about 4.5 hours to finish. Might cut it close but perfect weather so it was worth the risk. Cut to getting to first tee at 1:45 to find out they were a few minutes behind. No big deal until you find out the group in front of you is a group of 6!!! The starter and pro shop both know. And while waiting, a guy in the sixsome says “the pro shop told us to” and apologized to our group. The group of 6 were all friends and clearly knew each other. So they clearly wanted to be a six or the would have split 3 and 3. And to top it off ranger rolls through around 7 or 8 and asks how the pace, I say 6some? His response is “we are packed”. We were well over 2 hours at this point. No kidding you are allowing sixsomes on a Friday afternoon. Careful, starting close to 2:00 might only get you 13 holes. Greens rolled good although there are some areas of fungus especially on left side of 1. Maybe don’t put the pin over there so you have to putt through it. Course overall including the fairways are in worse shape than the have been in the past. I didn’t expect perfection for $39 but you would expect typical course etiquette. We won’t be back.
Greens fast, other than that I have nothing to say.
Slow pace
Pace of play super slow had a sixsome on the course.
We played on a Sunday afternoon and the price was reasonable for this time of year. They were busy and we had to wait some but it wasn’t terrible. We played in about four hours and 20 minutes. The course had some damage from the frost, so the fairway were brown, and the grains and tees lost some of their greenness, but the grains were quick and true. I thought the fairways had tight lies, but that could’ve been just from the frost.
The layout was nice and enjoyable. Lots of small sand traps with high lips so that was a challenge, but the sand was nice and soft.
I would play here again
Horrible Shape
This course should be ashamed of itself! No grass on the fairways to speak of. Basically all sand and mud. The only thing missing were the goats!
