The Architects Golf Club
About
The Architects Golf Club is a unique layout that honors legendary course designers including Donald Ross, A.W. Tillinghast, and Alistair Mackenzie. Each hole is named after a famous designer, beginning with Old Tom Morris. The opening par 5 pays homage to St. Andrews' designer through the use of the existing features as hazards such as the rock wall and the sloping hillside that the green is deftly carved into. One of the most memorable holes is the 13th, another par 5 that will give you a taste of what it's like to play Augusta. This Alistair Mackenzie-inspired hole offers many risks and rewards. Golfers will face fairways bunkers and a pond on the left and then a creek that runs diagonally in front of the triple-tiered green. Position is the key to maneuvering this tough hole.

Great winter golf!
Wonderful to still be playing golf in late December!
So happy to find that the Architects stays open and is still in great condition.
Great day of golf
Really enjoyed playing this course. Very interesting with the design elements from so many designers.
Golf in NJ on Christmas Eve
Greens were good considering we are in late December.
Cheers!
Many rules
They're not very accommodating at this golf course. Have a 12 o'clock tee time and we got there at 10:40 and they said we can get out till 12 o'clock because we had a special rate. That is fine but as we stood there for an hour not one group went out seems in the month of December they would do their best to accommodate people and be happy that they're out playing the golf course. They did say they would let us out early if we wanted to pay the $40 difference for the earlier tee time , what sports.
The most important part was we had a gentleman playing with who 73 years old and had had a knee replacement and they told us that it was cartpath only, wish that was put on the website so we could've gone elsewhere. They would not even give him a handicap flag and make an exception.
Greens are very fuzzy and inconsistent and overall just not a great experience.
There are many great deals this time of year on other golf courses in the area and I would suggest that you go elsewhere.
What happened to "Architects"?
As a former employee of Architects, I was shocked to see how the overall quality of this great tract has deteriorated in just a few years. When I worked there, there was a ranger on both the front nine and back nine on weekends, sadly, when we played on a Sunday, there was no ranger on the course, we waited on every shot sine the first hole. They no longer give complimentary warm up balls and the range mats were old and in disrepair. The greens were shaggy and very slow, the sand traps had NO sand in them, ( which makes getting your wedge under the ball virtually impossible) although I will say the fairways for the most part were in good shape! I don't know the reason for the downturn, perhaps it's a money thing, but Architects, which still is a great layout and golf environment, is in need of some TLC.
Great Course
We enjoyed our round on this course.
It doesn't get boring, the holes offer a huge variety.
still a good course
Amazed at how poor condition the sand traps were in. The course used to be impeccable.
Nice!!
On a beautiful autumn day I played the front nine in less than 1 hour . For some unknown reason there was no one playing in front of me.
Only in the back nine e I encountered other players and I took the time observe the gorgeous scenery and the last foliage on this sunny afternoon.
I will be looking forward to play many times in the future.
Great course!!
First time played.
Played for the first time the last week of October. It was really windy and it rained heavy the day before therefore it was cart path only golf and some of the fairways were in the process of being airraided but it was still an excellent experience. The course is well maintained and in great shape with a very friendly staff. Booked through GolfNow so the price was right as well. Overall it's a Must play for your golf resume!! One hour 20 minute drive and we were not disappointed. Definitely play again in the future.
Top Public Golf
Been playing here occasionally for the last 7 or 8 years as it is an hour plus drive.
One of the best public access courses in New Jersey.
In beautiful condition.
Homage to all the golf architects of early 20th Century.
One Complaint: The wedding party from a wedding part literally stood on ninth green for 10 minutes as we approached. Messed up our ninth and tenth holes completely. Guys, this can't be allowed!
Otherwise, Go!Play!
Free bll mark too;s
Very disappointed in the condition of the greens. They must have had significant play with the good weather on Wednesday and Thursday leaving the greens covered in old ball marks. Why don't they charge $115 and give each player a free repair tool. Fixed at least 6 marks on each green. Won't go back and won't recommend course to and friends.
Just OK
Pulling up to the tiny clubhouse, i admit i was a bit suprised. In fact i thought we too a wrong turn and ended up at the local muni course. Not so. We were indeed at the famous 'Architects' course which ive wanted to play for years considering the fanfare and novelty. Plus, i was able to score a great deal on GolfNow!
Course is very playable. Not tight but long. Sand and structure features are nice. Im a 18 and only lost 1 ball in the drink which is unusual for my spastic game.
And thats where it ends. This is a course to play once if you can score a deal. Never in my lifetime would i pay the ridiculous $100+ rates they advertise for primetime. This place will quickly become another Center Valley if they keep prices this high. Id recommend keeping the rates reasonable, bring in repeat customers, and not be so full of yourselves.m
Good variety of holes and excellent condition
I think this course is on par with Neshanic Valley and Heron Glen in terms of layout and course conditions. But I prefer this course for the variety of holes and staff friendliness.
Enjoyable to play
This course is always in good shape. I play here 2 to 3 times a year. Staff is friendly and helpful, but pace of play could be better.
Fun, challenging and very playable for all levels
I always enjoy playing Architects because I can come out as a single, and I've always been paired up with very nice people. The staff is always friendly and accommodating, and the course conditions are very good and consistent. What else do you need? I highly recommend playing Architects and you'll be guaranteed a fun and very enjoyable golf experience.
Great Value - beautiful course
Played @ 1 pm - course was in very nice shape - unfortunately we got stuck behind 2 foursomes that had no clue and thought they were pros -5 hr round - should have been 4 . Otherwise no complaints
Do not play until next year
Over the past 10 years our group always looks forward to playing this course. It was a major surprise to find out how Bad Shape this is in. We read recent reviews which did not show the following:
1-Although we played late in the day-2 PM, Thirteen (13) Sand traps still had standing water in them. Others traps were like concrete. 2-All Tee boxes were badly damaged. 3-Starter let a fivesome out-held up play. 4-Someone damaged the markers by removing digits on the yardage markers. 5-Aerated a month ago-Greens were still not filled-in.
fun course
love this course...always in good condition...very fair...you play well you can score...play badly ...not so much
Great course and fun to play
So, yes, the greens were aerated and no one mentioned it to us, however, they weren't that bad and putted pretty true. A few greens were bumpy, but they should be good to go in a few weeks. The course was in great shape and it's pretty neat to see the change in course design through the 18 holes. The staff was amazing. I can't wait to play here again.
