The Architects Golf Club
About
The Architects Golf Club is a unique layout that honors legendary course designers including Donald Ross, A.W. Tillinghast, and Alistair Mackenzie. Each hole is named after a famous designer, beginning with Old Tom Morris. The opening par 5 pays homage to St. Andrews' designer through the use of the existing features as hazards such as the rock wall and the sloping hillside that the green is deftly carved into. One of the most memorable holes is the 13th, another par 5 that will give you a taste of what it's like to play Augusta. This Alistair Mackenzie-inspired hole offers many risks and rewards. Golfers will face fairways bunkers and a pond on the left and then a creek that runs diagonally in front of the triple-tiered green. Position is the key to maneuvering this tough hole.

Great Course
Very nice layout, spacing of tee times was 9 minutes and we were never rushed or waiting the entire 18 holes. Course can be challenging especially on the back 9 as some of the par 4s are long, over 425 yards. would play more often except the price is a little steep at 89-99$ a round.
More than a round of golf
This was an experience more than just a round of golf. It was like a journey when all was said and done. Each hole is a different style so it feels like each one is a new round with it's own challenges. My friend bailed on me at the last minute so I ended up playing solo on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The staff was more than understanding given the weather that day. Obviously not crowded and though you'd think the conditions would suffer, absolutely not! The fairways were in great shape still and the sand (which I experienced a lot) was also very playable. Green were being aerated which wouldn't have kept me from playing it but a little mention would've been nice. I got a deal on golf now, but would actually consider paying the $110. It was that nice - on a bad weather day. Can't imagine what it would be like on summer morning.
My gripe which is why I can't give it a 5 star is the lack of signage or yard markings. I saw a few on the cart path, but that was it. And there was no map of each hole either at the tee box or on the scorecard. More than a couple times, I had to drive ahead to find the flag or what was behind a hill. There was a blind water shot on 9 too which I hit a nice shot, only to find that it went in to the water.
Fun & Challenging Round
The golf course is a fun layout that requires use of every club in the bag. Conditions were fair but it was still early season.
Greens and sand traps were in bad shape
A lot of the sand traps were unplayable greens were aerated and not in great shape they really have to redo the sand traps or make them not playable
Great course, almost perfect
Had a great round on 4/23/16. Course was a little damp from the morning rain, but dried quickly. Fairways, rough, and tee boxes were all above average. The bunkers were excellent despite the recent rain. A few puddles, but sand was otherwise cooperative. The greens were the only part that were a little disappointing. 2 of the larger greens had been aerated, and the rest were in need of some care. It is more than likely just because it is early in the season and odd weather makes for odd growth, but the ball hopped around quite a bit on several of the greens. Overall, it wasn't bad enough to really say I had a bad experience. I will definitely be playing here again. I may be Able to justify the $100+ weekend fee, but only if conditions were absolutely flawless. Otherwise, this is a great deal for mid-$60's on GN. Beautiful facility, and a truly fun layout.
Loved to play here all the time
Had an excellent round.. Beautiful weather yesterday and everything went well . Look forward to going there again.. worth the drive from Flanders.
Another Beautiful Round at the 'tects
What can I say - this place keeps me coming back. This is the 5th time I've played it this year already (not a member either) and it's always in prime condition, regardless of season. They will be aerating in the next few days, but they use small tine holes so the greens will still be in very good shape. Tee to green, this course plays incredibly fair with generous fairways and multiple tee locations.
Great Track with Variety
Definitely worth teeing it up. This course is designed by Stephen Kay and Ron Whiiten Golf Digest Architecture Editor. The course is designed replicating styles of the architects from 1895-1955 like Ross, Wilson, Flynn, Mckenzie etc.... So no two holes are alike. I especially like the par 5 13th which is similar to 13 at Augusta. The course is always in good to great shape and the greens roll true and fast. Tees fairways in greens all in very good shape. Rough was a little thin and places but it was still March. The bunkers are the weakness of the course. They drain poorly and the sand is thin. The facility used to be a country club for a day experience with range balls included but that is not the case anymore. Better to book online because the course doesn't offer rates as goo as GN. Women in the pro shop told someone they would get a better deal if they booked online. The rate she could offer was $30 higher. All in all this is a great layout and always in good shape. They cater to members as you would expect and can be a little standoffish to outsiders. Pace of play on the day we played was real bad on the backside with a foursome holding up the entire golf course. Four holes open in front of them and not a ranger in sight. Back nine took 2:45 to play.
Architects
I think the best public course in New Jersey. Greens were not the best I've seen them and fescew was non existent. Much easier now than in June. Got it for 13 bucks. Easily with 4 times the price. Each hole designed like other holes by famous designers. 13 is similar to par 5 13th hole in Augusta. Course is fun and reachable par 5's if you drive 250 plus yards
Cold but good times...
With the weather being nothing near consistent and not knowing what the following day will bring it wound up being wonderful. Architects is one of my favorite courses in NJ so although the weather was somewhat cold and breezy the appeal and feeling from the course made up for that. Few holes where you are hitting blind shots over hills so make sure you stay straight down the fairways or it will be a challenge finding your ball. Would play this course any day of the week!
this course has great features
Course should post condition of course and whether it is cart path only, whether greens are being aerated and what repairs are going on.
Wide Fairways
Great condition for this time of year. Golf cart only golf, so try not to drift it wide, you will have a nice walk. Course is open and wide. Penalties for out of bound shots are at a rare minimum. Greens were soft, and after late afternoon foot traffic, your ball would bounce more then you would like during your putts. Overall, a awesome course in this area! I will play here again and again.
Enjoyable Round...A Little Pricy
The course was in great shape for early spring play. Our threesome moved a a good pace. Pricy play even at Hot Deals.
Great hole designs
I like this course-it's diversified and interesting. Normally very good condition, but course today was just getting over the winter blues. Have played many times., and will continue to do so. Course fees above average for 10 miles radius, but Golf Now saved the day.
Highly recommend
The course layout is extraordinary. I thoroughly enjoyed this course even though it was very early in the season and grass conditions were not ideal.
Good for early season rate
Open early this year. Green are slow and course is wet but they are open. Fun course to play.
Played a NJ course in February!
Great course. Weather was high 50 degrees with some wind. Course was in great shape for still being winter. Staff was great!. Played 18 in 4 1.2 hours using cart path only and the course was full so the starter/marhsal kept things moving very well.
