Neshanic Valley Golf Course - Meadow/Lake Course

About
The 27-hole Neshanic Valley Golf Course is the flagship course of the Somerset County Park Commission system. The renowned design team of Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry created the course. Divided into three nines known as the Lake, Ridge, and Meadow, the course provides three different 18-hole combinations. Each par-36 nine has five different sets of tees. The Meadow/Lake Course features ample amounts of fescue along both the fairways and greens. If you don't hit straight off the tees, you may find yourself in some trouble. There are cavernous bunkers framing the greens, which are also subtly sloped for even more of a challenge. The golf course begins and ends with water holes but you'll find environmentally sensitive wetland areas that come into play throughout. In addition to the 27-hole course, Neshanic Valley also has a nine-hole, par-32 Academy Course.

Horrible stuff
I had one of the most disappointing and frustrating experiences at Neshanic Valley Golf Course. I booked through GolfNow Hot Deal and came early, especially since the course was practically empty due to the rain. However, the starter absolutely refused to let us go out early, saying because it was a Hot Deal we had to wait an entire hour until our scheduled time.
I’ve played at many courses with GolfNow deals and have never been treated this way. The way it was handled felt not only unreasonable, but also disrespectful — almost like we were being singled out or looked down on simply because we booked a Hot Deal. It left me with the impression of discrimination and poor customer service.
It’s unacceptable to treat paying customers like second-class players. GolfNow Hot Deals should not mean worse treatment. Very disappointed and will think twice before coming back here.
Great Track
By far one of the best public courses I’ve played. I don’t think there is another course at the same price $80 non resident, that is in better shape than this course was. The only ask I would make is that the traps be a little softer. Also provide players with some divot fill so that golfers can do their part in helping maintain the conditions. Otherwise, 10/10 and cannot wait to get back out there. To add, finished my round which was a foursome in 3:45 without having to wait on anyone or vice versa.
Perfection
This may be the nicest course I've played all season. Everything was close to immaculate. Just wish it were closer.
Solid choice
Field and the greens are in a tip top shape. Good pace of play. Moderate degree of difficulties but very enjoyable. Green fee is a little higher vs. other comparable public courses.in the area but well worth it. Can’t wait to come back and play again.
Great Course
Greens were slower than usual.
Ball marks and divot were not being repaired.
These are my only complaints. i am not a county member but i play here 3-4 times annually. i encouraged my son to join when he moved to Somerset Co and he is glad he did.
Slow play
Played behind an extremely slow group with a player who actually was the man in charge of the course for years! Ridiculous! Guys hit into us 2x...within 10 feet.
Great Venue
Overall, this was an outstanding experience. The only reasons for only 4 stars was the greens were long and slow but I would attribute that to not cutting due to extreme heat and dryness. The ranger seemed overly concerned with pace of play although the group behind was a hole back throughout the round.
Late July 2025 - great round in the HEAT
We played the Meadows-Ridge layout and it was a lot of fun. First the good stuff - the layout is always great on all 3 of the 9 holes. The course was in really good shape. They don't provide dirt for replacing divots so there are some areas with a lot of divots in the fairways and run off areas. Greens are always fun and definitely have break in them. They were super fast but fast enough, while at the same time, putting uphill required an extra punch.
Some of the negatives - despite all groups taking carts, there was some serious pace of play issues. We played Meadows in less than 2 hours. Ridge took 2 hours 25 minutes. The culprit was 2 groups ahead of us and without a ranger pushing people, it was slow.
It was a scorcher with a heat index above 100 degrees. The cart girl was not consistently coming through and there's ZERO water on the course. This makes golf in heat very difficult. Sometimes it's just nice to have water on the course to be able to soak your towel in to put on your head and neck.
Overall, a great course with good conditions. It just needs to better for the golfers who need water. Please make the pace of play better! it's too good of a track to have this be the problem.
Enjoyable round of golf
The course was overall in very good condition. My only gripe would be that the greens were slow and inconsistent, we could never get a good feel for them. We played the Ridge & Meadow nine’s. I really like the course, the holes offer a nice challenge with several “risk/reward” options.
The staff were all very friendly. We teed off in the afternoon so the 19th hole was closed by the time we finished at 7:00 pm. I’d recommend the Riverside Inn which is only a few minutes away.
