The Architects Golf Club
About
The Architects Golf Club is a unique layout that honors legendary course designers including Donald Ross, A.W. Tillinghast, and Alistair Mackenzie. Each hole is named after a famous designer, beginning with Old Tom Morris. The opening par 5 pays homage to St. Andrews' designer through the use of the existing features as hazards such as the rock wall and the sloping hillside that the green is deftly carved into. One of the most memorable holes is the 13th, another par 5 that will give you a taste of what it's like to play Augusta. This Alistair Mackenzie-inspired hole offers many risks and rewards. Golfers will face fairways bunkers and a pond on the left and then a creek that runs diagonally in front of the triple-tiered green. Position is the key to maneuvering this tough hole.

1st hole Photo submitted by kobeguy2 on 11/17/2012
Overall, course was in great shape.
Course has character with varied and challenging holes. Greens had just been aerated, but still played remarkable close to normal. All in, a very enjoyable round with no notable downsides.
one of my favorite courses
The front nine was being aerated, so I played the back nine twice. This wasn't a bad thing as I like the back nine a bit more than the front (longer and more challenging), and the pace of play was exceptional as the aeration kept a lot of people away. I've played here a number of times and always have a great time. The fairway's are wide, so you can let loose with your driver.
Play it couple times a year.
Should have called before heading there this last time as they were in the middle of core airation and sanding so played only seven holes, then skipped back to play five of them over again. Too long a drive to get there so played. Very lush, rough is thick so keep it in the fairway. Plays long, not a lot of roll when it is running on the wet side. Replace divots folks, they will grow back here. Like the big greens, bring your rangefinder, can hit four different shot in depending on pin placement.
Nice challenging course
Played 8/19/13 and unfortunately they were aerating the front nine greens forcing us to play the back 9 twice. We lucked out and weren't playing behind slow pokes. The course is challenging but doable if you are a bogey golfer. Staff is friendly we paid $49 for the round I believe it's $69 otherwise
Beautiful course
This course is awesome. The fairways are in good shape, the greens are well kept. My only complaint is that they kinda let the grass go a little too long on the sides. If you don't hit the fairway (which I barely do) than its hard to have a clean second shot and it's even harder to find your ball.
the layout is great
its one great golf course in good cond. because of all the rain i got no roll in fairways so it made for long shots and long day from cart paths only riding
Slowest round this year
One of my favorite course to play.
Shot my lowest round here 71
We got stuck behind some hacks
The round took 5:30 hours
Never seen the course this slow
love this course
Course was in great shape. everything was well manicured and the bunkers were in excellent condition. we ended up playing as a twosome in 4 hours and 15 minutes or so which is a pretty nice pace for this place on a sunday afternoon. ive had some rounds that last more like 445, but perhaps they have addressed the pace of play issue. we did see some rangers on the course. If you can get a discounted rate this place is a steal, but even at full price it is worth playing every once in a while.
Excellent Course
Course was in excellent shape. Very well taken care of. Certainly challenging. Played even longer than it said. Thinking man's course as well. Was well worth the drive for me to go and see it. Interesting set up. Love the idea of holes that are designed elsewhere. Had a very good time here.
Great Design/maintinence
It poured right up to our tee-time, course was still in great shape except for some minor pooling in the bunkers. I will definitely be back.
very enjoyable
Good course, easy to get to, nice staff and well maintained.
Interesting Mix of Holes
Great Value, especially for seniors. Very interesting to see different design features on each hole. Great pace of play and friendly staff
Great Course!
course was in great shape and is challenging but at the same time easily playable. was disapointed a bit by how much of a difference the putting green speed was to the actual greens (practice green a lot faster). also at this price they could give you a few more range balls. staff is extremely nice and this is a great place to play...looking forward to my next round there! a must play for anyone in nj
Great course - far drive from NYC though
Played on a HOT Monday afternoon. Course was in great shape despite the heat and lack of rain we had. Not a lot of shade on course as one would imagine for a links style course. Very well designed - traps and fescue strategically placed, greens rolling nicely. Would definitely play it again.
Not worth the money
Course was in fair condition given the amount of play. Cart wheel was broken. We got a replacement after 3rd hole and the guy said it was the third cart returned that day for repairs. He didnt seem to care. Tee of was early AM and no water on the course until 11:00am, no cart girl until 11:30am. Had to play 13th hole with the sprinkler system on the green while we were putting, no one around to shut it off. Pace of play was good.
Great layout, like playing 18 different courses.
This course is challenging but very playable. It provides a glimpse into the styles of the greatest course architects of the world. The course, staff, and pace of play made it an exceptional round.
Great
Great course and great staff. Will recommend to others.
Good Course
I booked this round because I got a deal on GOLFNOW not sure if I would pay the full rate to play here. Conditions are above average all around just a little out of the way to have such high rates. If you live close it is probably one of the best courses around.
Great Rounds
Architects is one of the best overall public course values in North NJ. It is always in great condition, staff is very helpful and pleasant .. no hassles with anything. Practice range, electric carts, and very scenic. Enjoyed very much the few rounds I played there.
The course is enjoyable and has great vistas
I play this course when the rates are reduced .
They have done a great job with there mobile app
And if you keep a watch on it you can get rates reduced as
much as 50% off and if they did this more often
They would get more play.
