The Architects Golf Club
About
The Architects Golf Club is a unique layout that honors legendary course designers including Donald Ross, A.W. Tillinghast, and Alistair Mackenzie. Each hole is named after a famous designer, beginning with Old Tom Morris. The opening par 5 pays homage to St. Andrews' designer through the use of the existing features as hazards such as the rock wall and the sloping hillside that the green is deftly carved into. One of the most memorable holes is the 13th, another par 5 that will give you a taste of what it's like to play Augusta. This Alistair Mackenzie-inspired hole offers many risks and rewards. Golfers will face fairways bunkers and a pond on the left and then a creek that runs diagonally in front of the triple-tiered green. Position is the key to maneuvering this tough hole.

Great time
Went out with a myself and 3 friends, overall had a fantastic time. Found a deal on Golf Now that couldn't be passed up. Staff was incredibly friendly and the course was in great shape. Only complaint about the course was that NOBODY fixes their divots or ball marks, but that is not the fault of the course. The greens were pretty quick and reading them was more challenging than I was expecting. Bunkers were also on good shape. We enjoyed the course so much we played 36 holes that day!
I would recommed this course to anyone.
Oh one big I would recommend. They make a small booklet that explains each hole and how to play it. It is a great help, and has some cool facts about the course. We used it the 2nd round and it helped immensely!
Very good golf course.
Pace of play very slow butt trembly enjoyable golf course!
W.O.W.!
Cannot say enough good things about this place. Flat tees, lush fairways, rough that is fair, fast true greens, good pace of play (4:20 round. got stuck behind a foursome with two hacks). Hospitality and friendliness was top notch. Only minor issue was the green on a 120 Yd Par three that was pretty beat up. This late in the year after 10000 wedges shots, it's understandable. Can't wait to make that road trip again.
Fine round with one exception
Went out as a single with 3 other people and had a decent foursome with similar skill levels. From tee to green, course was in great shape but, greens were all chopped up which led to plenty of complaints and hopping putts. Additionally, one of the guys in my group hit is ball in the rough on one hole and member of maintenance crew ran over his ball and cut it in half, he was not happy. Given those items, course to me is always fun and long on the back nine.
Beautiful course!
This is my new 2nd favorite course I've ever played, second only to Ko'olau Golf Club in Kauai (it's tough to best Hawaii in north Jersey). The course was in great condition: tee boxes weren't overly chunked up; fairway divots were mostly replaced; bunkers were always raked. The greens were a bit bumpy, but they still rolled true, and some of the bunkers were so packed down, I ended up having to pick a greenside sand shot clean off the deck. Other than that, it's all positive about this course.
The course had great variety, alternating between narrow, wood-lined tee boxes/fairways, where you had to play a 5 wood or iron off the tee to make sure you stayed in play, and vast, welcoming fairways that let you swing away with little fear of getting in trouble. The bunkers and trees are thoughtfully placed to reward good shots, and make you work hard on mishits.
For some reason I had considerable trouble reading these greens; maybe it was the aforementioned bumpiness that was distracting me? Some putts I thought would break went arrow straight, while others I thought had no movement at all ended up breaking 2-3 feet. I could've just had an off day though...
Had high expectations based upon ratings- disappointed though
Had high expectations based upon all the reviews and the concept of the course. However if you can hit a long ball the course wasn't anything special. Not a thinking mans course wide open fairways with a lot of cross over golfers from one fairway to the next. Not worth the trip from eastern NJ.
Still a gem
Course is always in great condition. Pace was decent and staff is excellent. My only suggestion is they really really need to monitor hole #2..... And in fact most of the par 3s there's way to many ball marks.... So either the Rangers have to do better job of making people repair their ball marks or the greens keeper has to fix the greens..... Its to good of a course to have the greens beat up like that.
The place for variety.
Excellent course. Reminds me of Royal Links in Vegas with holes from various venues for The Open. Architects is great place, well kept, decent price.
Beautiful course, visually awesome, friendly staff
Took a ride up to North Jersey to play this course we have heard so much about. Pulling into the driveway my son and I were quite impressed with the beautiful "castle-like" clubhouse. We immediately realized this was an upscale venue. We managed to obtain a great rate of $40.00 for a 7:56 tee time on Golf Now. The pro was quite friendly and was had a short conversation with him before we teed off. The bag boys were friendly as well and asked my son and I if we would mind playing with a single, a personable young man who worked at the club. We agreed to play with him, and it was a very nice round of golf. The course is very well maintained and although difficult, still pretty fair to the average player. The course reminded us of many we have played in Myrtle Beach, with numerous sand traps surrounded by tall fescue grass. There are not many trees on the course, but there are many fairway bunkers, as well as a large amount of bunkers surrounded many of the greens. The greens were in nice shape and not overly fast. The rough, although fairly short, proved to be a bit testy to get out of. All of the tee boxes and fairways were well maintained and in nice condition. The landscaping of the course coupled with beautiful mountain views made for a visually awesome golf experience. At the ninth green there was an outdoor grilling area under a tent with burgers, dogs, beer, and soda for sale. This was nice for our pace of play as we did not have to venture all the way into the clubhouse for a bite to eat while playing. The clubhouse was quite elegant, with a nice restaurant and there was a beautiful connected outdoor tented area that we learned does many weddings over the summer months. The only issue I had with the course was the fact they only provides water jugs on two holes. But all in all, for the price we paid it was a very nice course and a course which we will certainly return to.
Nice Course Good Views
It is a nice course that provides a look at the history of the game. Every hole has the styling of a particular architect. Yet the course seems to come together well. Course plays long especially the concluding five holes with 14, 15 and 16 capable of stretching to nearly 500 yds. Greens later in the day show stress from ballparks but overall good conditioning. A yardage is help as it not defines the hole, provides distances, but also gives a little information on the architecture. A nice value. Bring bug spray gnats are annoying
Good Course for all Skill Levels
Our foursomes had a golfer playing each tee - Blacks (scratch golfer) to Reds (Lady), and in between (senior, junior). Play moved along nice and the course was laid out for all skill levels. It was a hot August day so conditions were not the best, but nice. Lots of interesting design features copied from various architects - it was much better than those courses that try to recreate holes. Reload factor was low - we had one player who could hit it anywhere and we (almost) always found it.
Interesting layout
I found each hole intriguing. Nice variety on each whole, pretty sure I used every club in my bag. Practice facility with grass driving rang is a real plus. Course is well maintained with the exception of ball marks on the greens that had not been repaired. I can never understand why people can't repair their ball marks. Only other issue I had was finding distance markers. I did not have my laser and often found myself searching for markers.
Beautiful place
We really enjoy Architects. Always in good condition. Have met very nice players. Only short coming is lack of proper on-course restroom. Other than that, the facility is perfect.
Great Day
Course is long and in excellent condition looking forward to next time
nice golf experience
have played the course about 5 times - very pretty and challenging - it always seems to play longer then the yardage and it was very wet from previous days rain so i assume it doesn't drain well - course has always been in excellent shape though the greens this time were not in as good a shape as the past - many putts did not roll smoothly - pin placement can be unfair as the greens are large and undulating and today the pin was on the edge of most ledges
Disappointing Day
Course in good condition except for the ball marks all over the greens. It was cart path only (not fun) because cart paths are not near the fairways and the fairways are very wide. Gnats. Food was just ok
Slow pace of play
Waited on every single shot. Way too slow. Almost 3 hours for 9 holes. I left after playing 9 holes, so not sure if it was ad on the back as well. Staff in pro shop was eating as I walked in to pay. Not a good experience.
Great Potential
Very interesting layout, great visuals. Overall very pleased with this course. The downside here is the outrageous amount of ball marks on the greens. This is an upscale facility and so that was a disappointment. Just goes to show how rude and clueless so many players are these days. One other note on possible improvement is the quality of bunker sand. I will certainly play again.
This is a Bucket List Golf Course.
Conditions were Ok. Fairways were in good shape, the greens were pretty beat up' a lot of pock marks. Over all Great Place to play.
